Still, its kinda sad we're not even getting any streams or online articles by Namco themselves.
If anything we can hope that Bamco will do some kind of digital event instead of the E3...or they will just dump their trailers out. Still having some extended gameplay of Arise would have been sweet.
Yeah. I mean there's droughts of info and then there's complete nothing.
Edited by MightyKombat on Mar 12th 2020 at 2:14:08 PM
Yeah, when the last trailer teased the Token Mini-Moe of the party I assumed we would soon enter the phase were they would slowly introduce the party members one by one like they usually do.
This is why Directs are a rising thing these days.
@ Rob: Damm, I must be a genius! *Zelos voice* Cos I got the hang of Fatal Strikes almost inmediately. My favorite battle gimmick, 2nd being Fields of Fonons. And those took me 2 playthroughs to fully understand...
Super expensive skills have an advantage though: you get half their SP cost added on your max SP so you can equip more cheap ones. Aside from the base moves like Backstep and Magic Guard I would put the ones that give you more control as priority. Rita's Heavy / Light magic, Patty's Form change...
And yeah, I am also tired of so much secretism. I am supposed to believe no one will announce any games or trailers until the now-cancelled E3?
I got sent home from work because 'only absolutely needed staff will come until next month'. (¬_¬) I know the reason, but that's like saying I am not useful...

Wait, really? How? I never noticed that! Super expensive skills just take up a massive amount of my skill points and often leave me unable to equip other ones. I usually struggle to figure out which ones I absolutely need.
I tried reorganizing my artes, putting all the green ones for A + the left control stick, all the blue ones for the right control stick, and all the red ones for R + A + the Left control stick.
All I gotta do is remember Red for Flying and Magic enemies, Blue for Aquatic and Plant enemies, and Green for Beasts (which is easy now) and I'm set. The one thing I can't do is easily move from a Base Arte, to an Altered Arte to a Arcane Arte. Yuri always stops after the Altered Arte. I'll figure it out though.
Also, after you go through the Sands of Kogorh the first time, does the time of day ever change to night again? I need some Frost Stones again, and I ran out.
What I did was use the right stick for cheap artes to trigger Fatal Strikes with (Blue for the 'up' stick shortcut, etc.) and do the same with strong artes on the left stick + button with the intention of doing a full base > altered > arcane combo. Be careful that a full combo is a TP eater, though. There are skills that have a % chance of raising your max HP / TP on level up, they are nice to have when level grinding.
Speaking of skills, yes, you only get more max SP at level up (+1) or by learning skills (one that costs lets say 10 SP will raise your max by 5.)
About materials, check the Collector Book to see what enemies drop them, then click on them to see where they can be fought. I think time passes when you walk in the world map and by using a Tent?
Man, this whole quarantine crap is making me go through my current game (a Platinum beat'em up) at crazy speed. Yeah, I am a nerd with no social life so it was expected . I guess I will be able to start Bersy next weekend.

If Namco could just get off their asses and do some sorta stream or Direct so we can get ANY info on Crestoria or Arise, that'd be great because things are tepid as hell right now. I mean they did one for Gundam games for godsake.
So I have to admit that I have not been having more than one character (usually the one I'm controlling) go into Overlimits, because when I set my computer controlled characters to do so, they do so immediately (like, as soon as the gauge is high enough, depending on when I set them to do so).
The thing is, I don't want them wasting it, hence why I don't let them. That being said, I know there are benefits to having more than one person in Overlimits. I just trying to figure out how to take advantage of it properly.
I feel like there's a lot I don't know about multi character overlimits to be honest. Wondering if anyone's got any advice for me?
'I don't want them to waste it, so I stop them from using it'. That applies to a lot of Super Mode examples over the games' history. It's perfectly normal to avoid Artificial Stupidity. If you want to use Overlimit efficiently, this is what I used:
Level 1 overlimit when:
Multi-character overlimits only come into play with Yuri and Flynn's Dual MA. Other than that, the more meleers with overlimits the better for damage and combos, but only if they are human controlled.
(About to start Berseria! Wait for the report. For now, the arte lists, character dynamic, equipment system, skill learning, battle gimmicks... ALL of it is better than Zesty and its obtuse and player unfriendly subsystems! )

