The redesigns do make sense when it comes to Divergent Character Evolution. The new designs fit the BTN characterizations better. For example, Karen's punky design fits her angrier 64 version more than it does her Cool Big Sis BTN/FOMT version. Karen and Cliff lost their blond tips because they aren't related to Eve, while Gray has blond hair instead of red because he isn't related to Ann and Rick anymore.

I still wish the designs weren't so divergent though. Karen should wear pink and Ann in a cute dress is so weifd after years of her being an overall-wearing tomboy.

The Best Friends system is back in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. You can "best friend" same gender characters.

Well, at least Ann is shown wearing pants under her dress, so it's not like she's been totally girlified.

I'm really excited for this remake. Fo MT is one of my favorite games in Harvest Moon, and while I do have some reservations about the new designs, I'm not gonna let that stop me from enjoying the game.

I am fine with most of the bachelor/ette redesigns, but Karen, Gray, and Doctor's rub me the wrong way.

Karen's Girliness Upgrade makes sense since she's not 64!Karen but it's just so deviant. It doesn't even look like Karen. They outright changed her colour scheme. Likewise, removing Gray's hat is a no-no. Gray's hat is iconic and it fits him as something he can hide behind... Doctor just looks oddly bland. He was the stand-out bishonen of the original, but now he's the most generic of the bachelors. It's a bad sign when Rick is more attractive than you.

Doraemon: Story of Seasons is out internationally (though digital-only in NA). Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is out in Japan, China, and probably a few other Asian regions.

The new SOS seems good. It has some bugs but I expect those to be ironed out in updates (and hopefully the English version just outright lacks them).

Edit:

The JPN version has an English script. Some are speculating that XSeed will reverse Natsume's Dub Name Changes. "Ran" instead of "Ann" and "Marie" instead of "Mary" are the main two.

I have heard speculation that XSeed can't (won't?) use certain terms like "Harvest Goddess", because Natsume has veto on them. I'm not sure if that's true, though. I'm still waiting for FOMT news.

I think that would mostly depend on whether "harvest goddess" is a straight literal translation of the term used in the original Japanese game, or a Woolseyism invented by Natsume. The latter (like the name Harvest Moon to begin with) would be something Natsume could copyright, the former not so much.

[up] Can you really copyright "Harvest Goddess"? It's a pre-existing concept.

Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is using the original Japanese names. "Ran" instead of "Ann", "Yuu" instead of "Stu", "Marie" instead of "Mary", etc.

FOMT has surpassed 200k copies sold. It's selling better than the original. According to the Famitsu sales data of the original, FOMT sold 161k. However, if you factor in lifetime sales of MFOMT, both games together sold 270k copies.
