Ah, yes, the "natural feel" as opposed to "clearly staged" is a good point, too. Vocabulary is failing me.

Crown-cat doesn't look very imperious at all to me. Just looks like a cat being a cat, in a somewhat awkward position due to the way it's being held.

I don't exactly dislike the image, but I don't see the love either. It's gonna win though.

Edit: I like the medal better because he's so smug.

It feels like a papal blessing or something :)

[down] Dunno, I think the cape-and-crown looks less staged than the medal. Maybe reading too much into the "facial expression" :) It is not as bad as some of the others on that front. Overall it "feels" better, for lots of reasons... that is just one of them.

[down][down] That is not true :P I am very familiar with cat body language. He looks relaxed (and imperious) to me. There are many reasons a cat might extend its paw. The others seem vaguely annoyed with or totally unaware of their costume. I think that's a matter of opinion, not a matter of fact.

I can see why "cat in crown and cape" looks so obviously staged, but to me the kitty olympics one just looks a cat that is lying back confidently, after having won a gold medal. Granted, that's only because I took it out of context, but still...

[up][up]Only if you're not familiar with cat body language. He looks more uncomfortable than anything else to me. He's reaching out because his legs aren't being supported.

... so the idea is that the image would be ruined if one is thoroughly familiar enough with cat body language, assuming your own assessment of it is the right one? Meh, hardly enough reason not to consider the image itself a good one.

It's in the lead by 18 votes now, so once Raso or anyone else can just specify where the image originated from, we can put it up.

No, I'm fine with it, I was just confused as to why it seemed so absurdly popular compared to the others, which by my estimates are about equally good. There's a difference between edging a win and a landslide victory.

Note that I haven't actually downvoted it or anything.

... I guess the image should pothole to the page, then, leaving the caption free for potholing to other tropes or works articles. I was thinking of putting up the image with a caption saying "Bow down before me, everyone, for I am your king!"

I am pretty sure that the website got it elsewhere as well and no watermark so it doesn't really matter... go with the caption.

We need a better caption; referencing a Simpsons quote that has nothing to do with the image is stupid.

It might not be related to the image in and of itself, but it would seem to fit with the image. In any case, I decided to put it up without a caption for now.

This looks ready for a lock, unless we want to discuss captions.

Well, seeing as how we already have a thread for this here, we may as well use it to discuss captions. o.o

The first thing that came to mind was "In nomine Felis..." but I don't think that would really work since it's a crown and not a miter.

Does the current caption need to be changed, or can we lock this?
