IIRC Bardiche is a searcher that also has an effect related to DARK xys monsters. Orcust and Lunalight had been using it to get their RUM spell (which is also banned) to get to Azathot (also banned) or stunlock the opponent out of their monster effects.

Makes sense, Azathot and Tiger are banned and I think Orcus also got some hits.

the main draw of bardiche is that it kickstarts a combo that lets you set two fog blades from your deck on it's own, and it's very easy to make it, meaning any deck that can make it just got +2 monster negations on it's end board.

Regarding Ice Barrier I think they might be better served if

A: They have a way to spam their monsters for their lockdown effects or synchro summoning

and/or B: had more of an Anti WATER/LIGHT/DARK/FIRE/EARTH Dragon focus, being to non WIND Dragons what Allies of Justice were trying to be to LIGHT monsters (the blind so it is in refernce to Dragunity)

It also would've helped if the Dragons weren't tied to the archetype as it implies an obligation to be able to summon them despite that the lore states the Ice Barrier tribe as the wardens to what is basically 3 Armageddons on legs.

The idea would've been that the Ice Barrier are tailor made to counter Trish and her siblings, and would had ensured that they also have more playable cards formats after their introduction (such as Dragon Ruler format)

Alas, option B isn't an option bar an overhaul Leaving Option A is the best route they could take.

...Well, now to post the big list on here.

  • Effective: September 14th, 2020(TCG)
  • The next list update will be no sooner than December 14th, 2020.

  • FORBIDDEN

    • Block Dragon
    • Jet Synchron
    • Mecha Phantom Beast O-Lion

  • LIMITED

    • Double Iris Magician
    • The Phantom Knights of Rusty Bardiche
    • Called by the Grave
    • Harpie’s Feather Duster

  • SEMI-LIMITED

    • Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
    • Graff, Malebranch of the Burning Abyss
    • ABC-Dragon Buster
    • Toadally Awesome

  • UNLIMITED

    • Makyura the Destructor
    • Tour Guide From the Underworld
    • Evigishki Gustkraken
    • Pantheism of the Monarchs
    • Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor

Now for my thoughts. Makyura's erratum is bleh, but I can honestly use it in some kind of build with Warriors. Mostly for summoning options. Like Call of the Haunted after a combo with Isolde. It's not that great. Bardiche I bought right before it was banned, and now can make a good stun deck again as an option with it. HFD I have been waiting for years, but it makes sense it didn't come back till after the new backrow clearing cards were done selling. I considered it a when, not an if. Awesome I want to run 3 of, but 2 is fine for my Water.dek. Not Mermails, just Normal etc. I do need to get more Tin Goldfish, and the Level 4 Water Fusion. Though if I can figure out some Level 5 easy to summon Waters, besides Normals, Instant Fusion still works thanks to A Legendary Ocean. Also, TGU is a big deal for me since I can revive an old Monarch Knight deck of mine. Maybe. I don't know Links, nor Thousand-Eyes Restrict(to clarify, it was used via Metamorphosis, not Instant Fusion, and I can remove Heavy Storm for Harpie's Feather Duster easily).

That said, Harpie's Feather Duster is either in Legendary Duelists Season 2(which might cover LED 3 and 4?) or Maximum Gold, making it a perfect timing to unban. I do hope Lightning Storm is reprinted before the next tins, though.

Actually on the subject of Maximum Gold, that leak a while back had Harpie's Feather Duster and Rusty Bardiche on it, which is rather interesting now given the current banlist changes.

[up] I guess so. I mean, if you stop the field spell then you've pretty much stopped the play, which is fairly easy considering the amount of hand traps/spell negation.

Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon gets banned in OCG just as TCG start getting the card, lol

Interesting to see Called by the Grave getting hit in both format, although the hit is harder in TCG.

The main reason i heard for Called getting limited is to allow Hand Trap to be use against combo deck when go second. Called plus the new cards make it harder to run hand trap.

I was expecting Red-Eyes Fusion banned over Dragoon, but hey, the issue is gone, regardless.

REDMD just can't seem to leave the limited list. Might be some plays I'm missing. Yes, it shouldn't be summonable from the deck and all(a huge part of what made it ridiculous), but I doubt it'd do anything in the OCG. TCG only has a slight difference with Elpy not banned at most?

I was curious about Nadir Servant, since it's a card I'd never heard of before (also, is there a Zenith Servant?).

And I looked at its effect, and it made me realize a certain category of effect that could work as a combo starter or extender for Nemesys. So I searched that effect type on Yugipedia... and I think I found a card that blows that archetype WIDE OPEN. I'm gonna run some tests before I report back.

I don't think they would ban Red-Eye Fusion. it actually a pretty fair card in it own deck, just that Dragoon simply too strong. Without it Red-Eye fusion deck kinda die.

It's not really a fair card to begin with. Being able to instantly fusion summon while using materials from deck without an activation clause(not a more or less mediocre during this turn effect in practice) is a huge deal. At least Shaddoll Fusion required the opponent to have a monster outright summoned from the extra deck, which would've been all REF needed to completely dismantle every issue it could make. It was a ticking time bomb from the start. Dragoon only made it worse design than it already is.

It's much more likely to be banned in the TCG too, since it's an easier hit to make, and also significantly kills the problem. They also didn't even reprinted Muddy Mudragon, the only other reliable way to summon Dragoon. Keep in mind that REF gave you two instant ways to get to Dragoon as is; itself or Anaconda. That made it the common part of how easy it was to get out. And keeping in mind they did hit REF in the first place along with Dragoon shows it's clearly not something they consider "fair" to begin with. There's clear proof they saw it as a problem in the grand scheme of things.

