If anyone cares, Grandblue Fantasy is doing a collab with the franchise.

This is actually an old event they've rerun twice before.

There's another one with Tear and Stahn too.

About the poll... did not click, but I'd say that some 2D games have aged very well (Eternia comes to mind) and the 3D ones did as well except for Symphonia, which requires a bit of adjusting cuz lack of Freerun... which was THE breakthrough feature for the series.

If you excuse me I will go off tangent for a sec. I 'finished' my run of Xenoblade X at 120 hours (and I didn't even unlock ALL of Chapter 11's quests) The quotes are there because the last phase of the Final Boss is a hunk of bullshit so big I am still puking in my sleep. You bring a gun to a swordfight (the sensible option) and then not only the boss (predictably) drops the sword and takes out a fucking rocket launcher, but he also steals YOUR guns and forces you to fight bare handed. Basically, the Final Boss craps and pisses on a gameplay rule they've been hammering on your head since the start: Don't fight huge-ass monsters without your equally huge-ass robot. And when you take him to half HP, Papa Bear brings Mama AND Baby Bear over to fuck you even more.

Blah blah blah just use an Overdrive build. Or a 100 Resistance setup. Sorry pals, all of those 'solutions' require dozens of hours of extra grinding. I have more games to play, and a LIFE out of Planet Mira. If I was still a kid which only gets two games a year I would try, but I am not.

Okay, I am overreacting. For you, Tales Series tropers, I bring these questions. Has there been a Final Boss (or any other) that pisses you so much that you stop your playthrough there and then? I know the Puzzle Boss 'iness of Shizel is what makes me dread replaying Eternia, and some troper here confessed that s-he never finished Milla's Route because of that bitch Muzet.

Also... what is your grinding tolerance? As in how much grinding is 'too much' for you?

Alexei was it for me, between his bullshit MA and his Guardian Field healing him back to 50% HP he was the first boss in Tales that forced me to set the game on easy to get past him after wiping for hours on him.

[up][up] I can't readily think of any Tales Series boss who gave me a really hard time but Gnome in Phantasia is still a giant bag of dicks.

As for your complaints about the final boss of XCX, this would be a better discussion for the Xenoblade thread but you don't need any of the post-game builds to take down the final boss. He's hard, yes, but the key we've lost to beating him, if memory serves, is knowing when to be in your Skells and when to exit them. If you stay in your Skells during a certain phase, he'll use a move that drains all of your fuel but that move won't be used/won't have any effect if you're not in them. After that phase, you can get back in your Skells and get to work on him. The enemies that spawn on the ground aren't even that difficult so long as you've been properly maintaining your ground build.

Of course, that's not the only puzzle to that fight but, if memory serves, that's the answer to that one.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!

Barbatos 3 is incredibly frustrating to handle single player on the PS2 version of Destiny 2, even when you know what to do (timing on spell cancel requires a specific set of inputs).

I still haven't finished Rebirth because I know I'm going to fail the Duel Boss against Milhaust a lot. I can't Veigue at all, he's just so slow.

I found the Alexei boss during my second playthrough of Vesperia to be really annoying and I lost countless times. I eventually beat him, though, without turning down the difficulty.

Other boss fights that frustrated me are the fights against Yuan and Botta in Symphonia and also the fight against Kurt in Graces f.

@ Zelenal: I am thankful for your help but it just won't be possible. The Final Boss Rush was done like this:

  • The Great One (LOL) Phase 1: Not hard. A couple G-busters to the face take him to half HP so the second phase can start after a cutscene.
  • The Great One phase 2: Again, not hard. At half HP it will use an invincible barrier, disengage your target lock and go to the center of the room: the orb there keeps the barrier up (ONLY the center one! the others are decoys!) so destroy it and go back to the boss.
  • 10 small Chimeras: Easy enough if you have a Phoenix subweapon on your Skell. If it doesn't kill them outright, it will weaken them a lot.
  • Chimera King phase 1: AKA William Birkin. Like the first boss, not hard if you have G-busters and a F-wave for healing ocassionally. At half HP, cutscene and...
  • Chimera King phase 2: This is when the bullshit begins. If at any moment the boss sees you in a Skell, he will use an arte that drains ALL your fuel. At any moment. Unless he is in mid animation for another arte.

