If you are going to add a reason to either keep or cut to the crowner, please do not simply repeat one that's already there.

@ #1224 (Pinata):

Only the problematic Troper Tales pages are being considered for deletion. This includes any pages that contain racism, sexism, etc. that paint a poor picture of TV Tropes and tropers in general.

edit: Sorry. Calming down now.

I thought his point was that he didn't want Troper Tales censored, not that he thought the whole section was getting cut.

It wouldn't have hurt to have put more thought into the thread title. Oh, like "Which Trope Tales pages should be locked to improve our image?"

Well, it's not too late to edit the thread title.

[up][up][up] Moderation and censorship are two different things. I know that TV Tropes is supposed to be "a buttload more informal" than Wikipedia, but that doesn't mean that it's a free-for-all. When certain lines are crossed (e.g. racism, sexism, violent sociopathy), it pushes the wiki into tasteless territory. Ego-stroking may be an annoyance, but it's these hot buttons that are the real problem.

Just because we're more informal doesn't mean we can't have standards.

I don't think TV Tropes HAS censored anything. Ever.

[up]We've always a policy against NSFW images, and the official word is that we're supposed to aim for roughly PG-13 level unless the nature of the trope or the work makes that impossible (i.e. Porn Tropes and the like).

We're just in the process of deciding exactly where to draw the line. It's not like we're deleting all potentially offensive content, we're just trying to keep it where it belongs.

Hey, if anyone feels like leaving over this decision, let them. They were probably part of the problem in the first place.

I created a Adult Child Curator Notes page to act as a sandbox (I hope that's OK!). So basically I created a list of criteria for what I felt we should require of Troper Tales for the Adult Child trope, and out of 29 examples, 2 passed my test. Maybe I am being too strict, but I guess we can discuss that later.

That looks good. And I don't think the criteria are too strict. If that's what's required to meet the definition of the trope, then that's what should be required to be a Troper Tale.

Please don't add the following by itself:

  • No problems a vigilant Wiki Curator can't fix.

It's pointless if you aren't specific. Just like listing a page as needing cut without specifics is useless.

[up] It's a perfectly valid sentiment. "The problems with the page can be solved through curation" is a good argument against a cut.

Where on the page is that stated?

[up][up]No, it's totally pointless. If you can't articulate HOW and WHY it can be fixed, then all you are doing is saying "I like this one." It doesn't add anything to the discussion. Just vote it down.

Putting it by itself is just being lazy. I for one will ignore it, or perhaps vote them all up to actually get people to put real reasons.

If you really think it can be fixed, you ought to be able to explain how.

[up] It means "The possibility of attracting occasional bad examples doesn't make the page unsalvageable because bad examples can be removed." How is that not an argument?

For my two cents, if anyone would decide the hypothetical TMI rating scale, it should be the people in charge of the site. The tropers here are way too different in opinion to be defining what is and isn't appropriate.

This is true.

The "TMI" argument for cutting in some entires should be taken as "the pro-cut-it point of view calls TMI on this".

I don't think the criteria is just "I don't like this trope."
I strongly suspect that's how people are using it, though.

There are several crowner options for which the "pro" reason (purge) seems to be "this one example is (incredibly) bad, the whole thing shall not be allowed to exist". Reeks of what is told above. Premium example: Genius Bonus. troacttid's example argument seems to be relevant here, I am tempted to use it verbatim.

I've always read "No problems that a curator can't fix" as "The visible problems can be editted away with a good curator", not as "I don't want this getting nuked"

Thus why I am finding the ones I like and am familiar with and becoming a curator to fix them.

Crown Description:

Don't bother to say "all of them". Name specific Troper Tales pages that should be axed. An "UP" Vote means you think it should be cut completely. A "DOWN" vote means it should be kept.

"I don't care for this page" is not a reason to cut it. "This page is unsalvagable. Kill it with fire" is.

PLEASE bullet point pro and con examples if there are more than one.
