IIRC it's primarily the smoke itself that hurts you by depositing particulates in your lungs, and the additives make things even worse.
So your answer is yes.

Pretty much. Tobacco isn't good for you, the cheap shit they put in cigarettes is even worse.
Really, the only good reasons to smoke are to look cool and RL-trolling anti-smoking busybodies.

Actually, pipes aren't as harmful for two reasons...
- 1: You don't inhale it, you just roll it around in your mouth for flavor. And pipesmoke is so strong, if you accidentally do inhale it, you cough like hell. So, no lung cancer.
- 2: The tobacco doesn't actually touch your lips the way it does with cigars. So, less risk of mouth cancer.
^^ Or one just likes the smoke. I've experimented with some flavored pipe tobacco. Fruity, yet burnt.
Compared to my experience with cigarettes, which just left a horrible taste in my mouth and the only benefit to them is that if you take them with alcohol, it gets you drunker faster. Considering their addictiveness, I suppose the repulsion is a blessing, so meh.

To indulge in a bit of leet-speak "lolno." You might not get a lungful with every puff, but it's impossible to not inhale any smoke, so there's still a chance of lung cancer, just not as much.
Also, you get an interweb if you can tell me how these two sentences are related:
1) "Rolling smoke around the mouth for flavor."
2) "Oral cancer."
Seems like everything contains carcinogens nowadays.
The point is that pipe smoking puts you at a lower risk of cancer than cigarette smoking, not that there's zero risk.

Especially since I dated a nurse who told me that if you die of anything and you smoke, those who fill out your death certificate are required to list smoking as one of your causes of death.
Why? So that anti-smoking crusaders can have the inflated numbers they enjoy.
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~The thing that I get pissed about is that Tobacco companies are limited to almost nothing in the way of advertising or defending themselves, yet the anti-smoking groups sit around spouting their own rhetoric all day. It's not that I feel all of their claims are false, it's that on principle I don't see it as being right to silence one side by force but let the other speak.

Is it the tobacco itself that hurts you, or is it just the nasty additives they put in cigarettes that hurt you?
For example, if one smokes pipe tobacco, which doesn't have as many additives as cigarettes, is it pretty much just as bad as smoking a cigarette?