Also note that Rita late-game in Overlimit (Spell End skill and Tidal Wave spell) basically wins the game, and Violent Pain is an earlier accessible option that can stunlock bosses quite well. Tidal Wave is essentially undodgeable, and so if someone is giving you some serious trouble later on it can basically be used as a potential last resort to get rid of them later on, with OVL 3 being the best option for it since it removes TP costs from spells. Violent Pain is a good earlier option against Single Targets, though usually larger ones since smaller ones can sometimes walk out.
Lategame strat is to spam form change with Patty with the 'Critical gives her OL' skill, then spam Critical Moment until you get the effect that puts the entire party in to OL 3/4
That is good for massive damage or recovery, but I used Patty for the 10x Exp effect from her Critical Moment. It was about the only way to keep up with Telescopic Graveyard's increasingly strong monsters without a NG+. Overlimit was sorta easier to handle and less broken with Abyss' individual Ovl gauges...
Okay, first hour of my Berseria run! More to come.
Prologue: Velvet reminisces on how she ended up in prison and with a demon arm. On a night of a Scarlet Moon a 7 year old Velvet is carried by Artorius along her brother Laphicet. He managed to save them both from daemons (Hellions now, because CONSISTENCY, Namco.) but eldest sister Celica was not so lucky. Now 16 year old Velvet hunts prickleboars to make a living and pay her brother's medicines (those boars are a Phantasia reference, guys) and put princessia flowers on Celica and her baby's graves (princessias are a Xillia reference... there will be many more, and from all the games!) We learn that the Scarlet Moon caused many more hellions to appear and Artie is from a group called Exorcists, who can destroy them aided by the spirit-like Malaks (Seraphs from now on. Consistency.) Velvet goes to the forest and we get battle gameplay.
We met several semi-important characters like Niko the tomboy, and Ortie and Russ: the Cowardly Dogs. After the hunt the shopkeep knows Velvet wants a comb, but can't haggle for it. Laphicet is reading when we arrived home, and is worried about his sister's love life (hah!) Later we learn that he was translating a book for money to get the aforementioned comb. We will find him in the forest, and when we are about to grab some princessias a werewolf hellion comes at them! Artorius saves them and the lass has a lucid dream where the boy says 'I am gonna make a better world for you'. She awakes and the village is overrun by werewolves! You can't beat their HP regeneration so you are forced to escape fights. In the ruined shrine by the cliff Velvet sees how her in-law is MAGIC SWORDS OF LIGHT on her actual lil bro, and is furious. After being thrown in the pit some glowing dragon heads eat Laphi but spit her out, already with a dark arm we will call THE CLAW from now on. The ritual is over, and Seres (Artie's personal seraph who tried to restrain Velvet with fire on her limbs) as well as a bunch of other seraphs materialize. All the werewolves our girl crushed while enraged are reverted to humans. Niko included. The last thing we hear Artorius mention are his Arc Words: why do birds fly? Our scientist's answer:
(Okay. Graphics are Xillia's but a bit prettier. And 60 fps everywhere are astounding! Music is nice. Controls feel responsive and solid. Square and Triangle being artes instead of 'block' and 'menu' are gonna be a source of muscle memory related hiccups... Dungeons are small, yet filled with sparklies and crap unlike Zestiria's which were empty mazes of corridors. Battle Camera is good this time (YAAAY!) and you can choose your own arte tree instead of fixed ones... thumb up! We still haven't gotten all gameplay gimmicks yet: we learned about the soul gauge, but not what the L2 and R2 buttons do yet.)

