Bleh. Not only a sausage party, but a samey sausage party that are already friends. Character diversity went down the drain.
My reasons to purchase a next-gen console have gone down dramatically.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerYeah, I feel the same. I'm happy that I won a PS 4 because XV is really not selling me on the thought of buying one.
So there's been two games already where you can only play as female party members, and now we're getting one game where there's only male party members. Seems fine to me. The genders of the characters don't really matter though, we'll have to wait and see if they have interesting personalities/character traits. I rather like the restrained character designs though, the previous games were getting way too crazy with over the top costumes and outfits.
Okay, that's true. But the road trip angle is something new to the series.

What makes a good man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?Yeah, the key difference is how relaxed the journey seems to be. More often than not, it's a high stakes sort of thing: fighting the Empire, AVALANCHE on the run from Shinra, Yuna's pilgrimage, the l'Cie trying to deal with their focus, etc. If it's really just a straightforward, friendly road trip for a significant part of the story, it'll definitely be an interesting dynamic for the series to explore.
Of course since it's Final Fantasy, the stake'll climb well before the end, but still.
Yeah, on the scale of Dramatic Shit v Noctis & Friends and Their Personal Journey, this seems to be focusing more on Noctis & friends and personal journey. Not that the dramatic shit won't be important or skyrocket exponentially like Renewal said, but Noctis & Friends (we need a nickname for them) are the most important thing.
Like how FMA '03 was about Edward and Alphonse themselves, whereas Mangahood was about the more general people of Amestris (and Xing) coming together to create a better world. If I worded that in a way that makes sense.

I don't know how anyone could get a relaxed journey vibe from what we've seen so far. The footage has always been chaotic, urban areas in a full-scale invasion situation. Combined with Shimomura's epic-sounding score, the game seems anything but relaxed. It has a melancholic vibe at times, but there's nothing relaxing about it. In fact, it's very high on "dramatic shit".

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerThey're pretty laid-back in the driving scenes, though. Even the fights out in the wilderness come across as fun roughhousing rather than a desperate struggle.

Yeah, the latest trailer featured a lot of pretty relaxed driving sequences with sweeping vistas of the gorgeous overworld, and the party just chatting and taking in the sights. Since FFXV is going to be a helluva lot more open than XIII, chances are there's going to be a lot of said sequences as you travel everywhere. That's why we're wondering how long that's going to last.

I'm not sure how this is any different than every other JRPG party chatting when they come across an interesting area. It seems entirely basic and the game's stakes are definitely high.

That's just weird. Type-0 was already pretty clunky and only gave you two moves outside of your regular attack button. And you had the option to automatically avoid any enemy attack with zero input. How do you make that even more streamlined? Hell, type-0's AI was a travesty. It was absolutely awful, while XIII's auto-battle could easily clear the game.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerFrom interviews and such it seems like there will be an attack button, a defense button, magic button, run/roll button and such. Depending on your timing, location, setup (that appears to be a cross between XII-gambit system combined with Birth By Sleep) will determine exactly what the buttons will do when you press it.
He seemed to stress that timing is important and button mashing ala Dynasty Warriors would be bad and the menu is always available to switch out gambits and give direct orders.

Might have something to do with the setting and overall tone of the game. At times it almost feels like a group of IRL friends on a road trip, similar to what you'd see in a movie or something. not sure how to explain it any other way.
More diverse cast = more possibilities for more diverse interactions. And not just women either. Older or younger characters, hybrids, non-humans, etc. This one's far too incestuous for my tastes. Not helped by how their clothing just blends in.

Female Party Members in the Final Fantasy series:
Edit: The Journey and Friendship has always been a big part of FF.
