But it's not a bad image. In fact of any other suggestion it's the best one by far. An in game shot is too Uncanny Valley to work, so we use a good promo shot like the one that the site decided on way back when.
Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger than YoursPromo shot in a gameplay trope is bad because it doesn't show the trope. It just says "this is an example" which is bad.

But in game shots don't work either because they don't look nearly as good. The image quality is always much lower. You can't have it both ways. You can't have an in game shot from a 200 inch HD 3D TV and then get upset over the image quality, as has happened in this discussion. The current image works better than the others that have been suggested, thus that is the image that we'll use.

That isn't going to work because...ummm...well...you see...that is actually a CGI movie. You know, what you said we shouldn't use.
It also isn't a clear shot of the character.
Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger than YoursIt's clearly not any better than the picture.
The image doesn't itself have to be Fanservice, it just has to show the character could be used for Fanservice.
The whole point of the trope is that the character is used for fanservice. "Could be used for fanservice" is Rule 34.
Fight smart, not fair.Yes, but they don't have to be used for Fanservice in the picture itself; as TSS said, that would limit the quality of the image pretty badly.
Anyway, big boobs aren't Fanservice to you?

So? It's a clear shot of a characters ass, in a skimpy set up.
Look up the page, just a bit.
Promo shot in a gameplay trope is bad because it doesn't show the trope.
That's what you said. Yet the example you gave is a promo shot.
What rendering? That looks like a CGI sprite.
Again you raise the issue that the image needs to be an in game shot, which your suggestion is clearly not.
So because it is your example we ignore your previous comments?
Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger than YoursThat's a promo shot? I thought it was game play, because that's the word sequence I entered. It looked quite a bit like an in game shot because you're following the character around, which is how most 3rd person games do it.
The point is that it looks like gameplay. A character standing there doesn't look it. This
◊ and this
◊ also look like gameplay, because you're following the character. The only thing that would make them better is a HUD. And I'd still prefer to get rid of the site tag.

That's a shot from a promo movie. Look.

The current image stays regardless of how much you'd like otherwise. If there is one that works better we'll look at it, but your suggestions fail to meet the criteria.

I uploaded a clean image of Lara from TRA. That should do the trick
Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger than YoursThe caption is "The Trope Maker". I don't like that; it might kinda imply that the image is appropriate because she is a triumphant example. But I can't think of a better one.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.

Before Lara who could be said to illustrate this trope, really? Sure, there was Samus, there was the likes of Chun Li and Cammy, but they have never been bigger than video games, bigger than the game they were in. Tomb Raider changed all that, there were Lara Croft figurines and comics and movies and she was a license all her own. Because she would quickly evolve into being a focal point in selling the games and others followed suit that would make Lara the trope maker.
Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger than YoursWhen part of the trope is "third person", showing the image in the third person is wise.
Keep in mind, people could easily mistake this trope to mean "any attractive female player character" and that's not what it means. It means that she is dressed (and often moves) in such a way as to be titillating to those watching her.
A couple of the examples do seem to be moving fan service kinda way. If you google image search Lara Croft Screenshot there are a couple there that illustrate the perfect kind image, from an actual third-person perspective.
Because it's a brilliant picture we have now, providing you know who Lara Croft is. Otherwise it's just a hot action girl. At least a more actiony shot would hint more towards playability even if it had to be cutscene

Not looking for someone more recognizable, looking for an in game shot to show the trope. And no, everything is indeed up for an image pickin if it's a bad image.