Wait, is this your first time playing Berseria? I assumed you would’ve played it by now, but I could be wrong. Either way, enjoy the playthrough!
I research a lot, even games I dont think I will ever own... yet I end up getting them. There is only one Tales I have never touched, Rebirth. And even then I know a fair bit about it.
Anyway, have some more Berseria until next week.
Titania prison: the redhead seraph lady, Seres comes to our cell to give us a tutorial on quick
steps. She has sworn off Artorius and wants to help Velvet escape. She breaks the magic seal and both take their inappropiate boobers for a walk [Hey, is Kombat reading this yet?] Important info: Van
Airfread was the only prisoner to ever get out of here, and only because a certain Melchior dude let him. We meet a couple of strange fellows: the bloodthirsty samurai Rokurou and stage magician
Maggizhika Whats-her-oh-god-super-long-name. Maggie from now on. At the end of the dungeon we get into a scuffle with exorcist Oscar Dragonia and his posse of seraphs. Since he is chivalrous, he stops the battle to finish us with a sacrifice: one of the seraphs turns dragon and wants to eat us... but Seres blocks the first attack and offers her power to Velvet, the Sorcerer Ring! Which gives us this game's gimmick, the Soulbreaker artes. Now we can use THE CLAW in battle, Velvet takes her anger on Oscar and says goodbye by setting him on fire. Roku and Maggie tag along to escape in a ship (He got his sword back and is grateful, she... has nothing to do currently.) We shipwreck in a zone called Figahl Icecaps, near Hellawes.
Hellawes area: we arent reaching Artorius, seating comfortably in the capital city, until we find a
carpenter AND our compass back, taken by a small boy seraph with unsettling similarity to Velvet's
dead brother. This time, while she fights still alone, we learn that equipment gives you PERMAMENT
skills after earning enough Grade while wearing it. Have I mentioned, once learned, they are FREE,
unlike Vesperia? [Is Rob reading this?] Also, titles aren't earned via plot events but via several battle related milestones. So basically like Graces. We also learn about Katz chests, which grant attachments, and Potentites, that give all sorts of perks. (This place's shop owner is 'Kelvin', Destiny reference.)
Inside the city we discover that Dyle, the master carpenter, was caught smuggling Flamestones and
became a hellion after resisting arrest. We are presented with another exorcist, Teresa Linares,
and the Laphicet lookalike is with her. We also meet crying babyface Eleanor Hume, sad because the
Abbey has to split forces and still isn't enough to help everyone. A little girl spills the beans about Dyle's location, and get one of many famous APPLES scenes. We learn the Team Symphonia style of cooking and off we go to a cave.
Edited by FlightMaster on Mar 22nd 2020 at 5:04:21 PM
That reminds me I should...maybe get back to this game at some point I guess.
Velvet called, this is her message:
Velvet: 'I Have Boobs, You Must Obey!, play my game!'
(Did it work? Meanwhile, have more chronicles.)
Hadlow hollow: here I practice with setting an entire arte tree for a type of enemy (beast, wings and etc.) As well as inventory management (Gear drop rate is much higher than Zestiria's! I keep at least one of every piece and sell the rest.) Since the shops, regretably, work the same as in Zestiria, only sell what the shop stocks to avoid 'infection'. At the end of the cave I see Doctor Connors, eeer, Dyle turned into a lizard! This boss battle teaches us the Power Combo mechanic, the bread and butter of Team Destiny gameplay ('hit all weaknesses to increase the damage multiplier by a LOT'.) The poor chap was not the smuggler mastermind but rather a scapegoat. Velvet cuts his tail to show the Abbey he is been disposed off.
Hellawes again: Velvet blackmails the carpenters into repairing her ship with her information... but it is too damaged. In the church, Oscar informs Teresa of a hellion that eats her kind. The girl wants answers out of Maggie, who sings like a bird about her 'friends'. Velvet recruits Dyle to leave town: she will distract the exorcists while he sets Flamestones off and steals a ship. Teresa sends so many goons at us that I get the '20 souls in one fight' trophy! Dyle does his part but Teresa catches up to us in the port. Laphicet clone goes by 'Numbuh 2' and along silver haired Numbuh 1 helps Tere in battle. This was hard because Break Souls are our only means of healing in battle aside from gels and she does not fool around. Numbuh 2 gets grabbed by the THE CLAW and forced to make Teresa and Ele retreat via explosion. So, slave seraphs follow orders, but don't care about who gives them? That was convenient.

Have some report. No more until the topic ceases to be a zombie waiting for new Arise brains.
Vortingen gate: we reach here after being attacked by Airfread's pirates. Seems THE CLAW forgot to let the kid go after his order. We have a brief brawl with Eizen, piratey second in command, aka Edna's big bro! He wants an alliance with the 'demon that torched Hellawes' to cross the frontier. The onboard merchant is the 'Chat & Patty store'! And the ship is the Van Eltia, of Eternia fame! Eizen joins the playable cast shortly later, and we are warned about Dire Foes. I fight so much that I made the Hanged Man appear! Ran like a wuss, of course. We had our first meeting with White Turtlez and Numbuh 2 said Eizen's coin is a huge Phantasia reference with Dhaos, Martel and etc.
Inside the fortress. Numbuh 2 has proven hard to play, so Eizen is my man for now. He only gets Earth and Wind and he... punches things. But he is cool, he forced information out of a guard and recognized the kid's bag is made of Maurits Silk (Legendia ref!) After getting the key we look for the enemy's main ship, guarded by a noob who boasts about his Rangetsu style. Roku is offensed, so he skewers him and confirms his 'prey' works for the Abbey. The guy Eizen interrogated isn't happy to see his fortress vandalized, so he turns into Final Fantasy Demon Wall and teaches us about Blast points and Mystic artes. The seraph kid is about to fall to the sea and Velvet is LAPHICEEET before jumping to save him. Guess that's his new name! Finally we arrive at the main continent's port and learn about Expedition, which works like Xillia's Cat Dispatch.
Ok. I finally fought Belius.
She massacred me. Like, I couldn't do anything.
I know you're supposed to do something once she creates the double of herself, and the lamp that the lamps have something to do with it, but I was attacking them and having zero affect on them.
And then she just danced on my face. I gotta look this up again, and get it right.
Edit: Alright. Turns out I gotta light the candles with fire attacks. I is dumb. Very dumb.
Here I go again.
Edit 2: Alright. I beat her, though I botched the ending and wasn't able to finish it with a burst arte. I forgot which rates were my Arcane Artes all of a sudden.
I forgot what a huge number of wham moments this part had: Belius dying by accident because of Estelle. The realization that dead entellechia are Apatheia, Yuri being exposed for killing Ragou and Cumore, and then Judith destroying the Blastia and doing a runner.
That's a lot of shit for people to deal with.

