Hm, I've played 64 a lot. (damn it I can never get the vineyard done right D:<) And I played Back to Nature once and loved it...But I can't seem to find it anywhere. And it's a wonderful life.
That reminds me I need to dust of the 64 and play it again. I keep choosing Karen out of habit but I wanna play a game where he goes after another character instead.
Real Life rwby rose: If you are playing Fo MT, then I can tell you those are all liiiiies. ...Or people with their minds stuck in 64. No difference in wives at all in FOMT.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaYeah, I recall that no wives in FoMT gave particular benefits. Does Harvest Moon seem fairly susceptible to Urban Legend of Zelda to other people? I seem to recall a whole FAQ full of misinformation on 64 back in the day. (Talking about a second photo album and the kids around town growing up.) There's also the whole Chihuahua thing in AWL. I haven't kept up with the guides and rumors in quite a while, though.
Hey, I don't think I just like 64 out of Nostalgia Filter. In general, I wouldn't expect anyone to be blown away by any Harvest Moon game; the enjoyment (or lack thereof) tends to come from the little things that crop up. Some elements were done better in later games, but I would also argue that other elements were done worse.
Text I feel is necessary to append to every post.I think it does. At the very least, I think any game with a perma-infant child will spawn "Your child will grow up" rumors, for example.
And now I really want to play Cute some more. Because in that game your child can become a teenager, and I want to see that happen.
Hilariously, I think if my Felix grew up all the way, he'd end up looking like the Felix in Grand Bazaar.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaAh, okay. Shouldn't listen to these rumors. >> After I marry someone in Fo MT, I may stop playing the game. I'm very eager to play Cute.
"Without a fairy, you're not even a real man!" ~ Mido from Ocarina of TimeIf you're ever ensure about anything in the Harvest Mooniverse, generally, Ushi no Tane will set you straight. :D
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaI can't decide who I want to marry in Animal Parade. It's either Luke, Owen, Toby, or Calvin. Calvin and Owen are pretty good looking, but Toby is very cute and lovable. Plus he loves to fish, like me!
I wish Bo was an option though...
I liked the SNES game, but I don't really care for Tree Of Tranquility.
@Freezair: Thanks for the website. ^^ It's been very useful so far. I've already bookmarked it for future reference.
"Without a fairy, you're not even a real man!" ~ Mido from Ocarina of TimeMy sister and I generally keep one tab open on UNT whenever we play an HM game. Useful, it is!
I personally really love Calvin (I married him, after all), so of course I'd suggest him. But I'm thinking of splitting my save file into my free slot, using that for New Game Plus, and marrying Wizard/Gale, too. But then again, everybody marries Gale (he's like the most popular choice after Chase), and I usually gravitate toward the weirdest of the bachelors. (I married Rick in M Fo MT, Carter in Cute, Shea in Sunshine, and if I ever get a new memory card so I can play Cube stuff again, I might just buy Magical Melody and marry either Bob or Basil.)
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaThe one thing I really liked about 64 that I don't think has ever really been repeated properly was the festivals. They made a nice change of pace, with either a little minigame, a competition, or just a chance for some unique social interaction. Some of the later ones don't have festivals at all, while others just don't manage to capture the same spirit as 64 did. But then again, it's impossible to separate Nostalgia Filter from that sort of thing, so maybe I'm talking out of my ass.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.Nostalgia Filter can be a problem. I think the reason I hated Magical Melody was because it wasn't like my first Harvest Moon game (A Wonderful Life). I found the atmosphere that had originally drawn me in lacking. The game probably isn't bad, it was just most likely my nostalgia kicking in.
Also, I'm about to play Cute in a little bit after finally having time to play it. College makes me so busy...I can't wait to start.
"Without a fairy, you're not even a real man!" ~ Mido from Ocarina of TimeI have about 35k in Animal Parade. I'm so happy. I now have two ducks, a chicken, two cows, and a sheep. I need to save up my money so I can get a bigger barn and get more animals.
Just popped in Tree of Tranquillity and started a new game. Damm, tutorial is long.
Oh well, just harvested my first potatoes, and made a bit of money from the mines. That should give me a bit of starting capital, to say the least.
Though I'm probably better off saving cash for the flower festival, and buy all the fertilizer I wasn't supposed to be getting just yet.
The Wii games have the more "involved" festivals, with competitions and such. To T even has mini-games, IIRC.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaYeah the festivals are really great in the Wii games. Rune Factory also has very fun festivals. Within the last four years or so Harvest Moon has really begun to turn the series from simulation to role playing, in a way. Bigger plots, better characters, better writing, etc. Instead of "this is your ranch, take care of it", it's "this is your new home, meet people, craft relationships, earn a living, and raise a family while helping out with the plot".
Agreed on the Wii festivals. I really dig how it provides opportunities to buy rare items long before you are supposed to, such as the mentioned fertilizer.
What I also like about the Wii games is that new people move in over time. Makes the community a whole lot more interesting then the static character roster we were used to.
What I don't like is how they made mining so stupendously easy, yet annoying. In Tree of Tranquillity, mining is the Goddamned Bats of HM activities. Still beats the crap out of the mining system used in Island of Happiness, which was simply impossible to work with without Save Scumming.

Mining is just such a complete bore, especially in the Wii games. In Rune Factory 2 you got at least something for every rock you mined. It took forever to complete the Red Bell quest in Animal Parade simply because I couldn't find any gold!
With so many girls Im sad I have to pick only one. Yes Im lame

With the power of a dragon I can make up for my inability to spill.Harvest Moon: Mormon Edition?
Exactly. It was both boring and annoying because of low drop rates of stuff you actually want, crazy gas effects, and pitfalls/geysers.
Come to think of it, mining has ALWAYS been a drag. Except in Rune Factory *, where it was more integrated in your daily activities of plant crops, brush livestock, kill monsters.
It's called replay value. though I'm pretty stumped on who to marry on my To T game. Kathy and Anissa seem cool, and Candace is plain Adorkable.

Oh god, I hate the gas effects. The mines are always like an excuse to turn it into some Mystery Dungeon game. Also, you always choose the adorkable one. That's why I'm going to marry Toby in my first playthrough. :P
I think on my New Game +, I'm going to choose Owen. He's actually kinda cute...I like his muscles! =D
Playing Animal Parade. I'm still near the beginning and have to give a guy some food because he is too hungry to repair the bridge. He wants milk and a strawberry. Strawberry. A strawberry, as in one strawberry. What kind of metabolism does that guy have? I know, videogame logic and all, but really, WHAT THE FUCK!?
I seem to be more productive at the game than I'm with the others. I already plan to buy animals (and sowed grass), while I always waited quite some time before I even bought a chicken.
People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.Animal Parade is the best Harvest Moon game. Pro-tip: Speaking to the guys down at Horn Ranch will net you a free baby calf! Use this if you have any problems!
I hear Karen isn't a good wife though. I also hear that Popuri helps you on the farm, so it's a conundrum. Right now I'm leaning towards Elli, but she'd have to work all the time.
