People like the games and its characters. What's so hard to understand?
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.Shadow the Hedgehog actually strikes me as something that could've been awesome if it hadn't been tied to Sonic and had more dev time. Seriously, a mix of high speed gameplay and the ability to snatch weapons everywhere could've been so cool. I actually didn't find the game that bad, but it definitely had some potential that was sadly buried under a half baked premise.
It's main problem aside from the shitty writing was being far too repetitive I thought. Playing through all those stages to get the final ending is a bitch because it takes so damn long. The actual gameplay wasn't too bad though Shadow's homing attack could be very unwieldy at times and send you careening off into nothingness. The guns oddly ended up being much, much more useful because they homed in on targets and didn't involve you having to jump and possibly fly off a ledge to your death. The vehicle aspect was incredibly half baked and pointless save for the few mandatory flight portions of the game.

If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahOne of the most awesome things about STH was the first level. Usually you expect the first level of a Sonic game to be simple and bright, but in Shadow, you're fucking running through a city being annihilated.
Holy shit, that would look awesome on Current-gen consoles. Just tighten up the controls a little bit.
"Who wants to hear about good stuff when the bottom of the abyss of human failure that you know doesn't exist is so much greater?"-WraithIt was ok the first time around I thought. It was a nice fast paced first level though I found it a bit bland design wise. Having to go through it like ten times made me dislike it a lot though. A whole hell of a lot.
The best worst levels were the ARK stages which had horrible goals and the hilarious Maria. Oh Maria...bouncing off springs and taking bullets to the back like a son of a bitch.

If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahOh god yes, fuck The Doom and Lost Impact. Those levels are like a fucking maze. You'd think it'd be easy, and then thirty minutes later you're going "WHERE THE FUCK IS THAT LAST GUN SOLDIER/CHAOS/SCIENTIST?!"
Lost Impact's track nearly makes me cry, though. It's pretty damn sad.
"Who wants to hear about good stuff when the bottom of the abyss of human failure that you know doesn't exist is so much greater?"-WraithYES. I JUST KEPT WANDERING LOOKING FOR THOSE FUCKING THINGS AND COULDN'T FIND THEM. All while Maria babbled on.
Maria: Don't you think the research specimens look cute when they split apart?
-soldiers screaming about a friend being killed by a splitting Artificial Chaos-
Shadow: Uh...yeah. Very cute.

Remember the Sega Genesis?
One of these days, one of these days I'll get Aoki. I know it. I don't need him anymore...Hey, Mad, can you perhaps get this moved to Yack Fest or Video Games?
No. No. No!
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.Sonic has two reasons it prevails today.
It appealed to kids in the 90's. Those kids are now older and willing to risk money for a little bit of that experience again. God knows I am. I almost lost hope too. Then COLORS happened.
It appeals to kids now. It has the dark, brooding character for Japanese kids (Shadow). It has the tough guy and the rebellious guy for American kids (Knuckles and Sonic). It has bright colors and a accepted amount safety for younger kids, making parents more willing to buy it. Especially if they were caught in the 90's appeal or at least knew of it.
Third (what do you mean I said two reasons?), the comic. Yeah, still awesome.

I've tried to enjoy every Sonic game so far. The only exceptions were Tails' Sky Patrol, Sonic Unleashed(gameplay at least. 360 version, specifically) and Sonic Rush.(Rush Adventure was good)
For the first one, it just wasn't that good.
Second one? I'm horrible at games, so I can't defeat the Press X to Not Die mission. And then there's Rush, where I can't even get past Blaze's first stage... with a Codebreaker Lite. That's how bad I am at games.
While I couldn't get past Sonic 2006's first stage, my cousin and I worked together on the game, and we enjoyed the hell out of it.

Quest 64 thread

STH is redeemed by its kickass music, though.
But that's to be expected with a sonic game. Anybody who says otherwise is wrong.
