This is a thread where, as the title implies, our avatars (from our galleries) are posting in an in-universe forum thread. You can drop in any time with pretty much any character you want, whether from existing works or your own OCs. Though most of it is done through forum posts, some "in-person" interactions between characters is also fine.

Even if this is a more casual RP, there are still some rules and general RP etiquette to keep in mind for everyone to have a good time and feel comfortable:

  • NO GODMODDING. Godmodding is when you decide what happens to another player's character, and is generally frowned upon. In particular, avoid injuring and especially killing someone else's character; fighting is ok but let the other player decide if the hit connects. If your plot idea requires something to happen to a different player's character, you'll want to privately discuss this with them and if they're ok with that. This includes in-universe moderation.
  • Be nice and respect other players' boundaries. Your character being mean or a jerk is one thing, but if someone gets uncomfortable about your behavior towards their characters, knock it off. Also do not force others into your story arcs; in general it would be a good idea to ask the other person first if they are interested, and plan it together if they are.
  • If you have anything to say, ask about, ect. that is not part of the RP, you can put it under a spoiler tag [[spoiler: like this]]
  • While almost any character is welcome, please avoid playing any real-life person who's mainly associated with controversies, drama and problematic behavior. We don't need that here.
  • Have fun!

    Original post

Ahh, console video games (or vidcons as I call them). the ultimate medium of expression, able to convey any emotion ranging from hatred to love, loyalty to fear, all in front of our eyes. Ah, and with lovingly crafted art, music, and the ability to control the action, vidcons are the ultimate combination of the high arts. While I tend to play the stoic, I will be the first to admit that vidcons haven driven me to cry, to scream and shout, to feel actual hate; such is the power of this force beyond our wildest reckoning. And here I am, before you, to temp your tongues with the taint of such a tantalizing topic.

And the Japanese, the true geniuses behind the world of video games. Pah, I throw my scorn upon such incompetents of the West who would mock the true art of the Japanese with 'games' such as Baldur's Gate and Madden. Perhaps it is that the West is not as intelligent as the East, but this is a matter for another day. Japan has given us such masterpieces as the Final Fantasy series, Star Ocean, Wild Arms, and of course, Arc the Lad. Yes, some of the finest vidcons in the world were created by Japanese. I come to you today to ask you in all earnesty, what is your favorite vidcon? I will reveal mine after the grand debate has illustriously begun, but not before the first poster falls victim to my plot of discussion.

In other words, this is a thread on an imaginary forum our avatars frequent. The topic can fluctuate, and its mostly just general discussion.

I've read stories about mercenaries capturing endangered Pokemon in the rainforest or savanna and selling them on the black market. It's just a cruel injustice that these people can get away with things like that.

Probably hold them for a ransom, as in force their friends or family to pay a hefty sum to get them back. And that's assuming they even keep their word, which I doubt they would.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mina_ashido_family_guy_11_26_22.png

Which is why it's always good to keep a low-profile. In my world, there's supposed to be a ranking of Pro Heroes and there's a number one spot, but even if I was technically number one I would not want to be featured there because I don't want to be the target of mercenaries kidnapping me as a result of that attention.

Wow, I didn't know mercenaries were really that bad where you lived. Here, the worst they do is typical soldier misconduct . . . Which honestly isn't much better.

Actually, wait, why would they even be getting ransoms & selling black market goods? Shouldn't they be busy fighting on the battlefield? Y'know, what mercenaries do?

I see. So mercenaries can have different motives and stuff, and the one that appeared in my nightmare were hostile ones. But there can be friendly ones too.

So I guess it depends on the person. That's kind of nuanced, now that I think about it.

Mercenaries are just a private citizens hired to do things that a state military would usually do. I believe bodyguarding falls under military work, Herr Aether, so that's not unusual.
Now, I don't know what military would be doing black market deals, but I could still see that happening.

On an unrelated note, one of my Questors finally arrested Count Granaio-Invernale (the guy who tried attacking a depot fortress last month). Well, the Questors aren't the continent's most famous law enforcement agents for nothing.

what kind of RAID security level does your doll database employ? If that's confidential, no need to tell me.

Technical stuff like this is beyond me, sorry. A Doll engineer probably would know.

[2]

Well, what do Tactical Dolls fight against?

That depends on what organization the T-Doll is attached to. For Griffin & Kryuger, we do whatever it is in the contract. Sometimes we root out terrorist cells, other times we cleanse an area from ELID infestation.

