^ Indeed. Looks like we'll have to add World of Badass to the main tropes page, then.

You know, I don't care about all the quicktime events or if the gameplay is a ripoff of God Of War.

THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!!!

I like the design in this game, especially on the hero. He's probably got about eighty tons of paper dedicated to concept art of him. A bit iffy on the color pallete though. Red and brown.

But a game's core is it's gameplay, and there's plenty of awesome looking Beat 'em Up action to behold. Plenty of interesting looking enemies too. QTE overload? Eh, they're probably just showing the flashiest parts of the game which inevitably be the ones you have the least control over.

Asura did say something about the world not being worth saving though. I really hope he's "just" a Anti-Hero and not a completely selfish Jerkass Villain Protagonist that ends up killing tons of innocent people in his revenge lust. That would make me lose interest in this game faster than making it a Commodore 64 exclusive.

I literally couldn't play the God Of W Ar games. I started playing the first one, and absolutely loved every minute of it. After i impaled the hydra on the mast of the freaking boat, i leapt into the air and yelled "I just impaled a giant hydra with a boat mast!" as could be expected of me. Then i heard the boat captain. I thought cool, i get to rescue him. Then Kratos kills him for no reason.

I was like grin then surprised then sad

Never has a good thing been lost to me so quickly.

[up]That was a defining character moment and a small taste of why the character is so popular.

I thought it was lame too.

I'm about halfway through Go W 1 right now. Mashmashmash, push the button that flashes on the screen... the only game in this style that I really like is Ninja Gaiden and it looks to be going down the tubes as well. What I've seen of Asura's Wrath doesn't look like it's bucking any trends, they just made the bosses bigger.

Unless the Batman games count. Batman: AA had great combat in spite of it being a minor aspect of the game, here's hoping they don't blow it in the new one.

I would like to hear this music from Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 in Asuras Wrath at some point (Being also made by cyber connect 2 helps).

Chikayo Fukuda has a very distinctive style. If you enjoyed the music in Dot Hack GU and their Naruto games, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Really, I was worried that the music might have been too similar from the first trailers alone. tongue

And the reason I have confidence in the way the game uses it's Quick Time Events? Well, I'll just post another Cyber connect 2 game sequence here:

Impressions!

And...

Gameplay!

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

Somewhat underwhelming to be honest. 2012 is still a ways to go, but I hope they tweak the game up a bit.

What I got from the trailers:

  • Boss battles consist of "phases" where your goal is to rack up enough... let's say "adrenaline", in order to proceed to the next boss phase.
  • "Running phases" which double as an on-rail shooter with QTE's.
  • Asura can shoot little fists as projectiles. Hopefully there will be more variety than just shooting pellets.

Complaints:

  • As expected, too easy. Very easy to pass from one phase to the next. Hopefully it was only because it was an early demo version, but I'm still concerned.
  • Repetitive QTE's worry me. Same reaction animation and responses.
  • Repetitive and fairly grating voices annoy me. Poor dialogue writing and lip syncing is also a minus.
  • Very cinematic based during the battles between phases, akin to God Of War. Battles do not seem to be more intense as they go on, being reduced to QTE's (sometimes singular).
  • NO MUSIC! Is it an E3 demo thing or was it intentional? Why is there no music?

Hopeful for:

  • Well it seems to avert Kratos-asshole syndrome, what with the rescue of his daughter being a better plot mover than, say, being constantly betrayed by various god factions.
  • I am actually excited for the multi-phase boss battle if it actually gets more difficult as the fight goes on. Hopefully they also make it more difficult to switch stages instead of just pressing R2 with full adrenaline whenever.
  • Less showing more playing! There's actually not much gameplay in the boss fight. Let me play more. I don't care if you just put in loads of QTE's but let me do something instead of just watching Asura.
  • The running segments can be done well and they should try to push on making those feel unique and fun. Not so much here but it looks like an interesting concept.

Overall: I expected more. sad Still hopeful that the final product will be more polished. Not falling off my radar, but not as excited as I was before.

Didn't mind The Lipsinking stuff.

And It is just demo gameplay. There will liekly be a lot of teaks if cyberconecct 2 listens to some criticism. They usually do.

And considering how much damage you take, it seems much harder than it looks.

Cyborg demi-god?

"Surprise" seems to be a big thing. I just hope that's not all there is to it. The guy mostly talked about the setting. He's quite reluctant on...pretty much everything else. Still miffed about difficulty. I hope this is just the cynic in me talking, but I'm slightly concerned.

Also, did anyone notice Asura punching the lasers back at the spaceship?

Yes, I did. And not every action game has to be completely difficult. I think the main difficulty will be about how the next thing you do after one thing takes you for a loop.

don't know about you guys, but I just saw an interview of the creaters of this game, and I'm a little worried, they said that they will "try to get this game out as fast as we can"(peraphrasing) that means that they might rush things.

Let's hope they won't the game has HUGE potential.

As Fast as they can in 2012, so its not that big of a deal. Besdes, they tend to make high quality games anyhow (Dot Hack, Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2) so I have no worries. And it won E3 2011's best action game for a reason.

God Of War + Asian Mythology

I would only be able to like this idea more if it was on the 360.

On the 360 and PS 3
