Anyone play it? I know it's outdated, but this is what introduced me to Super Smash Bros.

Broken mechanics, broken physics, and dull Sonic fan characters as unlockables.

Looking back, not worth the time I wasted on it.

Not a good game.

Couldn't stand most of it. While fan characters don't horribly bug me(I have them myself), calling X "Mega Man" and not saying X at all was its biggest failure IMO.

Yes, petty, but hey, I made a topic in IJBM discussing it, as it does become a big issue amongst purists. I like being name accurate myself. Not spelling(since I can't always spell a name right) but the pronounciation and so on.

However, it's cool that it got you into the real Super Smash Bros series. I hope you played the three games in order. Or atleast played all three games in general, Pies.

But hey, the game has a sequel! And it plays much like Brawl!

The only major problem I see is the needless anime character insertion.

...And still has stupid fan characters. I can get over Anime characters(technically, Pikachu and Jigglypuff were added in the first Smash because of the Anime not the games), since they're not so bad.

In the first game, it wasn't that big of a deal. But they weren't needed in the second game as they're not even that original. I can deal with fan characters that aren't fandumb.(example being something like Metal Waluigi because it's quite possible in the series overall)

Where as recoloring a sonic character and giving them a sword is just silly. Making a metal version of a character when tons of remade metal versions have already been made(that being the Sonic series) is actually something that could happen.

In other words, if it was a game completely full of fan characters, then it'd be fine. Otherwise, it's just self inserts and literal Mary Sue s.

Eh, whatever. I can't change your opinion.

All I have to say is SSF 2 was a huge improvement.

Meh.

There are much better flash things that play like Smash out there.

I stopped playing SSF the moment I unlocked Inuyasha and Mr. Incredible. The sheer WTF-ery made me stop. The fail of Kirby swapping out with Meta Knight and the sheer number of fan characters helped with that.

Then I tried the demo for the sequel, and saw that it had Ichigo. And then I stopped again.

I remember a different Smash Bros. related-fangame, but I forget its name. The difference? It was actually pretty good.

The only good Super Smash-like flash game I can think of is Newgrounds Rumble. It didn't focus on having a cast of every recognizable character on the face of the earth. It focused on making the gameplay as tight as possible. Not to mention making new sprites and animations for each character as opposed to just recycling the sprites from the games.

That's not to say that Super Smash Flash was that bad. I played the sequel and rather enjoyed it, but I'll take NG Rumble any day.

[up][up] The only other one I remember was Super Smash X, which didn't support single-player.

SSX sucked.

Peculiar, Hydro: it seems like you'd dislike that too. There was a ridiculously overpowered OC that was little more than Zelda with a new moveset, and no multiplayer.

Don't remember if well enough to say, really.

Frankly, I'd rather see a game with a ton of OC's instead. We haven't had a nice completely new character game in a while.

As in no cameoes, a completely Original Generation. That way, if it doesn't go as well as pleased, it'll just fall off the face of the planet without ruining anyone, or it'll gain some Ensemble Dark Horse s. A win-win situation.

I had played both. The first one is really kinda bad. ((Though, I'll admit I don't mind it having fancharacters, since you touched upon the subject))

The SECOND, however, is quite an improvement! It plays a lot like brawl, has great character selection and design (design like their attacks work well), and has a good amount of stages. I'm excited for the final release, actually.

Someone said the second had fancharacters? Who're you talking about? ((Like I said, I don't mind fancharacters. It's just more content to me. I just dunno who you're talking about.))

Personally, I'm just insulted that they decided to add Naruto in over Bomberman, in the first game.

I will agree that the first game was rather...crappy. The physics were undoubtedly busted, the fan characters were pretty unnecessary, and it overall didn't feel like the game it was trying to emulate.

Super Smash Flash 2, on the other hand, is MUCH better than the first, making the first a very severe case of Early-Installment Weirdness.

For one, the physics now resemble more of Super Smash Bros. than I have ever seen before. You can now recover, send people flying in a more coherent manner (as in not sending them shooting off the screen with Megaton Punch force once they accumulate enough damage), there are far more stages to choose from, etc.

Secondly, the characters don't look too shabby. The sprite work is more or less improved (granted the sprites come from different games altogether, but still...), and it doesn't really look as half-assed as the first game did.

Third: NO FAN CHARACTERS...yet. If there aren't, good. The selection of characters we are currently getting are good (sure, the anime and other characters are kind of out of place, but again Your Mileage May Vary), and I look forward to seeing more.

Fourth, I'm glad there's a better Adventure Mode being cranked out as an add-on. That should make up for the first game's bad one.

Finally, the second game deserves a lot more credit than the unanimous hatred it gets. Come on, guys. They're putting a lot more effort into it. No need to try and tear the project down. Sure, there may be better knock offs of the Super Smash Bros. series (like Chaos Faction and Newgrounds Rumble, but once again, YMMV), but this is a pretty solid game so far. And this is just the beta, everyone.

One more off-topic thing related to one above post. When did you see fan characters in the game? I sure didn't.

At first, I thought I played this game one time, but I remembered it was Super Nuke Bros. that I played (enjoyed that game a little, though it ran horribly on IE). Where can I play Super Smash Flash?

Super Smash Flash does have its own page now (which desperately Needs Wiki Magic Love), and a good look through the Dev Blog for the upcoming demo shows just how hard they are working to make a fun, balanced Smash game. Personally, I do not see what is wrong with the Jump Ultimate Stars characters, and an Original Character or two should not hurt the game considering all the effort they are putting into it. It is currently competing with Super Smash Bros Crusade for title of best Super Smash Bros fan game. I would like to see Super Smash Bros Crusade get a page to see how the two stack up.
