I already know.
Then you should also know that Surge, Sabrina, and Koga change their evil ways eventually.
Oh COME ON, guys. Just because Koga's the Poison-type gym leader doesn't mean he's evil!
Huh? You say Sabrina was always a psychopath but in the games, Koga's the one that always struck me as one (as opposed to Sabrina, who was...just kind of boring.) Do you not remember the way he talked about poison's effects on enemies and his "Fwuhahahahaha!" evil laughter?
And Surge isn't evil! Granted, he's a hardass, but that's because he was a soldier!
Surge explained why he's evil in this manga; he got tired of having a pretense of power and got lured to the dark side by Giovanni with promises of true strength. He gets over this by the G/S/C arc and acts like the heroic hardass soldier he was in the games.
I know, but why Koga and Lt. Surge? Why not evil Brock or Misty or Erika for a change?
Well, Brock and Misty kind of were jerks in this manga before they became officially established as "good guys" and Erika outright pretended to be evil before she was revealed as a good guy. I think the Kanto gym leader that acted the least evil here was Blaine, who had done evil for Team Rocket before he quit.

This may be kind of late by now, but am I the only one bothered by the fact how kind of brushed aside Bianca and Cheren were? Sure, it would be kind of reduntant to see their struggles and self-discovery again, but still a missed oppurtunity.
Ah well, maybe in the future chapters.

Black and White have pretty much taken over their roles. Black is the guy obsessed with winning the League for no particular reason while White is struggling with self-discovery. Bianca and Cheren do show up now and then; Bianca still got her Pokemon stolen in Castellia while Cheren helped Black at the Cold Storage.

In other news, new poll results. Favorite one moment in the manga, and Sapphire confessing her feelings topped the chart. Second place was Ruby declaring Mimi's beauty, third was the Nine Elemental Hyper Beams and the Triple Volt Tackle, and the fourth was the un-petrifying. Lot more after that, but I can't read Japanese.

I'll hit you with this thingHeh, Blue is epic troll. She trolls just about everyone in the series, from Professor Oak to Red to Sabrina to Bill.
Holy crap this is complex. First Lance pulls a blitzkrieg on the entirety of Kanto, then Blaine and Yellow counter this with Operation Surprise Buttsecks, then Blue reveals that she chose Yellow because of her powers, then Lance reveals that this was all part of his plan, as he needed Yellow to awaken Ho-Oh.

That's the minority opinion, isn't it? I always hear Generation III getting the most flak from fans. Generations I, II, and V have been the best received. Now I liked the Generation III games but the manga arcs based around them were not my favorites. The Ruby and Sapphire arc actually was pretty decent until Groudon and Kyogre showed up but that's still not enough to warrant the popularity it gets in Japan. It's just a case of Americans Hate Tingle.
Wait...are Hoenn's and Sinnoh's E4 also psychopaths?
No, those E4 barely show up in the manga. I hope that changes with Unova's E4 though, and if there was ever a Pokemon League member I could see as an evil psycho, it's Grimsley.

How was it great, pray tell?
I personally thought the two main characters got more and more annoying as they went on, Archie and Maxie got turned into raving madmen for no reason toward the end, the battle between Groudon and Kyogre lasted far too long, Wally's intended role never came to pass, Courtney (one of the least important game characters period) got too much facetime, and WTF was up with Tabitha's ugly character design?
edited 28th Dec '11 12:52:52 PM by ManwiththePlan
Because I didn't find the characters annoying at all.
Given how it was almost impossible to find chapters at the time, my reading was incredibly disjointed and incredibly hard to remember, nut from what I do remember, Ruby and Sapphire were great characters, and the plot surprisingly engaging, given how... biased I felt about the arc. And Wally's intended role? You mean be the Emerald counterpart? I think he was screwed from the start, although I have to say I would have liked him far better than Emerald.
I also can't remember Tabitha at all, but I doubt her design is all that bad, compared to a whole bunch of Ascended Extra characters... or Emerald.
I don't even hate the guy and yet I constantly put him down. Meh, it's what he gets for beating superior trainer Sapphire off-screen.

Wasn't it made explicit that Archie and Maxie were being driven mad by the use of the Blue Jewel and Red Jewel in their efforts to control Kyogre and Groudon. That one Team Magma goon went frothing mad just from slightly using the Blue jewel

Over 30 chapters. 10 chapters is not long at all compared to that.
I also can't remember Tabitha at all, but I doubt her design is all that bad
Tabitha's a he, and he was that Magma goon driven insane in the scan that got posted. Go look up how he looked like in the games and anime; he wasn't a hunchback with long, dangling hair in those.
And with Archie and Maxie: I just wasn't pleased with how they were still crazy and evil even after the conflict with Groudon, Kyogre, and the orbs was done. I liked it that they owed up to their idiotic mistakes in the games, so making them unrepetant monsters in the end didn't sit well with me.
edited 28th Dec '11 1:39:46 PM by ManwiththePlan
Well, in the games, their eco-terrorist plans were pretty stupid, so the only way to make them so driven and legitimately threatening was to make them batshit insane. Sane people don't try to flood or dry out the earth. The orbs just made them an itttttttty bit worse.
That's my take, anyways.

At the moment, Gen III is one of the favorite generations, especially on forums like Bulbapedia. It's the cycle of nostalgia in the series, Gen III is now the nostalgic golden child now that Gen II (the previous golden child) was remade.
And 10 - 30 chapter battles don't sound bad to me, I like long battles as long as they aren't just dragged on.

Actually, I hate the anime for making things drag on so long. The manga of Dragon Ball is much shorter... to put it in perspective: One Piece, Bleach and Naruto have broken 50 volumes now without finishing (One Piece is apparently around halfway, Bleach may only be one quarter of the way through) so yeah, liking those series is more likely the reason I don't mind super drawn out fights.
