This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

That movie is gonna kick all our asses. No doubt about it.
Also, just for the hell of it, I got curious about Peter's strength. Mainly how he's able to lift about 10 tons (and probably more under enough stress).
Well, I actually got curious about May-Day and how she's only half as strong (5 tons), so I checked out things that weigh 5 tons via this website with a list of things that weigh 5 tons
.
Wow. Right off the bat, she's capable of lifting African and Asian Elephants, certain types of Ambulances (which means she can also lift certain cars around that size as well), smaller size Bulldozers and recreational vehicles.
That's actually a pretty wide variety of things.
And then I checked a link on that pageto things that weigh about 10 tons
. That list includes tanks, semi-trucks, and even at least one type of plane, which is interesting since I recall Peter did manage to help a plane land using his strength.
This really reminds me that Peter scored on the Super Power Lottery front. And to think, May-Day is only half as strong and she's still a pretty heavy hitter.
Hey. Doesn't Annie have the same 5 ton limit as May? They were written by different people, so I'd assume that's not something that carried over.
One Strip! One Strip!Yeah. That's great.
Annie also appears in the trailer alongside MJ as Spinerette.
One Strip! One Strip!Felicia heads to MJ's apartment to check in on her at Peter's request, we get a glimpse into her thoughts over how things have changed since she last met MJ during the Beyond saga, and how she didn't want to be involved with Peter, but now she is. She finds MJ's apartment has already been compromised by the rampaging demons, they threaten MJ's boyfriend Paul and her kids, but MJ stands defiantly against them, displaying her powers right in front of Paul and the Kids. Do they know already, or has MJ been forced to reveal her secret?
We then take a trip back in time, where Felicia successfully makes off with Doctor Doom's mask

So we were just talking in the Spiderverse thread about Superior spiderman, and I was reminded of the utterly baffling and infuriating ending of volume 2.
Like seriously, I genuinely don’t get what they were trying to do with to that. Christos Gage is not a bad writer, and he proves that in the series itself, which makes the whole thing even more inexplicable.
The Mephisto thing is completely at odds with the rest of the book’s tone, but at the same time, I’m pretty sure it was always intended to be a 12 issue miniseries, and Mephisto even shows up for a cameo in the middle of it, which suggests that this was maybe always the plan?
And the other thing that really gets me about it, is that the idea of post-character development Otto having to try to be hero without Peter’s memories, isn’t a terrible idea in itself. I’d even argue that it’s even the next natural step for vol. 2 Otto in terms of character development. But the thing is, that needs to be a used as part of a concerted effort to advance and grow the character, not as a cheap snapback to status quo.
(Yes, I’m am still bitter about this however many years later.)

Supposedly only being Doctor Octopus Ruthless could resolve the situation.
When I read the actual issue, I was not convinced of that.

Forever liveblogging the Avengers
That’s an incredibly weak justification, that Otto should have been smart enough to see through immediately. Like literally, all it took to fool Spider-Norman was a body double.
Christos Gage is not a bad writer, so what the heck gives? I’d really like to know.

I assume that Classic Ock was demanded for Nick Spencer's Sinister War arc.
The comics are a year and a half apart but I don't think Ock does much between the two so it seems likely.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYeah that's the most infuriating part, I'd accept Doc Ock turning bad guy again if they did something interesting and had a great arc of him as the Big Bad.
But it took 2 years for him to show up, he's a pawn of Kindred, and ends up helping Spider-Man.
And so far, he hasn't done much, something serving the Kingpin, and working with alternate versions of himself.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"He also made Ben Reilly upset and contributed to the series of events that led to his brain melting.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIf the idea was to get Doc Ock back to his roots as one of Spider-Man's greatest foes!!! then the snapback didn't do that. Ock has been overshadowed by Kindred, Beyond, and Kingpin in the stuff he's been in after the snapback. If the idea was that the writers felt they could tell more stories with Classic Ock... well, they haven't yet really.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYeah that's why I'm annoyed with the decision to revert Superior to Doc Ock.
Like I said, Superior Volume 2 actually got me invested in Superior Spider-Man's arc, and his supporting cast. Like sure it wasn't perfect but dang it, there was actual good development on Otto's side not the awful Karma Houdini stuff in Slott's run.
And of course, to add insult to injury, Mephisto was involved, and since he's Marvel Editorial's self-insert, he's never ever going to be defeated by the Spider-People, particularly Peter as that might lead to OMD getting undone.
No matter what Spencer's run tries to tease, Mephisto is never going to be defeated by Spider-Man despite the run turning him into the Big Bad of Spider-Man.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Marvel's refusal to Let Characters Experience Meaningful Change is honestly its biggest problem. Status quo will always reign supreme, there will always be a need, from creators and editorial, to set characters back to The Way They Were. Even those rare characters who have had mostly-permanent growth, like Venom, get stories going back to their old characterizations. From what I've gathered, the Dark Web story going on right now has Venom back to his "eat Spider-Man's brains" crap, right? And there's pretty regular minis set during his Lethal Protector days, so Marvel can try to have their cake and eat it. Laura Kinney may be Wolverine right now, but that's not stopping them from putting out an X-23 mini.
Nostalgia is a fucking disease.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Ironically, the Lethal Protector mini is still Venom post " I hate Spider-Man because I blame him for my crappy journalism".
And honestly, all the stuff with Klyntar and Knull is super overwhelming for me RN.
Like I haven't followed Venom Eddie Brock since he became Anti-Venom and that was back in 2008.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"I think Peter Parker specifically lost his chance to move forward in the Clone Saga, since it was more or less peddling in exactly the kind of toxic nostalgia and inability to move forward that the original Clone Saga criticized. Poor Ben Reilly was probably never going to actually become Spider-Man full time, it would have only been a matter of time before Marvel brought Peter back, but killing him off, killing baby Mayday off, and giving the fans such a depressing and inconclusive ending after such a long and inconsistent storyline was probably the real moment that actual change died for Pete.

I made a trope page for King's Ransom if anyone wants to contribute to it.
