Not really an example if you know the work: Slasher Smile

See, I've always been a little uncomfortable about this image. Sure, it's a fairly decent visual depiction of the expression, but the Slasher Smile is supposed to indicate psychotic, bloodthirsty delight, whereas Gwynplaine grins like that because his face was rearranged by extensive torture. He is, as the caption mentions, actually a pretty nice guy. In short, this image depicts a Glasgow Grin, not this trope.

There's got to be plenty of other options out there that qualify better as legit examples - for instance, Alucard from Hellsing. So, further suggestions?

Laconic: "I smile because I'm going to hurt you."

From ImageLinks.Slasher Smile involving obviously malicious (imo) intentions: Jack from The Shining, Maxwell Edison (?) with hammer, Masato Kusaka from Kamen Rider Faiz.

Also Dr. Jekyll with a knife.

[up]Exactly. That's why Gwynplaine doesn't count.

Jekyll works best, I think.

I like Dr. Jekyll. The knife is a nice touch.

I suppose we can change it, but the current image is just so slashery and so good. Still, if we can find a decent picture that is an example, it's worth it.

[up][up] And Nicholson Joker and Comicbook Joker. The reasons for it vary, but the end results are the same.

Also Nicholson-Joker explicitly; and although the Joker's origin story varies a lot, it usually involves a chemical accident that results in "his mouth [being] permanently distorted into a large grin with bright red lips".

[up][up]It's not necessary for Comicbook-Joker. He's actually got quite a wide variety of expressions. See also, this famous set of panels.

Still, the character's tendency for Glasgow Grins in various adaptations does make him a little shaky.

I think I would like it more if we could tell that the person doing it is wielding a knife or something.

Jekyll's looks a little mild compared to Frollo's if you ask me. o.o

Frollo looks like he's smiling as he's being burned alive. Not like a real Slasher Smile. He's not actually doing anything evil. Then again, I've never seen the film.

Actually, he's smiling as he's burning someone else alive. Flames in front of him do not imply being on fire. Perhaps another frame of animation may be better suited if it makes that clearer... here's the context which is really only a couple of seconds long.)

In any case, let's see what others' interpretations of the Frollo one are.

If you need to link videos for context, it's a bad example.
