I like playing the good guy Kino, besides which I am going to be a "bad guy" smuggler at least once.

So yeah...just saw some vids of a trooper wrecking shop...the Republic has been redeemed.

@JB: Kill those civilians/elves/hostages/whatevers!

Have any of you guys seen the video time-line? They got Lance Henricksson to narrate it.

RE: Advanced classes....both bounty hunter AC;s get the flame thrower ability? Damn, so much for picking powertech.

Whelp, I'm stuck between a Trooper and an Imperial Agent. On one hand, noob tubing charging Sith Lords is awesome. On the other hand, walking away from orbital strike explosions is the epitome of badass.

WHY?! Why must this be such a difficult decision?!

Imperial Agent allows you to become Grand Moff Tarkin.

"RE: Advanced classes....both bounty hunter AC;s get the flame thrower ability? Damn, so much for picking powertech."

The Powertech is designed to get closer than the Merc, who is a long range adv. class.

The info on the blog post gives me hope about them making as many advanced classes viable in Pv P as possible. This is important to me.

PvP and PvE end game content is always important.

Anyone else get a Cad bane vibe from the merc? And as for the powertech being the close range class...why? With the exception of the flamethrower, they're both using blasters and explosives.

Kinda like the deviation between the commando and vanguard?/trooper

The Powertech relies on devices, and basically tanks. The Merc is a buff/debuff class.

Did they ever give an explanation on how a bounty hunter can go up against a trooper? Every other Sith class has an equal lightside counterpart except them.

Bounty Hunter/Smuggler, actually.

[up] Aren't the Imperial Agents the Smuggler counterpart?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the pairs are something like:

  • Lightsaber Users (Knight and Warrior)
  • Force Users (Consular and Inquisitor)
  • Cover Users (Smuggler and Agent)
  • Heavyweights (Trooper and Bounty Hunter)

By the way, I really wish the troopers and bounty hunters could use cover. sad Not doing so is a Star Wars tradition I could do without.

No.

  • Damage (Knight and Inquisitor)
  • Heal/Buff/Debuff (Consular and Agent)
  • Ranged (Smuggler and Bounty Hunter)
  • Tanks (Trooper and Sith Warrior)

Anyway, it's not a 1:1 relationship between classes.

The Empire is all about offense. The Republic is all about defense.

[up] You sure about that?

Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior are melee. The advanced classes are close-range damage, dual lightsabers/close-range damage, tanking, single lightsaber.

The Bounty Hunter and Trooper are heavy-ranged. The advanced classes are mid to long range damage, healing/close to mid range damage, tanking.

The Imperial Agent and Smuggler are light-ranged. The advanced classes are mid to long range damage/close to mid range damage, healing.

Sith Inquisitor and Jedi Consular are casters. The advanced classes are close to mid range damage, tanking/mid to long range damage, healing.

From what that advanced class developer blog said, the relationship seems quite close by intention to me.

^Pretty much what I was going to say, it just makes me wonder how a BH with a blaster could ever go up against a trooper with....well whatever the hell they carry.

But for the love of god, get some cover goddammit!

[up] Yeah, but the Bounty Hunters do have flamethrowers and missles!

Yes, well, unless Bioware decides to dice that in as a big update after the game comes out to shake things up or as part of an expansion pack, I don't see it happening. :(

It's just that the idea of standing there getting shot goes against everything i've ever learned or played.