This is the point where Vesperia's plot kicks into gear, until the Disc 2 Final Dungeon... and then it drops an enviromentalist message that clashes a lot with the early game, but would not be out of place in, lets say Symphonia. Both games are more similar than we think, what with a spirit race and hidden elves...
Okay, have some more Berseria, but I wont double post (I am much more ahead than what I narrate here!)
Loegres area: the port also presents us with the first batch of minigames: a 3d version of the old Eternian Chamballoon and a practice dummy called Slash Beat. 'Tales coins' are used to buy clothes and attachments. The shop is owned by Dunamis, so either Kyle or Loni, heh. About to leave we are warned about Code Red monsters, aka Mutant hellions. Hope they are not as unbalanced as Zesty's.
Danan highway! Adventurous, catchy music! And a tutorial about favorable / Dangerous encounters. Most places are locked until we reach the capital, so I press on. There is a checkpoint at the gates, of course. Maggie ad-libs an excuse about Velvet's dove trick. WATCH A VIDEO. NOW. So for now Magilou's Menagerie is free of suspicion. Artorious gives a grand speech from the castle's balcony... the entire area is very similar to Pendrago's plaza. Velvet has to stop her murderous plan before a thousand exorcists jump at her, so THE CLAW is all 'next time, Gadget, NEXT TIME!'
I shopped at Zelos Wilder's. Gee. After the 'Shepherds' speech the tavern is accesible, so we get some grub and an old lady reveals she knows how Human Laphi died. (PLOTHOLE. There were only 3 characters there. One is dead, another was in prison since then and the last never had any reason to talk about it.) But yeah, trust a lady that gives you the Tales staple Mabo Curry and opens the Waitress minigame. We are given 3 tasks before the Bloodwings spit Artorius' secrets.
1- Destroy boxes: go back to the port to burn some goods. L'nor arrives in a ship and is just in time to try and stop us. She was too easy of a boss! Well, we had a full party AND healers, which we didn't have agaisnt Tere. A black normin pops out to defend the crybaby, named Bienfu. As if on cue, Maggie jumps at him like a HAWK at a mouse! But we don't have time to see her commit mascot abuse, so we retreat.
2- Look for missing man: we must go to lake Galies and find Mendi. Its past the Danan road area that was blocked. We fight a couple mercenaries and discover slaves mining for Vermillion ore.
3- Stop the ambush: we go back to the area where we fought the orc kong and do an easy battle with monkeys. More red boxes... which contain medicine, with the seal of the Church.
So all tasks were related to Nectar, aka Fake Elixir. Tabatha rewards us with dirt on Artorius: he is in the Empyrean Throne preparing a ritual. How to cross the exorcists' barrier set up there? That's a different question, and to get the answer, the guild leader wants us to kill the priest Gideon, the one trafficking with elixirs. Oh man...
(Wait! Just before the dungeon, I get an optional flashback when Velvet remembers Artorius said he was trained by king Claudin Asgard. Sorey mentioned him once when nerding with Mikleo. He was the first Shepherd to be recognized with the title... and the first Lord of Calamity.)

Finally back in Dahngrest. This means I was able to head back to Keiv Moc and finally kill the Green Menace.
It felt good. I was even able to properly finish it with a Burst Arte like I'd wanted to against Belius.
Now it's time to head to the Manor of the Wicked, and then soon I'll be able to take care of some other things before getting back to the plot.
I believe you unlock the sidequest that gives you Karol's Mystic Arte after the Manor
Ah, mystic artes. They are a smidge harder to get than previous games. Yuri's you get with a plot mandatory weapon (that you will lose, so learn it asap!) Repede's is also from a sidequest, and the others will leave and rejoin the party with their Mystic arte weapon equipped (not sure about Rita?)
Does overlimit end when using a burst arte? If so, they are tricky to use as finishers, same with FS...
(No Berseria report here cuz this page is already friggin long as it is. Wait a bit more.)
