Shout-Out is a trope where numerous examples can be found per work, especially if the work has Reference Overdosed syndrome. I wonder if Shout-Out should have a namespace where it shows show's main Shout Outs to other series and also other series which reference this show.

Isn't that part of what the Trivia namespace is for ?

There is a Shout-Out namespace. Like this.

I'm in favor of a Shout Out icon, since there so many examples of it on some pages. I would suggest a megaphone, but it's already being used as the Recap icon.

That's just a lot of organisation. Many tropes have those. We only want an icon if we are trying to get everything off the works pages and off of an example index and onto individual pages for each work. We don't want that with Shout-Out. We would like it in the trivia namespace though.

[up]That sounds like the most logical solution.

If there are a lot of Shout-outs (so much that they might drown out the other trivia tropes in a normal list) it's always possible to make a seperate folder for the shout-outs.

That's actually what I did in this (sandboxed) Trivia page for a Works page I'm cleaning up. Menage A 3 Trivia

Everything can be found on the Internet... except common sense.

See also this thread.

EDIT: I disagree with Shout-Out going in Trivia. It's a deliberate narrative device in which an author inserts a reference to something else.

It has no meaning within the work, though; only when it's applied to a context outside the work.

I'd argue that some series make a living on Shout Outs (though I cannot name any right now, I'll try and find some later), and it is important to the series. To ignore the Shout Outs is to ignore a vital part of a work (admittedly, it depends on the work in question), and it is an objective trope that happens within the work.

Still, Shout-Out's not currently marked as Trivia. If it is classed for Trivia (at least for now), that should probably be changed.

Well, if it only has meaning when outside context is applied, shouldn't we move all the Symbolism Tropes to Trivia?

Not the best example, but an Affectionate Parody doesn't make sense out-of-context if you didn't know what it was parodying. I'd still argue that it wouldn't be Trivia.

I know, not a great example.

Well... if it matters for understanding the work, then it isn't Trivia, I suppose.

I would like to state that any Shout-Out example that doesn't explain the shout out should get cut for X Just X though.

I'd argue that some series make a living on Shout Outs (though I cannot name any right now, I'll try and find some later)

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Hayate No Gotoku, Negima, Pani Poni Dash, (hell things by Studio SHAFT in general), Lucky Star, Baka To Test To Shoukanjuu, Ore No Imouto Ga Konna Ni Kawaii Wake Ga Nai, and Abridged Series are the ones that come to mind right this second.

Big Bang Theory as well.

Why would Shout-Out go in trivia if it's not trivia?
