Invisible woman works for me, though it is really long. Simon's certainly not a bad choice either, though, provided we make "after" more readable.

Belief or disbelief rests with you.

The Invisible Woman ones rely on far more text than the Simon one, in addition to being two images.

I prefer the Invisible Woman ones.

I prefer Invisible Woman. The Simon after picture just looks weird. Doesn't look like him. Plus it's weird.

Wouldn't it be better to just show a picture of Sue being not so strong at first, and then being strong later? Going from a bunch of text to then a picture with little action doesn't really have a good rhythm in the illustration.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

In the first she's getting carried in as (rather sexist) moral support after she calls herself useless, and in the second there's a pile of bodies behind her. I don't know how you can get much clearer than that.

The Simon pictures are just JAFAAC to me. "Oh, OK, so they're pictures of the same guy? And he was weak before, but not after, and didn't just activate his powers or something, so he Took a Level in Badass between pic 1 and pic 2? Um, OK, if you say so...."

Isn't the other picture like that too, except that it requires three wordy speech bubbles to explain the weakness in pic one?

Also, that is not what JAFAAC means.

Honestly, the Invisible Woman picture and the Simon picture both have problems.

The first Simon pic is good (He looks timid and weak), but the second is just a blurry green mess, and it's not even clear they're the same person. A better one should be clearer at the very least, with probably a clearer emphasis on who it is.

The second Sue pic is great, but the first is just a bunch of text and, worse still, doesn't actually illustrate that she is weak (Only that the other people disrespect her). A better one might involve Sue being kidnapped or something along those lines.

To me, that looks like two pictures of someone with a level in badass.

[up] In the top frame, he's messing up the punch. Especially in the upper example.

^Well, in the upper version, you're right.

In the lower version, he still seems semi-badass.

Invisible Woman is a lot more clear than Luffy, and it's really not obvious that both Simon pics are the same character. If we got a clearer 'after' picture for Simon, he'd be functional, but I can't quite imagine him being as good as the Invisible Woman.

If we do wind up going with Invisible Woman, can we at least merge them into a single image so we don't have them both on one page?

There are two problems I have with Invisible Woman. The first is that the two images together are way too long. The second is that the first is solely text-based, while the second is solely image-based. While text-based images are bad on their own, even worse is inconsistency.

Well, if we have problems with the first Invisible Girl pic being too wordy, we could always show one of her Damsel in Distress moments.

Like this one

Since when did "too long" join "has text" as an inexplicable all-purpose image killer? If we're actually going to start enforcing rules like this, we should write down the "no text allowed" business and put an arbitrary image height limit for the Image Uploader. It'd save people from wasting time, at least.

When I'm thinking of this trope, the first and most memorable example that comes to my mind is Pop the Magician from Dai No Daibouken, who started as a snivelly coward and became by the end one of the most heroic and badass chars of the story.

I currently don't have pics of his coward stage; is a collage from those two pics where he becomes a Wise Man enough to illustrate the trope, or do we really need a coward pic?

IMO, a "coward stage" picture really would be necessary in this case. The final "wise man" image does look pretty decent, but I still have no idea who this guy is (or was.) It'd need a "before" image for contrast.

Rodney's twofer of Invisible Woman works for me.

And we don't have a policy of "no words in a page image." That's a piece of bullshit strawmanning. What we have is a policy of "Don't make the words do all or the vast majority of the work in a page image".

^^ Found some examples of Pop's "coward stage" on good enough quality scans. But I don't know which panels would fit best, your opinion?

[up][up]Yeah, I know, I was overindulging in hyperbole there. I just get frustrated by people who act like one or two sentences in a page image constitutes a huge, impenetrable Wall of Text.
