Provided it's not a fandom trope, does it actually have to be an actual canonical example? The picture we have on A-Cup Angst for instance isn't a canonical example either.
and that's how Equestria was made!^I'd say it's better for it to be canonical than not. And with something as commonly depicted as Cat Girl, we can find plenty of canonical examples.

Infinite Tree: an experimental story![]()
That's a little different because the line between Touhou Fanon and Canon is blurred to the point that basically Fanon = Canon unless ZUN specifically contradicts it. That and it's entirely possible that she is an example; with ZUN's art style it's kinda hard to tell. And on that page it was more a matter of that being the best picture by a long shot anyway. Image clarity trumps being an actual example, but if all other things are equal, we should use the picture that's an example.
Anyway, I don't think there's anything truly wrong with the current image, although there's no reason to use a picture that isn't an example when there are tons of pictures out there that are. So far, I like the Lethe picture the best.

We don't know if she's canonically flat or not because ZUN is incapable of drawing the characters in non-loli style. It's technically fanon, but it's near universally accepted, and in the Touhou fandom Fanon carries a lot of weight.
Touhou's canon/fanon distinction is just too trippy for that to be grounds for disqualifying an image.
Infinite Tree: an experimental storyAt any rate, let's get back on topic.
If there are acceptable canon Cat Girls then we don't need to stick with a fanon version.

Yeah, dogs don't have those kind of tails. Neither do foxes. There's no confusing them. Not to mention the name of the trope is Cat Girl. Sometimes I think Image Pickin' tries way too hard to see flaws.
