No, it's the same way people look wistfully among ruins and abandoned buildings and wonder what the people were like that lived there, their culture, history, languages, etc. In a post-oil world we'll see more of that.....as in looking in the ruins of cities and wondering in a similar war, or in a more negative way on 'they wasted their resources and had warnings'.
Also, a hypothetical post-nuclear war world...

WHASSUP....... ....with lolis!I love doing stuff like that, for me it's one big detective case. I roll in with my buddies to a building, figure out its purpose if I didn't already know, and then figure out the basics of how everything works.
Like a decommissioned cement plant out in Ventura, where I live, it was interesting to go there and then look at all the machinery that was still there and the workstations, and try to derive the process from that.
A useful analytical skill for the post-apocalypse. :P
Frankly, I think that there's something very cool about a "modern" city that has mountain lions prowling its crumbling fringes... But that comes from reading too much Thomas Ligotti. *
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.^^ Wasn't that a Twilight Zone reference?

Aww, did I hurt your widdle fee-fees?I'm shocked there aren't shitloads of squatters here, you would have a pretty safe place to bed down if you went to one of those HUGE buildings that had hundreds of rooms and several stories, could easily hide away in a specific room and barricade it while you sleep.
Detroit would be a shithole for a post-apoc situation, but there'd sure be plenty of good shelter.
The Squatters instead inhabit abandoned/foreclosed Mc Mansions in the suburban fringes of whatever metropolitan area they live in.....its easier and more comfortable to live there
WHASSUP....... ....with lolis! Is it bad that I found much of that to be incredibly beautiful?
Genkidama for Japan, even if you don't have money, you can help![1]I live in Chicago, and like some of the abandoned factories around Pullman and the far south side of the cities.
Chicago ghettoes aren't 'run down' like those Michigan urban husks, just full of ghetto folk - ie the neighborhoods are 'lively' to use that shitty term

WHASSUP....... ....with lolis!Waco, Texas looks old everywhere even on the college campus. The old old buildings like the old news paper building with gothic style architecture was cool. The old abandoned apartments were very cool and still had power.
The rest of buildings you had to be very careful which ones you went into. There was a heavy gang presence in Waco and they liked the abandoned buildings too. As did swarms of the fucking starlings and the buildings they filled up became health hazards. The last time I was there though they had embarked on a city renewal project the involved stripping down the old buildings recycling and selling what they could and selling the empty lots to news business.
They have wonderful old churches still most occupied but were built in the fortress church style because they were present in more wild times.
Who watches the watchmen?

I didnt know so many people here were Urban Exploration people.
