This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

But seriously, I have less than a clue about what's going on between them.
Call this copium, but there's a theory some on a discord channel tat Marvel could probably stand to rip off the plot of Bender's Big Score when it comes to the Paul and MJ relationship.
What if Paul is a time displaced Peter? Only instead of Leela being in the dark about that with Fry's other version, Mary Jane IS in on what's happened and doesn't want Peter around her in case he susses out the truth and prevents history from unfolding as it should?
Paul is powerless though, but then, let's remember that the setting of the Lost Hunt is portland around the time of the Clone Saga, when Peter was powerless, married to MJ, and was expecting a child.
Also, Dematteis said in several interviews that the idea to use the Spider-Marriage in a Clone Saga setting came direct from editorial, not him.
Again, could be pure copium, but it'd be a hell of a way to turn Paul into a fan favourite character instead of the roadblock he presently is...because he's always been a more together straight-headed Peter Parker.
That would give Peter even greater stakes during the run...one mistake, for want of a nail, etc...and MJ's family life with Paul is erased and she loses her children.
I might just add this to the WMG section of Zeb's ASM run.

On one hand, comics are weird, so that could work so long as we remember that mantra. And come to think of it, it can't just be coincidence that Paul and MJ were at the same exact ski resort as Peter and Felicia were.
But on the other hand, it doesn't explain that flashback of Paul beating the tar out of Peter that one time or how Paul barely factored into MJ's train of thought during Dark Web.

Ever see/read the Time Traveller's Wife? Sometimes you can be your own worst enemy and are even prone to arguing with yourself]
But yeah you have a point about MJ thinking more about the kids in Dark Web, but remember, she does tell Felicia she senses Peter is troubled and wants her to look after him, so even if she didn't think about Paul, if Paul was Peter, then she did think about him

Okay, if Paul was Peter, then this would be a perfect example of in-your-face foreshadowing. Like that reveal in Transformers when Onyx Prime turned out to be Shockwave.
So far, the only thing we've seen out of Paul that wasn't a dick move is him paying Peter's rent when the Landlord seemed like he was gonna kick him out while Peter was away from the house.
One Strip! One Strip!Honestly, I'd give it to Peter.
Providing he doesn't deck Shaw hard enough for the latter to become too strong, all he has to do is web Shaw up without hitting him.
So basically, it depends a lot on if he knows how Shaw's power works. Cause provided Shaw doesn't get buffed up, he's just an ordinary human, albeit one you can't punch.
One Strip! One Strip!
I remember hearing rumors that Ed Brubaker wanted to write ASM years ago but it was either before or during the Slott era and didn't happen. No idea if that's true. He might be busy with creator-owned stuff now.
For Falcon he basically said that he was tired of Marvel basically making billions of his and Steve Epting's work where they only really got salutary compensation and recognition. For Crusader, he basically said that he was more or less done with corporate cape comics (and to be fair he is still pumping out indy books) but signed on because he was a fan of the other names attached and liked the basic pitch.
Basically I doubt Brubaker would have actually taken up the ASM gig, or at least as relatively late in his Marvel career as 2012.
Yep. The current run stinks...but it's what editorial wants...so this is probably as good as we can expect until a massive shift occurs at the top. The book is now completely off brand...since the much more popular movies and games have an adult Peter with MJ. If any good can come of Wells's run...it would be if it drives off enough readers to force the higher ups to tell editorial to get the books in line with the rest of the Spider-Man media.
I'm currently more invested in Norman's attempt at a redemption arc than I am in Peter's romantic woes. Never thought I'd say that but I really am enjoying Gold Goblin even though I just KNOW it'll end with Norman becoming evil but I really can't help but empathize with Norman with how Cantwell writes him. It helps that Norman actually is getting punished for his sins and being forced to feel guilt so there's an interesting premise there IMO.
I have talked to another troper who likes the run, and I'll take their word for it. But I'll wait until the run is complete before giving it a shot.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"

Spider-Man#5 preview
(the Slott book)
Hmm, Pete, now cut from the web of life, means He was never bitten by the spider and is actually present at the house when the Burgler invades, and he appears he's going to take the bullet for May. We know he survives because the previous issue's cliffhanger saw him working at Oscorp
Also there's a new Spider-Woman patrolling town...probably the Cindy of this new reality, now the only one that was bitten by the spider
