Spider-Man General Discussion

Go To

This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.

  • Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
  • Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
  • Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.

Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.

Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.

Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

     Original Thread OP
Since everyone likes talking about him. I know little about him(Ironically,I got nearly all I know about him from a Batman thread),but he's apparently important so I made this thread. Enjoy.

Wow, he's finally fighting Mephisto :P

Well it's a bit too late on the ruin the relationship part if it is Mephisto.

The solicitation says it 'could' ruin the relationship, not 'will'

I doubt the Empyre tie-in will be what breaks Peter and MJ. For one, when has a new writer ever been tasked with something that significant? And two, it's not in the core book or Amazing MJ, if anyone's going to 'break' the two down the line, it'll be Spencer using Kindred, since part of his whole business is making sure Peter and MJ stay apart. The Skrulls aren't going to one-up him on that, otherwise what's the point of him?

The solicitation for Amazing MJ claims MJ goes somewhere nobody knows her name or face to avoid a killer who takes out witnesses to his crimes...so I'm wondering if this is a way of keeping MJ out of Amazing Spider-Man while Sins Rising is going on?

But speaking of Mephisto...it was Joe Kelly who actually kicked off Marvel's constant callbacks to One More Day back during his Spider-Man/Deadpool run, so maybe Kelly will bring something like that to this new book more directly?

Why is she wearing Miles' costume.

Just because it's like the best Spidey look doesn't mean she gets to copy it.

Yeah, but she never showed up in the iconic snapped attire. I think she showed up in a black dress? They were having a elegant party, that's what I remember.

It needs to be said though, around the time was when Toy Biz took over Marvel and they would release Spider-Man toys of practically everything, regardless if it came from the cartoon or the comics. My favorite has to be the Vampire Wars toyline, featuring the monstrosity of Spider-Vampire, which I used to love as a kid, this version of Spidey was exclusively created for the toyline.

And what the hell is he doing fighting Daredevil?

I know Peter's rogues have a habit of branching out (Rhino was fighting Hulk for a little bit, Sandman cheats on him with the FF, Arcade refuses to choose between him and the X-Men, and our boy Kingpin found a new mortal enemy years ago) but this is ridiculous.

And then there's the one foe he's never beaten....Stiltman.tongue

[up][up][up] Ugh. I always get disappointed when Crossbones shows up, because fuck Neo-Nazis. Actually, I'd love to see Kate Pryde take Crossbones down, without her powers, without anyone intervening on her behalf. A Jewish woman and a Neo-Nazi, on equal footing, with the Jewish woman winning. And then rubbing his face in it.

Because like I said. Fuck Nazis.

Kitty shouldn't have to be depowered to prove she's better than Crossbones.

She wouldn't be depowered, she just wouldn't use her powers. Because she doesn't need to.

Okay but it still seems like a strange requirement. Whether she uses her powers or not, a Nazi is still getting beat up. She does not and should have anything to prove to him.

The argument could be made that using her powers would be cheating. It wouldn't put them on an even playing field.

I want a Nazi to lose, in a clean, straight, even fight, to the kind of person a Nazi would hate. And that happens so frigging rarely. Seriously, Captain America is allowed to beat the shit out of Nazis all day every day, but Black fucking Panther needed Falcon's help to beat Red Skull. Sam Wilson, as Captain America, routinely had help against the likes of Crossbones or Zemo. And I'm tired of that shit. No powers, no gimmicks, no outside assistance, just let's see characters from marginalized communities beat Nazis in fights.

Captain America isn't a normal human. As for Black Panther vs Red Skull, I'm not seeing the problem of two black men defeating a nazi while the two white guys were incapacitated. The idea that Kitty is "cheating" by using something she was born with is ridiculous as opposed to Captain America whose skill and athleticism is entirely the product of a science experiment. I don't care how a minority beats a nazi in a universe where heroes frequently resort to tactics and tricks to defeat opponents. They do not need to be "on an even field" with the nazi.

Wasn't the point of Captain Marvel's defeat over Yong-Rogg that she does not need to lower herself by evening the playing the field to defeat her abuser?
