Just looks like an old man staring out into space.

I would suggest Bill, but he looks a little too Badass Grandpa.

In a lot of anime and video games, this makes him somewhere around middle age and the only non-clean shaven guy.

He fits perfectly.

Yoda? Dumbledore? Gandalf? Carl Fredericksen? There's a lot of examples for this trope.

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.

I like Auron. Those ([up]) suggestions all look like Badass Grandpa (except Yoda, who just looks nonhuman). I think the image should depict someone somewhat old, but not really old. Someone who might object to being described as old, heh.

Gandalf and Auron both work, but I prefer Auron. Isn't he basically designed to be a cool old guy even if he's really not that old?

Well, according to the trope page the Cool Old Guy is supposed to be more middle aged than actually old.

He's old enough for the trope. No reason to go for really old when the specific qualifications are things like "graying hair". The next question is whether or not he looks cool in that image, and this is just my opinion but I say he does. Much more obviously cool than most of the other images.

He is older than he looks (sort of), just like Gandalf. (Gandalf is like 10k years old or something)

I suppose Auron is good. I'd just like a better shot of him.

Its Relative age to the core characters so like a crew of 20 year olds someone who is 40 or so fits.

Maybe a group shot would be better?

I still think the first image works he is clearly older and looking bad ass though.

"It can also be the result of injury to the scalp."

Quote from that trope.. also adds to the coolness though since it shows he is battle hardened along with the scare to the face.

If we had one where Auron was actually kicking some ass or one where he's toasting the Sin monster that would be better.

Auron on Raso 2nd post looks good. Throwing another new option just in case, though.

(I would have loved if his face was more visible in 350 px size though. Here is the full-size RAW of the pic for those who want to try reducing it better)

How do we define "old, but not old enough to be a Badass Grandpa"?

Middle age? Salt and pepper hair, a little rugged, but not old.
