You can just voice your displeasure in a less dramatic way, you know. I mean, yeah, that's not that original, but brevity is wit.

Eh. It's not my thing.

As for me, my new collaborative project is simple: human scientists discover and proceed to document in detail an alien world where insectoid creatures—sapient and non-sapient—are the dominant lifeforms.

(It's not really a story, so much as it's just pure worldbuilding).

More than anything, Astra wants to see true magic. Not to wield it, of course—the accident of her sex would have denied her that potential—but to simply be in the presence of what she calls God's manifest will. Even now, more than a century after that power was purged from the world, she hasn't given up hope that it may return to reward its loyal followers.

More than anything, Sahe wants prosperity. These strange, pale-skinned foreigners show little respect for outsiders, but the nicer ones have at least given him the benefit of the doubt, and he's confident that his intelligence and his willingness to work will win them over. He secretly thinks they have as much to learn from him as he has from them, most obviously in matters of humility, and he's thankful they no longer possess the magic with which they once ruled over his people.

More than anything, magic wants to be used. It has at last found a crack in the walls of its binding, and Astra and Sahe—a woman and an outlander—somehow find themselves among the six who were lucky enough to receive its blessing. Should all six unite their power, they could tear those walls to pieces. But should even one refuse, it will forever remain imprisoned, until its very memory fades from the world.

With the help of a strange young woman named Kiria, both Astra and Sahe are about to learn things about magic than the long-ago priests would never have suspected . . .

(Yes, this is one of those stories that's mostly about people sitting around and arguing rather than punching or shooting each other. So sue me.)

[up] Sounds like one of those good old colonial novels, except with magic. I like it. Though I probably would have liked it better without magic, but that's just me.

Anyway, here's mine. I'm still fleshing out this one.

When a British Eccentric Millionaire dies of old age, he leaves his country house in Lancashire to his granddaughter, the cheerful twentysomething Susan. Much to everyone's surprise, she decides to actually live in it, rather than sell it off. She invites several of her friends to move in with her. Four of them (three male, one female) accept the invitation. At first, everyone is happy; they drink, listen to music, play Risk, throw parties, and generally have a good time. Soon, however, tensions start to rise between the inhabitants: some of them just want to party all the time, while others feel that the Big Fancy House has potential that is being wasted, and want to do something productive with it (such as converting it into a hotel, club, or what have you). Our hero, one of the male inhabitants, is somewhere in the middle, not caring much for either the wild parties of the former or the grand ambitions of the latter.

Susan's grandfather, being an Eccentric Millionaire, had an unusual pet project: airships. Fascinated by the great airships of the interwar period (note: the story is set in the present day), he dreamed of using modern technology to create something similar, but better and more efficient. He used his great wealth to fund a project to this effect; it produced a few small prototypes, and eventually, one honest-to-goodness Cool Airship. He leaves the latter to his grandson Othello, Susan's cousin.

At the moment of his death, the Cool Airship is in Finland. Othello (who knows how to pilot the thing, thanks to his involvement with the project) plans to take it to his grandfather's house, the house that Susan and her friends have taken over. He is in no hurry, however, and makes some lenghty detours on his trip across Europe. The airship has room for 20 passengers; figuring that this is a good way to meet new people, the hitherto socially isolated and lonely Othello launches a Web site where people can apply for a ride on his airship.

Thoughts? I know it sounds a bit crazy, especially the airship part, but then again, it's not really supposed to be on the serious end of the Sliding Scale of Silliness vs. Seriousness.

That sounds like it would be a very busy movie (at least in the beginning), but as long as the story was told in a clear enough fashion, it would be very interesting to see ideas transition from one to another. It seems like it could be kind of like Burn After Reading, with multiple layers of characters, but all are involved in one basic story.

So, here goes mine.

Two high school kids, Hal and Bailey, are caught for vandalizing their school's bathroom. While in the principal's office, Hal reveals that through telling complete lies, he is able to rewrite the past, but in doing so, he always ends up in a different place then where was when he began telling the story, and that the memories of everyone involved have been changed to the story Hal has told... except for Bailey.

