This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

I agree. What the actual f*ck is going on?
So Mrs. "Don't-Call-Me-Again" is the reason why Pennsylvania got nuked to begin with? Well, she's looking more like a Mrs. Hypocrite now. Though now MJ's little spiel about responsibility might have a completely different context. Maybe Peter saves MJ, but MJ is all "how dare you save me after what I just did"? Well, fine. I guess how MJ and Paul's kids came to be will come soon enough, but what about everyone hating on Peter? Let me guess, everyone's mad at Peter because he did a bad thing to save MJ and he just lies and takes the heat for MJ over Pennsylvania?
Now I really want someone to beat up that Rabin jerk. Hell, maybe another author can come in and get Rabin shot so we won't have to deal with him again.

Better under a bus than off a bridge.
We all know this is gonna fail. There's no way this will turn people against MJ, and I don't know why they're trying.
One Strip! One Strip! That’s because when they tried to bridge MJ the fans practically rioted. Let’s be clear: they’ve tried it before. Throwing up arbitrary bullshit to keep Peter and MJ apart and trying to make her unlikable is the compromise where fans grumble but the tease that maybe Peter and MJ will get back together keeps people coming back.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI wish we had more information on why this one character has evidently been a Single-Issue Wonk for the suits for over twenty years, I really do.
If the writers keep using the Derailing Love Interests trope like this, Peter may end up with his own group of seven evil exes.
And unlike Peter's last big love interest, MJ is just too popular to get rid of.
The fact that he actually married her and they were in a committed relationship for years doesn't help.
Gwen had her fans, but that wasn't enough to prevent her death. MJ on the other hand, is just too big.
One Strip! One Strip! If they did that, then they'd have to revive original Gwen Stacy, since the other reason she died was because they didn't want Peter to be married back then either.
Hell, MJ's current situation, with the writers constantly finding ways to keep her and Peter apart arguably renders Gwen's death even more pointless.
That being said, I almost agree with the idea of eliminating romance from Spider-Man. If you can't handle it well, (or seem determined to destroy it), maybe don't do it until you are ready to handle it.
One Strip! One Strip!I'd stick to Spider-Man having adventures with Jameson and his sister if we go down the no romance route for a while.
But Marvel won't do it because paradoxically, the romance in Spidey no matter how much bait it is, is still a large draw.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Extra details from the spoilers
No doubt Paul created the powers MJ is using, he's apparently a super scientist, a genius like Peter. Paul also knows that Peter is Spider-Man, and has known since the run began. It is Paul that creates the teleporter that he insists Peter use to return to the past, but Peter wants to send MJ back to their world, MJ makes the decision for Peter and sends him back
So MJ and Paul are kind of both responsible for the crater, seeing as Paul develops the tech and MJ makes the choice to return Peter to the present

So judging from early spoilers for ASM#22...
The giant crater in Pennsylvania we glimpsed at the start of the run? It happens at the end of this issue, and it wasn't Peter's fault...it was M Js. Basically the Mayan Death God intended to kill Peter and see a ceremony through to completion that would bring about the apocalypse. Peter and MJ are rescued by Paul, who is actually a whiz at creating technology using totems that fashions them into weapons. He gives them the ability to transport home, but the God latches onto Peter and MJ triggers the teleporter, the God is split in half and explodes, creating what we saw with the crater, Peter returns to the present while MJ is trapped in the future with Paul
So it does look like my theory about Paul ceasing to exist if the bad future is averted may come to pass.
