I've only seen one person against the rename so far.

Are you referring to me, or am I #2?

I wouldn't mind a rename, but changing the purpose doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

I'd like to hear from some OTHER people who are in favor of the rename. It's a bit ridiculous to insist that every last one of them just wants IJAM to suffer because they lost their precious IJBM.

I'm sort of unclear as to my own reasons, but that doesn't mean everyone else who's upvoted Random Musings is.

Oh, I don't think that's why many of them are saying that. I think there are probably some people thinking like that, but I doubt they'd be able to upvote it that much.

Simple. IJAM had very little discussion until the nuke announcement, I know, I lurked here and there was really not a whole hell of a lot going on. The idea is that "Random Musings" would make it more conversational without making it more confrontational.

The only (reasonable) way you can ignore the dictates of the plurality (or majority or whatever-this sentence is overly generalized) is to say it somehow doesn't count.

The rename has more votes. Why doesn't that count? You can say "Well, Fast Eddie doesn't have to-" no. It was opened for discussion for some reason. If 51% of people want to change something, that doesn't mean it should be changed (if for no other reason than because of transaction costs etc) but now that it is open for discussion, the "Let Things Lie" defense doesn't work anymore.

Once again: I've yet to see a compelling argument to ignore the majority. If "Don't rename it" ends up ultimately getting the most votes... well, I can complain about the voting mechanism <Fu fu fu>

^^(Were you talking to me? If not, disregard this.)

I know. I understand the reason for suggesting the change. I just don't agree that it's necessary.

No, you're ignoring the opinion of the minority by saying that they can't just do what they want to do in their own place where it isn't bothering anyone else.

Probably not necessary, no, but the entire forum is unnecessary. The idea is that it would be better than leaving it as-is, for reasons outlined above.

Okay, let me explain my opinion in full.

IJAM is IJAM. This discussion is about whether we should call it something else, since the name "It Just Awes Me" is meant as a parallel title to "It Just Bugs Me."

If you want to have "random musings,"  *

a subforum for a different purpose than IJAM's, I don't object to that. I just don't see why IJAM would have to be replaced with it, rather than, you know, just making that forum.

INUH: I can respect that. Unfortunately, majority rules and all that.

I don't see why you still wouldn't be able to do the same things you've been doing, though.

Note that the gap has closed to the point that RM only has two more votes at the moment  *

, so calling it a clearcut case of minority vs majority is pretty questionable.

Anyway, when the people who use and like it aren't a disagreeable crowd making more work for the mods, even if there are a couple less of them I don't think they should be made to give up what they enjoy to satisfy those who don't like it. (Yes, it's "less narrow" but some people like the narrowness and I think it gives the place a bit of focus. It's like if you took WMG and said "Why not make it into a forum where people can talk about anything they want to regarding media, including but not limited to random guesses?" It's more open, sure, but the point is gone.)

The fact that lots of IJB Mers have migrated to IJAM means IJAM is not what it once was.

I don't really see a difference, other than this thread.

There are a few "totally-not-an-IJBM thread" threads, but we really aren't supposed to be making those.

Okay, live in your fantasy world where IJAM isn't being infected with the fallout from IJBM.

Meanwhile, I'm here, voting for a rename. VOTE I SHALL!

Tomu: The fact that lots of IJB Mers have migrated to IJAM means IJAM is not what it once was.

Um, no? This seems to have happened to Yack Fest, if anywhere.

Also, IJAM has 55 yeas and 31 nays, and RM has 56 yeas and 33 nays, so the numerical edge is gone now. (Crowner's still borked as far as adding that up, though.)

I think you missed my point. We have the lead—that's a total of +24 for IJAM to +23 for RM—but the crowner's not reflecting it for some reason.

(edit: Now it's +24 in IJAM's favor to +22 in RM's favor, though it's showing up as the other way around for some reason.)

Oh you're right-if we laughably think nays are worth -1 points, then it's in your favor.

But this crowner isn't the final decision maker anyway.

Honestly, I suspect Fast Eddie will just decide it's not worth the hassle no matter what any and all crowners have to say.
