Not being credible means people won't want to make deals with you. That is extremely inconvenient.

Lets stop the personal attacks against each other and plot warfare like gentlemen.

But on a serious note, in the discussion on if America is imperialist I feel that most people are treating America as the sole International player. Don't forget the Soviet Union was a major player until its collapse and even today it is still a strong regional player.

So to move on the discussion, did America, as an international (or imperialist, if that's what you think), do more harm than good in terms of ethical use of its power and so on.?

Also, Gitmo is sure a better place to be than Vorkuta.

What's Vorkuta? And "we're not as bad as freaking Stalin or Hitler or Imperial Japan or even our grandparents" is not a valid defense: it's what we call Values Dissonance and Society Marches On.

Didn't we do water-boarding, like a grand total of five times, before it was stopped?

[up][up] Vorkuta was a Soviet prison for political dissidents and captured American personnel.

You mean there were only five iterations between discovering the method and abandoning it? And all of them were dutifully recorded.

Okay.

Other nations have nukes too.

Yeah I know. But not as many. Basically it's Assured Destruction for one, but the reciprocity isn't true.

You honestly think that if Russia and the United States had a nuclear war now the US would come out unscathed?

Speaking mostly to those claiming that 'teh unahted staets can totally blow u up!!!!!11!!1!oneoneeleventyeleven" who seem to forget that the USA isn't the only country with nukes, it's just the one that brags about it the most; it's like that guy in the bar waving around his dong. If America decided to play hardball, the other nuclear-armed nations would play just as hard.

Don't strawman, please.

Didn't we do water-boarding, like a grand total of five times, before it was stopped?

No.

Why is it always strawmanning? I was asking a question.

Ninja'd.

I like hyperbole, sue me.

Also, Tzetze uses 'strawman' more that I use 'fuck.' It's kind of her(his?) Berserk Button.

[down] I do that to MYSELF, for blood's sake. It's what I do when paraphrasing everyone's words from my own to the guy next to me to the fricking President. It's just the way I speak, and I really mean no offense.

For god's sake. You could at least respect people you disagree with as human beings instead of blithering illiterate fools. You won't get anywhere with the latter approach other than smug self-satisfaction you don't deserve.

I think Vorkuta is also where they basically ran over revolting prisoners with tanks.

I might be wrong.

But I don't see why anyone who uses !1!1! Should be taken seriously, at all, even if it is in jest.

No they wouldn't. The number of nuclear weapons the US (and Russia) own vastly outnumbers the rest of the world.

Wouldn't be too surprised, the gulags weren't very nice. But saying that you have a better human rights record than the CCCP is saying pretty much nothing at all, you know?

Its like saying Castro was better than Stalin, really.

I won't defend Gitmo since I don't know if it was actually useful but I personally belief facilities like that may be ffective, but I don't know. I'm only saying that I don't think they are as bad as people make them out to be and I brought up the CC Cp to say that on the whole, US military police is very unlike the CCC Ps.

Oh, certainly. I'm no fan of the CIA but I don't think they were ever as bad as the NKVD.

Anyway, I'd be more worried about sites most people don't know about. And ones I can't link to Wikipedia articles on.

As I said, if the USA started a nuclear war with the UK, France, India, Pakistan, Israel simultaneouly... I'm fairly certain they'd win. Russia on the other hand...

As for China, the question is, if they don't fire enough nukes to compromise the entire planet and it turns into a land war in Asia...

Yeah, this tells me that the US could fling something like five times as many nukes against everybody but Russia. Also, I'm not sure on the targeting order and numbers, but the US has a lot more places you have to hit to wipe out everyone that's important. That's also ignoring any defenses.

Yeah if they hit military targets first but if they just wanted to tear up your GDP, it doesn't take more than 10 nukes to do that. If I hit every major urban centre starting from the top and moved my way down, until you only had small town america left, with most of the country irradiated and EM Ps have wiped out your entire electrical infrastructure, that's not what I call winning. Yay, we blew up more Chinese but there's 100 million dead americans and we're taking food aid from Canada. We so win! Now let's look at youtube vids of a cat standing up, oh shit wait, the internet is gone.

As for America being Imperialist, I just don't think the term is applicable these days because after the 1950s, it has gone out of style. You just can't do it. I mean look at Iraq and Afghanistan. USA can't even install puppet regimes in those piss crap states, I doubt they can take over much else. It just costs way too much money and people are too nationalist these days. America can be a dick, it can do things by force, it can take unilateral action against the wishes of the UN but Imperialist? I don't think that's the term for it.

If you're targeting cities, there's not going to be much radiation as airbursts are optimal for flattening soft targets like cities.