[3]

A pleasure to meet you, SCW! I am Tarvek Sturmvoraus, Prince of Sturmhalten. My friend here is Gilgamesh Wulfenbach, whom you may call "Gil." It sounds like you've posted this thread before we joined here.

Nice to meet you too! I have, yeah, but it's been so long.

So, what's this "Griffin & Kryuger Security Firm" you work with? From your words, it sounds like a sort of mercenary company. What happened for you to be labeled terrorists?

We're hired guns, yeah. It's a really long story, but the gist is that we were hired to take care of a rogue mercenary company. Then the military special forces took over the operations and stabbed us in the back. Apparently the whole contract was rigged or something? Anyway, the military brass' cover story is that our T-Dolls went berserk and attacked their forces, so the state branded us as terrorists.

[4]

Mercenaries? That sounds quite scary.

Sorry, am I frightening you? I didn't mean to.

Interesting. For further reference, what are the names of these enemies? Just so I'm not confused down the line if you talk more about your situation.

(OOC: I'm unfamiliar with Girls' Frontline lore, but an internet search leads me to think the rogues are SV & the government is the KCCO. Correct?)

I'm currently organizing a war effort, and all that backstabbing sounds like a headache to deal with. I'm just glad that most of the intrigue I've seen in our war has been behind enemy lines.

That's okay, it's okay to be scared of some things. Everyone has at least one fear. That's why I enjoy watching horror movies because I like to be scared sometimes.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mina_ashido_family_guy_11_26_22.png

Same here. Sometimes I watch horror movies with premises that are quite disturbing to me and hope that I kinda get nightmares in my sleep afterward, because Rule of Scary is fun.

A good horror movie about a killer psychopath on the loose can be fun to watch sometimes. But of course we have limits on what we can endure.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mina_ashido_family_guy_11_26_22.png

Of course. I bet there are horror movies too horrific for me to watch.

I'm getting strong Deus Ex vibes from that description. Haven't played any game from the series, but from what I've heard, the political chaos around Griffin & Kryuger that you've just described seems like it could fit in perfectly.

Next time someone asks me what GFL is about, I'll respond "Deus Ex: Anime Edition"

Anyways, speaking of mercenaries, I hope I won't ever be one... though the chances of it aren't zero, because I do have some combat experience.

[up][up][up][up] The rogue mercenaries are called Sangvis Ferri. They used to be a legit PMC just like us, but their T-Dolls suddenly rebelled and took over the company, which is where we stepped in

As for the military... I don't think I'm allowed to be more specific. Saying that we got backstabbed is already skirting the line.

I'm currently organizing a war effort, and all that backstabbing sounds like a headache to deal with. I'm just glad that most of the intrigue I've seen in our war has been behind enemy lines.

I'm sure my Commander had similar thoughts. Making decisions that affect so many people, especially when you don't know who to trust... Must be hard to bear that responsibility.

OOC: Correct on both, with the additional note that KCCO is only one branch of the New Soviet Union army. The infighting between factions in the Soviet military is an important part of GFL's politics.

[up] OOC: Metal Gear with more waifus is my go-to summary lmao

It's not exactly a prestigious job, that's for sure. Some of us became T-Dolls because there's nothing better. I hope you won't find yourself in a similar situation.

Haha, don't rule it out just yet.

How’s humanity holding up there? Because that ELID infestation sounds scary… surprised

Surprisingly fine when you consider the Beilan Island Incident and World War III. While most of Eurasia and North America are radioactive Red Zones, people still live in the relatively safe Yellow Zones, and there are concerted efforts to reclaim land for habitation.

ELIDs sound scary — and being radioactive bulletproof zombies, they kinda are, but frankly they're a minor threat in the scope of our work.

What does SCW mean anyway???

Mr. Kryuger wants all Griffin T-Dolls to be named after the weapon they're Imprinted with. In my case, it's the Colt Subcompact Weapon.

So about that document on Nikkes... It never occured to me that humans can be so prejudiced. At least Dolls are fully artificial, down to our neural clouds, but all Nikkes used to be humans too, right? How can they be so hateful to their own kind?

Well, everyone makes dumb decisions once in a while at least. It's okay because most of them try to improve and learn from their mistakes, but for the people who deliberately keep making those mistakes over and over again, I eventually lose respect for.

It's also that some people are also very malicious.
