This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread
which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

he/him
It's been getting broadly positive reviews on the usual sites, too (AIPT gave the first collection 9/10). So if sales are still strong, I don't think Marvel's going to hear alarm bells.
"Twitter doesn't like something? Oh no! That's unheard of!" Yeah, Marvel doesn't particularly care what people on Twitter say.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics....Wait, really? Like, really really?
I wasn't expecting that. I was under the impression that we were all collectively groaning and cringing over how bleak the Wells run was becoming.
Great. Now I don't know who to blame: social media for overreacting or readers for buying and eating this run like candy.
The start of this current run, so issue #1 of the 2022 ASM relaunch.
Unless you want to read about the whole "cleansing Norman of his sins" thing which I think was Beyond.

I started reading Beyond but lost interest. Sidelining Peter for pretty much the entire arc isn't great, and being spoiled on what happens to Ben on the end just put such a bad taste in my mouth.
I've read a comic of issues of the Wells run and I can't say I've been enjoying that either. Kamala working with Peter is nice to see (does she know he's Spider-man?) and I'm interested in seeing Peter and Felicia have an attempt at dating now that both of them have grown a lot closer together and are healthier with one another - but the mystery plot, the breaking up with MJ, the working with Norman... all of it is so off-putting.

But then it never does. Ever since the marriage, it's been clear that Peter is one of those heroes who'll never get a long-term, stable relationship in the comics.
At least not unless editorial have a very major rethink.
(More generally, is the rule that team members can settle down but solo heroes must have a tumultuous love life? Because Marvel seem to handle it that way)

OK, but that's actually a pretty normal thing to do? "If you can't be with the one you love" and all that. The person you love is seeing someone else? Well, rather than sit and angst about it, you just . . . move on with your life. You meet someone else and see how it goes. I mean, shit, to a certain extent, the early relationship with MJ was Peter trying to get over Gwen.
I can't really judge how it's being handled, since I'm not reading the comic, but just based on your description, I'm honestly not sure what the problem is. Did he tell Felicia he was using her as a rebound, or something? Was there something in his inner monologue indicating that he was only using her? Or are you just instinctively putting the absolute worst possible spin on it because of your own bias in favour of Peter and MJ? Because, honestly, I'm getting the impression that anything that isn't Peter And MJ Are Together And Happy And Married Forever is something you're automatically going to hate, without giving it a fair chance.
Which, you know, fair. There are comics I've read that I pretty much refused to give a fair chance. I'm just saying, if you see things through the worst lens, maybe recognize how that's going to cloud your perception.

for me at least its the fact that the reason why Peter and mj are broken up is mystery boxed. At least last time we were told before hand they would be broken up and not remember their marraige. Here we got from their relationship being stronger than it had in years, Peter is ready to propose and mj invited him to move in, we suddenly see a guy floating in midair and we cut to months later when mj doesn't want anything to do with him.
If it had been explained why that is before he got with Felicia I personally wouldn't have found it so bad. Like its still be bad but not as bad as it is
It's not but literally nothing in ASM is ever going to last worth anything, that ship has long sailed and i hate it
but
I can at least enjoy this one thing while it lasts.
And yeah, I think you're putting way too negative spin on things. Peter is trying to move on, true, but that doesn't mean he's using Felicia. We know he's attracted to her, we know they've been lovers before and he's really cared about her - and they really care about each other as friends at this point.
Seeing a modern and healthier take on their relationship is something.

Not new. Not even new for Spider-Man. The reason the Clone Saga got so infamous is that it was doubled in length by executive fiat after they saw how profitable dangling complicated mysteries in front of fans' faces was. Will this next issue resolve it? No. This one? No. Ad infinitum.
And of course that ended up backfiring when the story got so convoluted they had to fall back on Hijacked by Ganon when the time came to write the actual ending, as they figured there was only one Spider-rogue who was enough of a Diabolical Mastermind to make ALL of this nonsense make sense...
Same thing happened with Hobgoblin, although that was more that the writer kept changing and taking his plans with him
Forever liveblogging the Avengers![]()
Mostly because the explanation was really convoluted, but eh, I'll take Narm Charm-y comic book explanations like "clones created by a demon-possessed supercomputer" over 3edgy5me sex stuff any day.
Tiamatty, Peter is using Felicia. Just a few issues ago when he was trying to save MJ from Moira, he told Logan she was the most important person in the world to him, then a few issues later he says "Maybe now I can move on" after Felicia agrees to the date, he's doing it clearly to spite his feelings for MJ after the frosty reception she gave him the last couple of issues, he's not in a good place and isn't thinking straight. This is the man who never truly gives up on Mary Jane, and after Spencer's run highlighting how Peter himself believes nothing works as it should without Mary Jane...well, you can tell his current frame of mind is just so unauthentic. Felicia didn't help by macking on him in issue 900. Everyone looks bad.
This is evident to the reader, and Marvel's editorial has been very forthcoming with fans in letters pages, they know Peter/MJ is the preferred pairing, they're aware they're angering readers, and they acknowledge there are people in the office who do love them together, Wells has already said publicly nothing 'permanent' is happening to any character, and there's a mini-series coming next month which has Peter married to MJ, so there's no need to get invested in anyone 'moving on', Marvel are just doing this to create commotion and trigger fans, knowing they will still read regardless waiting for the pay off and the resolution where Peter and MJ's true love conquers all.
You say I'm biased because I like Peter/MJ, I could easily say Felicia/Peter fans are more receptive to this because THEY are biased to their pairing and are willing to look past the very real damage being done to the characters through the poor writing. I've been reading the book rather thoroughly, Felicia is aware Peter is heartbroken, that's why I think she's only dating him to be an easy 'fix' for him. It's not a relationship built on sturdy ground, it's done out of friendship, yes, but not any kind of romantic loyalty.
From the way it's written....no, this isn't a 'modern and healthier relationship', this is the desperation of a sick man who will burden a confident woman with fixing his issues.

Have they ever had a functioning relationship outside of, like, TAS and maybe some alternate universes?