Weird that Nadir Servant is hit after a month, but it's an Extra Deck Foolish Burial, so I guess it's understandable.

REF locks you out of all other summons for the turn when used normally, which seems pretty fair if you're summoning Dragoon. Plus it's not too scary on its own

Anaconda is the real problem because it's a completely generic Link-2 for some reason and lets you duplicate any Fusion Spell in the game. It's just begging to be abused more in the future.

I was right. I didn't know it was OCG only a the moment, but... Link Apple makes Nemesys ridiculous if you have an all Link Extra Deck. I can easily see this getting banned just for its use in Nemeses alone, let alone anything else. But apparently it's been out for a year already in Japan? Maybe it's because none of the below combos have inherent negates.

It's a level 1 Cyberse, so it can be searched relatively easily. I'm going to need to rework my deck a bit to maximize potential. But if you're running Storm Dragon's Return, use it on Link Apple in your opponent's End Phase, and you can do these combos two turns in a row.

Here's the plays I thought of:

Option 1- Link Apple and Nemeses Protos in hand (and no other monsters in hand, field or grave):

  • Special summon Apple using its own effect. Doesn't matter what you banish, so long as you have two Linkuribohs in your Extra Deck to start with.
  • Link summon Linkuriboh using Apple.
  • Link Summon Secure Gardna using Linkuriboh.
  • Special summon Nemeses Protos using the FIRE, DARK, and LIGHT monsters you just summoned.
  • Use Protos' effect, either on your opponent's main Attribute, or DARK with Protos.
  • You now have immunity to effect damage for the turn, a 3000 DEF monster that can't be destroyed by card effect, and have locked your opponent out of special summoning an Attribute for their turn.

Option 2 - Link Apple and Nemeses Eschatos in hand (and no other monsters in hand, field or grave):

  • Special Summon Apple using its own effect. Depending on what is banished:
    • If you still have Relinquished Anima:
      • You can special summon it, and possibly steal an opponent's monster.
      • There may be a non-Cyberse, non-Spellcaster monster Anima can link up to on its own, and if so, you have everything to summon Nemeses Eschatos using the Cyberse, Spellcaster, and [ ] monsters you just summoned.
      • Use Eschatos' effect to lock your opponent out of special summoning either Dragons or one of their own Types for the turn.
    • If you don't have Anima, you can still go into Linkuriboh > Secure Gardna, or figure out something else.

Option 3 - Link Apple, Nemeses Flag, and any face up banished monster:

  • If you use Crossout Designator to banish another card face up, banish your own Ash Blossom in deck to prevent your opponent from stopping you.
  • Special summon Apple using its own effect.
  • Special summon Nemeses Flag using its own effect.
  • Use Nemeses Flag to search out any other low level Nemeses.
  • Special summon it using its own effect.
  • You can use the other Nemeses effect if you want, but regardless you can now Link 3, at least.

Note that none of the above allow for Nibiru OR use your Normal Summon

Option 4 - Link Apple and any low level Nemeses:

  • Special summon Apple using its own effect.
  • Special summon the other Nemeses using their own effect. You now have two monsters special summoned at zero cost.
  • Use the Nemeses monster's effect if you want. This can also bait out a monster effect negation.
  • Link 2 into whatever you want.
  • If you're running the Link Charmers, you now have material to summon Hiita or possibly any of the others, and possibly use their effect.
    • Whichever Link Charmer you summoned, if it gets destroyed, you can now search any lower level Nemeses.
    • If you summoned Hiita, and it gets destroyed (including by ramming), you can search out Nemesys Flag, who itself can search out any other Nemeses.
    • Whatever you search, you can still normal summon it, since you haven't used your normal summon yet.

Option 5 - Link Apple and any other monster.

  • Special summon Apple using its own effect.
  • Do whatever else you want with your other monsters.
  • Link 2 into whatever you want.
  • If you summoned Hiita:
    • If it gets destroyed (including by ramming), you can search out Nemeses Flag.
    • Since you still have a banished monster, you can special summon Nemeses Flag.
    • You can now search, summon, and use Nemeses Eschatos, since you have a Cyberse, Spellcaster, and Pyro monster on the field or in your graveyard (in addition to whatever your other monster was.

Anaconda is completely worthless without REF in the combo.

And Dark Dragoon + backrow is a very game-winning combo. We're just lucky we got HFD back right now to eliminate part of that issue. ...You know, if it couldn't negate any one card, anyway. And something it cannot do with REF gone(since they'd have 2 backrow at most, instead of up to 4).

So in the end, the only bannable cards were going to be REF or Dark Dragoon. Anaconda was never a proper option to ban within the combo. It'll be dumb in the future, but it's the weakest part of the Dragoon-REF-Anaconda combo by far.

Moving on, though, I hope we get the Maximum Gold spoiler soon. Especially as I plan to get a full case. If HFD is really in there, I should pull... eh, 3? At best? It'll be an obvious short print. Rusty Bardiche I don't know if there's a good way to use him outside of BA at this point. Maybe I can figure out a way to use it in my Battle Pack deck.

The remakes of the Attribute Boosters like Missus Radiant, the Charmer remakes. Those are pretty good. Halquifrax is good in its own way, though there's not a lot of Tuner options anymore...

There's others, but they might be too deck specific now? Like Isolde is.
