This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

I mean sure Slott has his own flaws as a writer but he WAS one of the better writers during BND.
That's why he was able to take over full time as Spider-Man's head writer for about 10 years. Regardless of what you think of the man, and believe me, I have problems with his style he did take Spidey out of the BND slump.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Slott also wrote that 60th anniversary story where Peter and MJ were in their golden years together, although the running joke of the story was nobody could confirm they were husband and wife
I think that was written as a way of saying to readers "we can put these characters through all sorts of blenders, but in some far flung future it all works out and they live happily ever after"
Slott has said on twitter that the editors are the thing keeping the characters apart
I wouldn’t be surprised if he was personally a fan of the pairing but couldn’t get permission to get them back together
It’s something Slott’s run has in common with Spencer’s. They both bring the characters almost right up to the line.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWith Marvel's love of enforcing MCU synergy, I'm surprised they haven't gone back to championing the pairing just because it's the one in the Tom Holland films.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonThe synergy is always so weirdly half-assed. Blatant enough to be intrusive but seldom capturing what makes the copied material endearing
Like the Avengers Assemble “make it the movies!” cartoon. Which stubbornly refused to actually grow as the movies did.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI like how that show introduced Ant-Man in season 1 as a composite of Hank and Scott but after the film came out, they reintroduced the character to being identical to the film with Hank as an old guy and Hope there too
Right down to releasing an animated introduction short that copies the backyard shrunken training scene shot for shot
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I'm surprised they didn't make a version of Mary Jane Black to match with Not-Mary Jane in the Holland movies.
Hell, I remember some people legit thought Michelle was called Mary Jane.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"I'm reviewing comics from the 60's, and I'm surprised to discover that initially Spider-man was considered one of the strongest heroes (Only surpassed by Thor, Hulk and the thing)
And you may wonder, did Peter become weaker?
Not really, heroes with super-strength started getting better feats, which included lifting thousands of tons or even mountains, so Peter being able to lift a small tank or something like that stopped being so special by the standards of heroes with super-strength.

Electro is one of Spidey's most iconic rogues, he was never going to stay dead forever even without a movie appearance.
Or even something like with Nadia Pym where it's a new character that isn't quite Michelle Jones-Watson but is obviously meant to be her 616 counterpart.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonIn other news, one month to go before we learn The Bad Thing Peter Did. What are we thinking?
- Legitimately kinda bad, but underwhelming;
- Complete misunderstanding; OR
- Actually done by a villain but with Pete in the right place at the right time to get all the blame (hi, Speedball)?

It really does feel like they always find how to make it the worst of both worlds like that.
But yeah, relevant to the current topic: I remember seeing the argument that OMD had to happen because aside from editorial, they had multiple writers who wouldn't touch married Spidey. And fair enough, that does seem like a huge problem to have. But uh... they break up Spidey and we get hit with a revolving door of creative teams to having one writer for ten years, with many writers seemingly (or explicitly) not wanting to touch the book now.
That uh... really doesn't seem like it fixed the problem.
The reality is, you can't turn back time. You can undo the stories in continuity, but they still exist, and people are aware of that. Quesada even referred to it as putting the genie back into the bottle, and I really don't get the mentality behind it.

Interesting bit about Nadia, the character was originally planned to be for a Bumblebee book over at DC.
Only DC turned down the writers so they went to Marvel and pitched the idea to them. Which they liked it and thats how we got Nadia.
Also explains why despite being a sorta tie-in to the movie's Hope Pym, she is nothing like her.

At this point you just have to be particular bout it. Like Mark Waid still doesn't like Lois being married to Superman but he still writes a lot of Superman stuff. So what does he do? He writes around it. He doesn't mention the marriage in his books, so he's still married and nothing's changed, its just not relevant to the stories he's writing.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I remember reading interviews about how even in the 60's Spider-Man was bound to a status quo and going to college with a new circle of friends were kinda just replacements for his high school days.
The Protomen enhanced my life.
