This is a thread where, as the title implies, our avatars (from our galleries) are posting in an in-universe forum thread. You can drop in any time with pretty much any character you want, whether from existing works or your own OCs. Though most of it is done through forum posts, some "in-person" interactions between characters is also fine.

Even if this is a more casual RP, there are still some rules and general RP etiquette to keep in mind for everyone to have a good time and feel comfortable:

  • NO GODMODDING. Godmodding is when you decide what happens to another player's character, and is generally frowned upon. In particular, avoid injuring and especially killing someone else's character; fighting is ok but let the other player decide if the hit connects. If your plot idea requires something to happen to a different player's character, you'll want to privately discuss this with them and if they're ok with that. This includes in-universe moderation.
  • Be nice and respect other players' boundaries. Your character being mean or a jerk is one thing, but if someone gets uncomfortable about your behavior towards their characters, knock it off. Also do not force others into your story arcs; in general it would be a good idea to ask the other person first if they are interested, and plan it together if they are.
  • If you have anything to say, ask about, ect. that is not part of the RP, you can put it under a spoiler tag [[spoiler: like this]]
  • While almost any character is welcome, please avoid playing any real-life person who's mainly associated with controversies, drama and problematic behavior. We don't need that here.
  • Have fun!

Ahh, console video games (or vidcons as I call them). the ultimate medium of expression, able to convey any emotion ranging from hatred to love, loyalty to fear, all in front of our eyes. Ah, and with lovingly crafted art, music, and the ability to control the action, vidcons are the ultimate combination of the high arts. While I tend to play the stoic, I will be the first to admit that vidcons haven driven me to cry, to scream and shout, to feel actual hate; such is the power of this force beyond our wildest reckoning. And here I am, before you, to temp your tongues with the taint of such a tantalizing topic.

And the Japanese, the true geniuses behind the world of video games. Pah, I throw my scorn upon such incompetents of the West who would mock the true art of the Japanese with 'games' such as Baldur's Gate and Madden. Perhaps it is that the West is not as intelligent as the East, but this is a matter for another day. Japan has given us such masterpieces as the Final Fantasy series, Star Ocean, Wild Arms, and of course, Arc the Lad. Yes, some of the finest vidcons in the world were created by Japanese. I come to you today to ask you in all earnesty, what is your favorite vidcon? I will reveal mine after the grand debate has illustriously begun, but not before the first poster falls victim to my plot of discussion.

In other words, this is a thread on an imaginary forum our avatars frequent. The topic can fluctuate, and its mostly just general discussion.

I'm not very familiar with Pokemon, but I have a question. Is the distinction between "pokemon" and "animal" in any way meaningful? And considering that some moves, like Seismic Toss (if that's the correct name) throw the opponent Pokemon into orbit, are Pokemon battles ethical?

In defense of the Pokemon, there's a possibility that they already used these kinds of extreme moves before the humans even came along, so they might just be used to getting beaten up

From what I'm aware of, the Pokémon are distinct from animals in other universes in that they have these abilities that would be impossible for animals to have in other universes. Also, Seismic Toss doesn't actually throw the opponent Pokémon into orbit, it's more of a several meters throw. The animation for that move seems to be exaggerated for an effect.

[up]Yes, people can befriend them and use them for a wide range of tasks. I'm not originally from the Pokémon World so I learned so much just from experiencing it for the first time.

It took me about a week. I'm pretty good with my aim when it comes to throwing things such as Poke Balls, and I understand that a wild Pokemon needs to be exhausted from a battle in order to make it easier to catch. Putting a wild Pokemon to sleep before catching it is also pretty effective. I've also been researching online on the best ways to get them to learn moves and evolve quickly.

There's also EVs for each of the 6 stats which your Pokemon can get from defeating certain Pokemon. Higher EVs mean higher stats overall.

The Pokemon don't really attack at their full power. It's really just like a tug of war, and extra precautions are taken to ensure no one gets seriously hurt.

I'm not going to lie: seeing Alice talk with Mina, Marnie, etc. is really interesting. Because it seems like Alice & friends know next to nothing about "old" (to them) human culture, while Mina & friends seem to spend most of their time exposed to 21st-century pop-culture. Compared to us, who only live in the late 19th century.

RE: [1]

Isn't using these Pokemon for battle kinda cruel? Capturing and taming animals to participate in a blood sport doesn't sound ethical.

I mean . . . Is it less unethical than conscripting humans to kill each other? But that's what "war" is.

I don't think that helps your case, Sturmvoraus.

RE: [2]

I'm not very familiar with Pokemon, but I have a question. Is the distinction between "pokemon" and "animal" in any way meaningful?

That reminds me: I believe you (or maybe Icarus) asked us once why we call some creatures "monsters" instead of animals. Well, here, the difference between "animals" and "monsters" is that one is natural and the other unnatural.

Then again, from what I can tell, Pokemon are natural, so I don't know why they'd be considered seperate.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bridget_icon_575490809_9.png The study of ancient Earth media has been an ongoing field of archaeology for 740 years now. We know very little about what our ancestors viewed, so we can only piece together what they were like based on what little evidence they provide. There's the fairy tale of supposedly legendary plumber named "Mario", the music track I showed came from a lost album that belonged to a music band called "Genshin Impact", and so on.

Only few intact Earth media has survived today. One of the most notable ones is "Gundam", which to this day remains very popular to watch. Especially "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury."

Genshin Impact is a video game in my homeworld, developed by miHoYo. Personally, I don't play it because of its predatory monetization mechanics, but I respect the lore. Especially because some people from Tevyat chat here, and I'm friends with Albedo, who's from Tevyat.

We definitely need to ask them some questions about it because, the more we know about our ancient Earth media, the better we can understand our history. We do know they make tribal jungle music as Bridget shared earlier.

I don't think the people from Tevyat can tell you much about Genshin's soundtrack, or Earth for that matter. I know for a fact that Albedo doesn't recognize most radioactive elements.
Maybe Icarus is willing to offer some of his records on humanity, though?

Sure. No guarantees that my records are accurate to your homeworld, though - realistically, what I have is just a very good suggestion, and your archaeologists would have to double-check everything themselves.

I don't think "Genshin Impact" is a band. I believe it's what people in the future — OK, future for us, present-day for Stefan, and prehistoric past for you — call a "video game." Like a normal game, but done electronically somehow.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/naomi_icon_62642189_2.png Oh, you mean digital games? A form of interactive media powered by digital processors and mana cores? If true, that would make Genshin Impact a pre-mana core digital game, since mana cores form the entire backbone of the gaming industry nowadays.

Pre-mana core digital games must look very primitive, but that's just my speculation.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bridget_icon_575490809_9.png They do. Mana cores are a very convenient power source because mana is ubiquitous and the cores can be recharged with mana if they run out. It's used for generating electricity for our power grids, thus eliminating the old environment-destroying methods from Earth, used for powering our computers and smartphones, and they can enhance military weaponry with powerful magic. In the case of digital games, they can render more detailed digital environments that were not even possible on pre-mana core digital games back on Earth.
