This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

I'll give that scene credit for one thing in that it does show one way Ben is different from Peter.
I do think physical bullying still occurs in high school. It just isn't limited to jocks beating up nerds.
I've seen it described as feeling very much like something written by an inexperienced fanfic writer, with it's Cliché Storm premise, and over reliance on commonly overused tropes with Spider-Man and especially Spider-Man AUs (RYV, Spider-Girl, and God help us, Reign), without bringing a whole lot new or interesting to the table.
Which would actually make sense, if it's true that Henry Abrams did most of the writing.

I mean, it’s being written by a kid who’s maybe 19 with some help from his dad, so I don’t want to be too harsh. It’s Henry Abrams’s first comics writing gig and I’m sure it was a fun way to bond with his father. I just think there are way more interesting things you could do with an out-of-continuity “Spidey & Son 15 Years Later” story than “Peter Parker has a strained relationship with his rebellious teenage son and also he’s sad I guess because MJ died.” I mean, I’m still waiting for the trade before I read Life Story, but from what I’ve heard on this thread, it’s going for some wild choices with its hypothetical non-616 story.
And, I mean, I shouldn’t throw stones about writing Spider-Man fan fiction. If my dad was a rich Hollywood producer who could hook me up with Marvel, you can bet your web-shooters I’d actually finish whatever story I started writing five years ago and sell it to Marvel.
At least Sara Pichelli’s art is good.

The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]yeah, I don’t want to be too harsh on it either. It’s not terrible, and the potential is definitely there, but his inexperience as a writer is painfully obvious.

Kindred has some sort of connection to Norman Osborn. https://www.cbr.com/excl-amazing-spider-man-30-preview/
The Protomen enhanced my life.Hey, something else we can add to our running list of things we know about Kindred.
- Kindred: similar in kind; one’s family or relations
- Centipede Themed demon
- Made a deal with Quentin Beck, to bring him back from the dead after he committed Suicide
- Was a human that became a demon
- Working with Mysterio
- Is the reason Mysterio now wants to make the movie that MJ is starring in.
- Really touchy about his name
- Is likely someone Peter (and the audience) would recognize
- claims to know Peter “better than he knows himself”
- seems to want to keep Peter from proposing to MJ
- Has some sort of connection to Wilson Fisk
- possible connection to Norman Osborn.

Jackal? Harry Osborn? Frederick Foswell? Gwen Stacy? Anna Watson? Mephisto? Mayday Parker? Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham? Steve Ditko? The possibilities are endless!

It's a version of Peter Parker.
that would actually make a lot of sense.
Accidental double post.

Yep, after that preview I'm on the boat of saying Kindred is OMD Peter.
Stella ~Part 3 (Atelier Shallie)That was my idea!
The Protomen enhanced my life.1. Messed-up face Norman 2. Tommy Lee Jones Norman 3. Kindred 4. Willem Dafoe
The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]What better way to bury the marriage than to make the married Spider-Man a villain? Genius, and very shrewd.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Since we're still basically taking shots in the dark, I've seen speculation that Kindred is the body of the original Doc Ock that died with Peter's mind inside of it, at the beginning of Superior.

What if Kindred is Villainous Failure Manchild Peter?
He wants MJ and Peter apart to justify to himself his bad decisions. Like an evil take on Spider-Verse's Peter B.

So here's the running list so far (In no particular order).
- The burglar that killed Uncle Ben
- Pre-OMD Peter
- Villainous Failure Manchild Peter
- Ned Leeds
- Harry Osborne
- The Corpse of (the original) Doc Ock
- Ezekiel
-
The daughter that they gave up when they sold their marriage to Mephisto -
Gwen Stacey
Is there anything we can rule out?
Edited by megaeliz on Sep 23rd 2019 at 11:54:04 AM
I'm going to say it's not Peter's OMD daughter because "I'm here to get revenge because Satan aborted me" is maybe inappropriate for a Spider-Man comic.
It can't be Gwen Stacey, because they already did that with Dead No More and she apparently forgave Peter.
I can definitely see that.
On the other hand, it would be following up on a subplot from OMD itself.

I think she just says "I'm not going to be born because you're dumb and wow did Marvel editorial not think about the implications of this."
OMD is best left ignored in the event of another wedding.
Oooh, corpse of Doc Ock would be a GREAT way to reveal Kindred. I’m hoping for that one now.

Abrams’ Spider-Man #1: Can we all agree to put to rest the cliche where the protagonist, before becoming a superhero, sees someone getting bullied by your typical troglodyte stock bully character and picks a fight with the bully to show they’ve got a heart of gold and a strong sense of justice even before getting powers? It’s been done to death and it’s unrealistic. I don’t think I ever saw a “jock” beating up a “nerd”, or even saw any beatings in general in high school. A more realistic and less cliche scene would be, I don’t know, the hero making an effort to be kind to a classmate who’s gay, or a seven-eyed plasma-eating purple mutant, or otherwise marginalized and excluded.
Probably not gonna pick up the rest of this miniseries. Seems pretty by-the-numbers.
