No seriously. I'm pretty sure it means the same thing as "poll" (which would be a much better name,) but I'm kinda confused about their use and implementation.

It means, precisely, "poll". It's just that the name comes from when it was originally implemented as a way to vote on the Crowning Moment Of Awesome for a given work. Something that failed rather abjectly, I might add, and then the system was coopted for voting on trope repair topics.

Oh, interesting. I always thought that "Crowner" just referred to the various types of Crowning Moments and that the little smiley face, heart and medal icons on each Trope or Work page were the Crowner links.
