Admittedly I also feel a twinge of Schadenfreude when it comes to the new Kirby Air Ride game. After so many years of Smash games, here's Sakurai deciding, "…You know what, maybe developing Kirby games ain't so bad all of a sudden."
inb4 someone mentions that's likely not what actually happened. Comedic value takes precedence.
Nintendo Direct trailers for Riders and Star-Crossed World since they weren't linked already.
Apparently the Switch 2 edition of Forgotten Land is .1gb smaller than the Switch edition.
My musician pageSakurai confirms that the Bandai Namco Smash team is also doing Air Riders.
Ok, seems he's going for familiarity. That makes sense.

...Why... is the Bandai-Namco team doing Kirby Air Riders? I thought we were seeing Sakurai working with JUST Hal Laboratory devs.
Edit, Now That I Thought It Through: ...I mean he didn't say Hal Laboratory devs weren't also heavily involved... and for those Bandai-Namco devs... they probably appreciate having someone like Sakurai, who lets them work on games that don't have the risk of being screwed over by someone like their parent company.

It's unlikely that most of the staff who worked on the original Air Ride are still at HAL.

It's also crazy talk.

So, is this "EX mode"? If so...
I'm really not looking forward to fighting Crystal Phantom bosses.

More of a... I don't know what to call this besides a whole lot of Remixed Levels. And it's gonna be awesome.
I'm personally expecting Star-Crossed Worlds to have its own bosses, and that the game will take place after the Ultimate Cup Z. I'm not sure how the Ultimate Cup and Ultimate Cup Z will be handled but I guess that the new bosses will either have their own arena or the existing ones will be updated to include them.
Based on what I've heard about Star Crossed Worlds (since I didn't watch the Treehouse myself), once you beat the main game, crystal meteors drop at the beginning of each level and lead to alternate paths in each level.
In the standalone trailer, one of the water levels has the water open up and have you platform on the coral.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Its been said that the meteor in Star-Crossed Worlds resembles a Jamba Heart, and that it might mean a new incarnation of Void. However there are two characters who were sent away into dimensional portals (Aeon Hero and True Arena Magolor Soul), and I wonder if this expansion will follow up on their fates by having them appear in the New World.
"Punishment is not the answer. Punishment is easy. It's lazy. Redemption is hard. Redemption makes you work."-Skulduggery Pleasant- Kirby: Triple Deluxe: The Big Bad Sectonia, according to Word of God, only became a narcissistic tyrant after she went insane from staring into the corrupted Dimension Mirror for too long. But without glancing at some pause menu descriptions in the postgame, all you're likely to see is a one-dimensional villain who, in short order, blasts her loyal servant Taranza off a tower for failing her, constantly boasts about her beauty and power, attempts to ascend to godhood, threatens to feed on the inhabitants of Planet Popstar for eternity, and spends WAY too much time in the background in her final form, making The Reveal of her tragic descent into madness pretty abrupt. Added lore in Kirby: Planet Robobot heavily implies that Sectonia has used her parasitic magic on innocents for at least 1000 years just to become more beautiful, which further undercuts the sympathetic angle the writers meant to go for. First I've heard this complaint, want to check if widespread. Issue is that pause screens establishing such are more accessible than the Word of God confirming such. Might be UU as Informed Kindness and Robobot suggesting such before the game the mirror would have come into their possession. (just realized how vague series timeline is).
- Kirby Star Allies: Hyness is initially presented as a purely despicable, Dark Matter-worshipping lunatic who uses his loyal followers like weapons and even human sacrifices in pursuit of a revenge that would destroy the entire universe. Then the "Heroes in Another Dimension" update came along, revealing (somewhat hastily, even for series standards) that Hyness is actually a tragic Reluctant Psycho, and Kirby redeems him simply by throwing a Friend Heart at him, when previous tragic villains like Queen Sectonia and President Haltmann weren't forgiven for their evil actions and got killed off permanently. This has left a somewhat sour taste in some fans' mouths, who would have preferred it if he were never presented as sympathetic. Seems valid, but needs reworking to start with why ment to be sympathetic despite. Is it also the case he's Not Brainwashed unlike other such series villains?
- For the first example, yeah, I can't say I've ever seen anyone feel that way; and I'd argue the angle they were going for is that Sectonia is tragic and not sympathetic anyways, since her descent with the Amazing Mirror was always motivated by her own vices. I don't think the perception of her being UU is widespread enough to be an example.
- I never played "Heroes in Another Dimension" so I can't attest to that, but I feel like... that example probably can stick. The thing with him is Star Allies has a really bad case of Dub-Induced Plot Hole going on, and Hyness in particular lost any indication that he used to be benign in the base game before obsessing with revenge and believing Void/the Jamba Heart would deliver it. The fact that he was banished is still there, just not the fact that it was unfairly sprung on him. (That said, the core theme of Star Allies is how your emotions and intent sow themselves into others; I do think Kirby purifying Hyness in the end is a good bowtie to that.)

For me, it's more of an "Oh Shit" moment, Masahiro Sakurai returning to the Kirby series, irrespective of it being a spin-off game or otherwise. (And before anyone asks, the OG Kirby Airride is yer another Gamecube game I have the fondest memories of, right there with Thousand-Year Door, Metroid Prime and Donkey Konga.)