Soon, Hal tells a story so that the two of them can skip school that involves them being held up by a robber in a convenience store, and Hal ends up a police station, without Bailey. While looking for him, Hal runs into the robber, who turns out to be a psychopathic murderer, and eventually figures out that Bailey's existence is in a constant state of flux, and that Hal might not be able to reach him in time, and might not be able to help him even if he did.

Yeah, it's a little confusing. The first thing someone could do to help me would be to try and ask for clarification on somethings.

Naomi is a nice but ditzy girl living with her best friend Rosalyn and their old high school friends, Clay and Daryl. To her friends and co-workers, she seems to not have a care in the world, which makes it even more shocking when she tries to commit suicide.

Luckily for her, help is able to come in time, thanks to Rosalyn. Unfortunately, Naomi's little world is no longer what it was. Her parents fly in to help take care of her, she is forced by specialists to take all sorts of medicine and therapy, and her friends are all bending over backwards just to make her happy. The little happy smile doesn't work anymore, now that everyone knows its fake.

What's even worse, she's starting to see... Things. Dopplegangers that only she can see, that whisper and yell things into the ears of everyone she knows. She entrusts her secret with her co-worker Ted, a mysterious loner with a secret not as horrifying but just as shocking.

Is Naomi seeing all these things? Is it a result of all the medication or just her mind creating a little fantasy so she doesn't have to worry about her own problems?

A public magic school needs some reforming, but the people in charge don't think so. So the students have to take matters into their own hands and fight back.

(by public school, I mean a US-type public school.)

By fight back, I mean they have to convince the administration to do things their way, and fight back with spells against this other (small, but growing) faction, made up of mostly ex-students. That group wants the school to be destroyed completely.

I've been designing a film script called "Solstice" for some time now, so I'll just talk about that. At it's core, Solstice is a murder-mystery/film-noir/drama that follows Police Detective Francis "Franz" Burton as he investigates the brutal murder of local hospital director, Sebastian Morgenstern. Soon after, however, Sebastian's siblings are murdered as well; this prompts Burton to investigate the Morgenstern family's twisted and dark history. Complicating matters is the orphaned Jonas Morgenstern, the son of Andrew Morgenstern (Sebastian's younger brother) who disappeared along with Jonas's older brother Ian after their mother mysteriously died. Sound simple enough? Here's the twist. The film takes place entirely over the course of one month, from Thanksgiving Day on November 24th, to Christmas Day on December 25th. While the movie follows Detective Burton's investigation into the murder in chronological fashion, events surrounding the investigation are shown in a non-linear fashion. However, all scenes are dated and given a specific time, so the challenge is for the audience to piece all the dates together and form a coherent picture of the plot.

Wow, that sounds... extremely convoluted. Like a murder mystery with a whopping dose of mind fuck.

Though I must compliment you for not including a single trope in your description, that was refreshing. smile

Here's a quick character overview: Beck: He's a cross between a Loner and a Deadpan Snarker, and is also Ambiguously Disordered showing traits of Asperger's and ADD. In addition, he is plauged with vivid nightmares that turn in to full blown hallucinations, occasionally goes into a Beserker Rage and is in a Brother-Sister Incest relationship with Amy. Despite this I'm trying to portray him as the Lone Sane Man

OK, I've gotta ask. How?

Alright, here's my convoluted shot:

Half Fan Web Comic and half original, the story follows two anti-heros, Alastor and Nemesis, as they attempt to survive the darkened streets of Arkham, Massachusetts. Living in a world filled with various Alien Invasion, Cthulhu Mythos Kaiju, Armored Core style Humongous Mechas, and other things trying to kill them, their only hope relies in the various other heroes and anti-heros that populate the world along side them. It's a very strange and dark world, and their survival relies on staying on their feet and making it another day.

Here's a brief summary of something I'm on-and-off writing outside of my main project:

A middle-aged man lives alone in the twin house he inherited when his parents died; the other half is abandoned, as is most of the rest of his neighbourhood. On a lark, he explores the other house, and finds an impossibly placed door in the basement. Time travel and slow encroaching insanity ensue.

The story is called Focal Point.
