The current image is of a person asking if we would have allowed Nazis to host the Olympics and a caption that said we did. The problem with that is whoever put it up Did Not Do The Research, the IOC did not infect give it to them the games were awarded to the Weimar Republic in 31. While it is Common Knowledge that the Nazi were in charge when it happened and used the games as propaganda, they were not the ones selected to host, but took over the country from them.

The IOC still allowed them to host. The question is "Were the Nazis allowed to host the Olympics?" not "Were they awarded the Olympics?"

I don't quite get the point here. The caption linked to the 1936 Winter and Summer Olympic games pages on wikipedia, and according to those pages (assuming no vandalism), both were in Germany while it was run by the Nazis. Isn't that the definition of letting them host the Olympic games?

Wow, I don't mean to get all meta here, but based on Madrugada's reasoning and Wikipedia facts, it seems like the OP's declaration of Critical Research Failure on the Critical Research Failure's image was, in of itself, a Critical Research Failure. Let's see if we can Quadruple Subvert it for next time.

Out of curiosity, what are the people in that image actually protesting? About the only thing I can think of that would fit is hosting the Olympics in Moscow/East Germany.

Belief or disbelief rests with you.

[up][up]No, if we're being technical, this is a case where it was assumed that the picture was Accidentally Accurate, but that assumption itself was incorrect because of the wording of the phrase. There was no Critical Research Failure at any point in the process, and not even a Did Not Do The Research.

[up][up] In that case, I call Quadruple Subversion on myself! [lol]

But anyway, unless the image is incorrect in any way, don't change it. Suggesting Lock Up?

I don't think it's a rather critical research failure. It's more general Did Not Do Research than anything else. CRF implies cursory knowledge of the subject proves it wrong.

Fight smart, not fair.

Locking up the thread. There's no error or research failure in the caption. There is a research failure shown in the picture — the person who made the sign didn't know that the Nazis were allowed to host the Olympics.
