Well, it's ok, because MegaMan actually has goood gameplay.

ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.That part fits, just replace "prequel" with AU/Distant sequel whose plot only makes vague connection with the original series and isn't going to be resolved any time soon. That could be seen as stagnation by the silly peoples who care about the plot in Mega Man.
I don't mind Mega Man's mission pack sequel, myself.
Don't forget unyielding excitement about Mega Man Legends 3.
Mega Man doesn't really suffer from Capcom Sequel Stagnation. Things actually do change from game to game and series to series. Plus, the overarching plot is fun to keep up with (at least from X onwards). Even if they did retcon one of the major plot-points out before it ever happened.
Besides the vague references in storylines, there's a few happenings of Expies of the Robot Masters. But that's really it. The games are more than different enough.
Really, this is one of the games that subverts that problem. I mean, the trope was named for Street Fighter II specifically, not Mega Man.
And Mega Man Legends rocks.
Quest 64 threadI've seen a few people hate Legends, but they were part of the fanbase that thinks any Megaman game that isn't a platformer is blight on the franchise. * I only really liked the first Legends, but found the sequel pretty forgettable (I only really recall the two or three dark-skinned characters, specifically Yuna, Sera, and the guy who's names sounds like "Geetz" but isn't spelled like that).
I'm not sure if anyone besides other Megaman fans and haters would call the series an example of Sequel Stagnation. The Megaman Battle Network series might be an example, but I don't think it is.
Capcom Sequel Stagnation essentially boils down to selling the exact same game over and over again with minimal alterations.
None of the Mega Man games do that, nor do any of their spin-offs. People are mistaking the trope for Mission-Pack Sequel, which, lets be honest, the vast majority of sequels do, for very good reason (if it sells, why change it?). Mega Man's only notable because of the frequency of the games being released was higher than most other series (one game per year, was it?).

In other words, misblamed.
Never really bothered with any games beyond the original 8(any the others on the Anniversary Collection), Soccer, Legends, and X4.
The Battle Network series did seem to be rediculously similar from what I noticed to eachother. Anyway, I watched the show, but...
Quest 64 threadSo yeah, I think you're all agree that Mega Man has a case of Mission-Pack Sequel. Now I'm just wondering how those tropers misblamed Mega Man games with having a case of CSS.
MAX POWER KILL JEEEEEEEEWWWWWSome other Capcom games, like Street Fighter II, had Capcom Sequel Stagnation.
Mega Man 9 is my new favorite, at long last dethroning 3 from its 20-year reign.
I didn't like Legends, but I far from hated it.
I must be cruel, but to be kind That bad may begin, and worse be left behind![]()
The obvious answer is that the trope name creates a different image than what the trope really is. Stagnation is for something to stop moving or growing. Capcom, along with doing constant rereleases of the same game, also creates multiple sequels with little to no change in gameplay, only different levels. The gameplay is stagnant. So a troper will see the name and, familiar with Capcom's works, will skip over the description because they think they already know what it means. They then add examples that really have nothing to do with the trope.
And low and behold, you get confusion. Glorious, glorious confusion.
Of course, there are a few fixes. One would be to move the improper entries to Mission-Pack Sequel. Another would be to rename the trope (though it has such a wonderful name). And a third would be to segment it into Type A and Type B, with Type A being the current definition, and Type B being Mission-Pack Sequel thrown in there, destroying Mission-Pack Sequel in the process.

One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderPerhaps. Though outside of recycled concepts, Capcom is the Trope Namer for a damn good reason.
Quest 64 thread

To put it simply, It Just Bugs Me!... Why people here keep saying that Mega Man has a case of Capcom Sequel Stagnation? Mega Man never have a game that is released too many times. The laconic for that trope is "Basically the same game, released twelve times." Okay, maybe not twelve times, but once again, Mega Man never have a game that is released too many times.
Mega Man is more of a case of Mission-Pack Sequel than Capcom Sequel Stagnation.
