In any case, it's copyrighted to a deviantart member, so we'll need a better one. This one
is better drawn.

Generally a "signature" is okay, it's the little copyright symbol itself we need to watch out for. Still not a good image.
Fight smart, not fair.If there's any issue, it's difficult to say, if you never watched it, that the boy and the girl embracing aren't together anyway. The other fanart image works in that regards, but it's a lot of text, and might be hard to make out shrunk.
Also, I agree we have to watch for (c), but also bear in mind plenty a misguided fan "copyrighted" their fanfiction when they did no such thing. Just stamping (c) on anything doesn't work.

I was under the impression that it totally works. Like, trespassing on a piece of property might be illegal whether or not there is a NO TRESPASSING sign, but some kinds of proceedings will care whether or not a sign was posted.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.
Diagonalizing The Matrix
Bumpity.
I'm seriously considering pulling it. Again (and I'd like a straight answer this time if possible), is this actually an example? Even if so, it seems dangerously close to "example above the example line". I'm leaning towards not picturable on this one.

Pretentious quote || In-joke from fandom you've never heard of || Shameless self-promotion || Something weird you'll habituate toThe current one is bordering on JAFAAC. The one suggested above at least shows us that some fans made them to.
Although more or less I'm okay with the image.
I don't know anything about the fandom, though.
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman. There's definitely things going on in that fanart. Someone is getting pushed away. The caption provides the push that links what's going on in the image to the trope. I don't think it's Just A Face And A Caption.
At the least, I don't think it's so terrible that it deserves to be pulled without a replacement. It's obviously "the girl is hooking up with the one guy instead of the other guy," so I think it's at least vaguely indicative even if you aren't familiar with the series.

Diagonalizing The Matrix
Maybe we need a caption that does a better job of filling in the missing pieces of the puzzle. Like "How fans would rather have it, canon be damned".

That'd definitely be an improvement, but I'm not sure how we'd go about it. Using someone's fanart is one thing; appropriating it is something else. At the very least stretching it in any direction is not a good idea.

What he means is that we shouldn't take someone's fanart and modify it without their permission. Someone might get miffed if they see that we've changed one of their pictures for use here.
I like that one too. While I still have no idea who the people in the image are, the "pushy fans" aspect comes across clearly.
Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.

1. The image is based on the realization that the character isn't really doing this, it's the fans projecting their wishes onto the character and what they wish he would do. Is that a reasonable mental leap to base an image on? I'm not sure (I mean, I got it, but only because wandering through this wiki has forced me to be familiar with the fact that the guy in the middle and the girl on the left aren't interested in each other in canon).
2. More importantly, can anyone from Avatar The Last Airbender fandom do their best to give some objective account on whether the pairing pictured as "favorite" in there is actually an example of the trope? I mean, is it really significantly more popular than the canon alternative.
