http://www.toonzone.net/news/articles/36047/captain-planet-season-1-coming-to-dvd-on-april-19-2011

Yes, I know the Toon Zone forums are horrible, but the site is essential for animation news.

This press release provides several lulzy quotes.

"Move over Iron Man, Spider-Man and Batman, the world’s first environmentally-conscious superhero on the block plans to offer kids action-packed adventure and a chance to help save the environment."

"Offering rich animation and engaging storytelling"

When John K. hears about this he will implode.

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!

"As excitement builds for Captain Planet and the Planeteers: Season One DVD release, Shout! Factory will announce additional activities and events for fans in the forthcoming months."

Are they trying to bring CP back into the mainstream? Imagine... a live-action PG-13 Captain Planet movie

Captain Planet is terrible enough as a cartoon. How much worse can a live action movie possibly be?

Don't say that, Uwe Boll will take it as a challenge.

You gotta picture the look on the face of the guy who redacted that press release while writing it.

But will they be carbon neutral DVDs?

Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.

Is wrong to admit I actually enjoy Captain Planet (though strictly in a So Bad, It's Good perspective, of course)

[up] No, it's not.

But saying Iron Man, Spider-Man and Batman should just move away is pure Narm made publicity.

I think it would make a better camp live action show, for some reason.

This, and The HUB, prove that the economy has forces bad 80's nostalgia to return.

Why the hell does this get a dvd release when actual good cartoons like Megas XLR haven't?

Something isn't right when this gets the press but nobody is talking about the Swat Kats DVD.

Sadly, Swat Kats isnt going to be sold via retail (im holding out for used copies to show up on amazon myself), which is why CP gets more attention.

Captain Planet was made in 1990.

Captain Planet coming to DVD is nice, but where the fuck is Fox's Peter Pan and the Pirates?

Hm. I'm seriously considering pre-ordering the first season so I can do a liveblog. But is it worth the cost? I've got the money, but I'm not sure if I can afford the loss of sanity.

Pre-ordering doesn't ensure that you'll get it before everyone else.

To be honest I remember the first three seasons of Captain Planet being pretty good. I hope Shout eventually does all six seasons (there are some episodes of the final season that are unofficially banned for some reason) but if they only get the first three out, I'll be happy.

^^ I know I might not get it first, but there's no way I'll remember the date it comes out if I don't pre-order it.

You know the real shame about Captain Planet? If Ted Turner had made even the slightest effort to not be so ... Ted Turner, it might have been a good show. Certainly though the majority of it was nonsensical, there were certain parts of it that were rather good.

What Captain Planet needs is a complete reboot.

Nah, Swat Kats needs a reboot more. I don't get enough of my daily fighterjet action, but get more than enough eco-bull.
