Even though it hasn't come out yet, there's still Legend of Korra to look forward to.
Completely in agreement for The Mighty B.
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction. The problem with calling the date at 2009 is that people have been calling shark-jump since about 2002 when Zim was canceled.
The point I was trying to make is that Nickelodeon doesn't entirely suck now. Sure, there are some crap shows on, but there always have been from someone's perspective. And yeah, it's a shame the old shows don't get the recognition they deserve, but it's not like that's a new thing. Pinwheel, which was the entirety of Nick's output for two straight years and then a regular show for ten years afterwords, stopped rerunning about two years after it ended in 1990 and was never mentioned again—does that mean Nick started sucking in 1992? Even the logo change can't be an indicator or else Nick started sucking in 1984.
What I'm really getting at is that Nick can still be counted on to get something right. So we can either bash it for producing a few bad shows and not giving us some classic DV Ds and therefore assume it completely sucks, or we can take the good with the bad and let ourselves put some faith in it. I for one am looking forward to seeing what happens on August 11th.
(Besides, in the age of the DVR, does it really matter when Rocko is on? Either record it and watch it later or stay up until 3.)
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

There is no good on current Nick. There hasn't been anything good since Avatar ended. And I only count Avatar because I'd be shot and/or not taken seriously if I were to say my real opinion that there's been nothing good since Danny Phantom, since I think Avatar's a mediocre show trying way too hard to be anime.
Tell me, how old were you in 2004?
That might explain it.
Seriously, it's just your opinion. Relax. I, personally, like Avatar and am not particularly fond of Danny Phantom. I can understand why someone might not, though.
Which shows specifically have you seen that you think are so vile?

Fanboy and Chum Chum, Mighty B, ANY live action show they've aired, The X's, that wrestling thing, Tak, Catscratch (which was okay, and had potential but utterly derailed itself from the comic)... And Avatar but again, that's just mediocre and trying too hard to be anime. I have nothing against trying to be an anime, and when done right, it can be great. Avatar just wasn't.

In 2004, I was 12. So, old enough to remember how great Nick was in the 90's and early 2000's.
Also, not all the live actions shows are terrible. The current ones, sure. But Drake & Josh was ok, I liked All That even after they got a completly new cast, and the Amanda Show was pretty good. These days, I only watch Nick for Tuff Puppy and re-runs of The Nanny.

But apparently you're okay with Back At The Barnyard, Wayside, The Penguins Of Madagascar, Planet Sheen, and Angelica and Susie's Pre-School Daze? Because even though those are the most obvious, you failed to mention them.
I believe their aim for starting the 3 original Nicktoons was to prove to other networks that you can get an audience with cartoons that were vastly different than what we seen before at the time. The Eastern European independent animation style in Rugrats was unknown to mainstream audiences, and John K.'s humor was not respected at all before Ren & Stimpy. But the cartoons that followed didn't really introduce anything new after that.
Just to turn the question around: If there's an era of Nick that I genuinely miss, it'd be 1985-1987, when most of their shows were Canadian or Japanese, and there were no Nicktoons yet. Second is roughly 1991-1995 (high school for me), when the first Nicktoons were on.

Back At The Barnyard always struck me as a show that was completely hilarious but had absolutely no right to be.
Penguins is pretty funny. Sometimes. Back and forth. It never gets bad, though.
There's an Angelica and Susie show?

They made four episodes in 2005, each of them aired once three years later before being used as bonus feautes on those "Tails from the Crib" DV Ds.
So, wait...they have enough faith in the franchise to release two direct-to-DVD feature-length films, but not enough to release actual DV Ds of the show? The hell?

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. Were Dv D boxsets common when Rugrats was popular? Rugrats used to be a total jugernaut before Sponge Bob was.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianDV Ds had been around since at least the late 1990s, but didn't become a big thing until 2003—a year before Rugrats was canceled.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.About the "when Nick started sucking" thing, its all about age. From an adult's perspective, Nick always sucked. Ask my mom, lol. So, I would assume that for each person, Nick started to suck when they started developing more mature interests. For me, that was like 2002, 2003 or so- I was in middle school and started watching more "grown up" tv like MTV and The Simpsons (lol, yeah, I know...) So yeah, some younger tropers are gonna cite later dates, and older ones are gonna cite earlier ones. Case in point, the troper who mentioned the late 80s being great on Nickelodeon. I wouldn't know, I was born in 1990. Ask an eight year old today what's good on Nick, he'll tell you. @ the troper who said they liked Danny Phantom and New-cast All That, obviously you're younger than me-I thought those shows sucked. But then again, you I'm sure thought things that came out a few years after Danny were awful.
It's funny, I wanted to bring that up but was afraid of being accused of invoking Animation Age Ghetto and ruling out Periphery Demographic.
My personal theory is that it comes with age, but not in the traditional sense. I, personally, dislike the argument that kids shows only entertain the young because they're fundamentally stupid, and therefore if you hate cartoons as an adult it's because you've outgrown them.
Rather, I find that when you like a show growing up, you're much more willing in your later years to rewatch and rationalize and analyze and find hidden depths. Not so with kid's shows you find at an older age—because you don't have that emotional attachment, that drive to find reasons to love it as an adult, it's so much easier to dismiss it offhandedly because you don't care enough to make it worth your time.
I'm not saying that you have to talk yourself into loving the shows you grew up with; rather, if a show's great as an adult it shouldn't take long to find reasons. But it's much easier to capture the magic a second time with an adult mindset than it is to capture it a first time with one. It's also entirely possible that you don't need a deep reason to love a show, as fans of The Three Stooges are probably aware. (Being one of them, please don't take that as a Take That!.)
So, yeah. That's my bit.
I suck at endings.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Funny. My mom always enjoyed watching most of the first several shows (especially Rugrats) with me. In fact, when we first got Nicktoons Network, I caught her watching the reruns several times.
Your mom sounds cool. Mine was always like "turn that down, the voices are annoying." Though she watched Rocko with us, she thought that was funny (and it was.)
And yeah, Wackd, I get you completely. I was watching Freakazoid not too long ago, and found myself really laughing hard at some of the jokes I didn't get as a kid. And yeah, I probably was a bit hard on the whole "adults dont like cartoons because theyre too grown up!" theme, because a lot of today's cartoons probably are great, but I wouldn't know because I haven't watched Nick in years. The only thing I watch on that channel now is Roseanne and The Nanny at night.

As for that Fighting Game I suggested, what characters should be in it? Fatalities? Stages? Bonus Boss characters? Regular boss characters?
I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2DIf there was a multi-crossover fighting special, I know who could be the referee/judge/The Voice, that mouse from Cat Dog, snarky sense of humour and you could make him genre savvy about how the animation physics have changed over the years due to the animation itself changing over the years.
Disclaimer: If anyone disagrees with anything I say, I am quite prepared to not only retract it, but also to deny under oath I ever said it.You have to remember, too, that Nikelodeon is unapologetically a kids channel. This is of course not to even remotely suggest that adults can't enjoy their programming, just a point to remember when trying decipher what drives their programming. They're not a nostalgia channel, they're not going out of their way to appeal to people who grew up with their past programming. They're not likely to do anything that they think won't appeal to what they consider their current audience, which they seem to feel is kids under 15.
So yeah, I predict they do nothing at all to commemmorate the anniversary of the Nicktoon.

2009 then? The only decent things they've done in the last 2 - 3 years was airing re-runs of The Rugrats. The only good new shows they've had in recent years are Tuff Puppy and Mighty B.
