Is the new image from a work?
Seems like we have a pretty strong consensus for replacement.
Jet-a-Reeno!^Do images have to be from a work?
I like the new one much better.
Infinite Tree: an experimental storyI don't even think it necessarily makes the image better, but if it is from a work, I'm always curious to know which one it's from.
Jet-a-Reeno!I think it does. This Wiki is a catalog of devices in works. If there are two images that are otherwise equally good, the one from fiction is better.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I disagree wholeheartedly. The image is supposed to show the trope, being fictional offers nothing.
Fight smart, not fair.
Eh, I'd say it shouldn't be a factor at all.
Cuz the purpose of the image is to illustrate the trope. Real Life examples are bad examples of the trope's usage, but Real Life images can demonstrate the trope just as well as fictional examples. And, I mean, functionally, there's very little difference between a Real Life image and an image from a live action film.
But I digress.
It's only really a factor as a tie breaker. If you have two images that both are equally good and equally show the trope then the In Media image should go up over the Real Life because it's got a hair's edge as being a bit more on topic to the media's message.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dick

A troper replaced the first image on this page with the second one:
I actually think the new one is better too, but I reverted the image and started this thread on the general principle that existing images shouldn't be replaced unilaterally.