Zelenal: The enemies that spawn on the ground [Quimera Queen and at least 1 normal chimera] aren't difficult if you have been maintaining your ground build.

THAT'S the problem! Once I upgraded the shops to lvl 5 I finally blew my cash on lvl 45 armor with Beam, Electric and Gravity resistance. What does the last boss use? EXACTLY. Thermal, Ether and Physical! (What were the odds of that?) So yeah, fixing my mistake would take dozens of hours: It's not a Game-Breaker what I need, just TIME, real-world time that I don't have.

By the way, none here have an opinion on the Forced Level-Grinding? I know, the Tales Series is not usually an offender here, but do you remember any example? (F.e Abyss needs money grinding, same as Symphonia's Luin. Or Graces, which needs a dozen different types of grinding to get more Titles.)

The Great One? As in THE Great One?

Also, Xillia 2 sort of had money grinding and a pay wall that was absolute arse but otherwise I don't think I've run into that in most Tales games.

[up][up] There's a trick to the final phase but I just cannot remember what it is since it's been a couple of years since I beat the game. Also, for the money problems, just shuffle your probes around to maximize money making and then go run a couple of sidequests. You should have enough money to buy basically anything in short order.

As for forced grinding, I don't really mind it so long as there's a good grinding option. I tend to do a lot of grinding at various points anyway so the game telling me to do it is no big deal.

[up][up] I call them that to avoid spoilers and the fact that they are named characters that you meet pretty early in the plot.

[up] I know Zel, I know. I have Frontier Nav giving me 170k credits per tick, so money is not an issue. I completed ~150 sidequests. I ransacked the world of all available 'chests' at BLADE Rank 9. There is no other place to get money now than from probes... and those take time.

Hey, I remember something new to complain: Vendor Trash. Why the heck do I get only 1% of an item's purchase price when selling mine? Add that to the retarded item system (why can't I buy Potions and Revives en-masse like in every other RPG?) and well, Xenoblade 2 better make up for a lot of things!

This brings me to today's question / poll. Things or gameplay features that you wish your Tales Series saga finally learned from others?

(I have an example, but it's not Tales related...)

Okay before I speak can you PLEASE not use abelist slurs like that R word in future?

Anyway the Tales Series I think needs to learn to be a bit more confident in itself, especially in terms of better merch. Final Fantasy has Play Arts Kai figures with posability while Tales has been stuck on statues for god knows how long. Its about time it branched out at least once and it has enough fans that it wouldn't hurt to at least try.

Also it needs to learn from Elder Scrolls on how to make proper malleable Heroic Mime characters as well. Ludger was just lazy and misbegotten.

[up] (?_?) What word is a slur? (English not my first language... so sorry if it happens.)

Well, I was referring to gameplay features. In my example Disgaea needs to learn from the Battle Exp option Fire Emblem has, if not the strong get stronger and the weak Can't Catch Up. (it's not like Fire Emblem is perfect: it needs FIXED stat ups like every f*cking RPG. Empty Levels make Baby Jesus cry.)

Ludger should not have been an Heroic Mime at all. The option should only exist for your Descender / Narikiri Warrior / whatever. Ludger is NOT 'you', he is his own individual. Friendship levels and the dialogue choices can be kept, but they were insufficient to max every party member in one run. Basically it forced you to leave the bonus dungeon's completion for your NG+.

[up]Worth noting, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance did have a fixed growth mode after beating the game. Fire Emblem Heroes has fixed stats too thanks to the boon/bane system which makes you hate the Gatcha with even more of a burning fury than you already do makes one stat lower and one higher.

A corpse should be left well enough alone...

[up] Well, okay. Seems I can't just throw around any ill word I saw on the net, some are much more offensive. Like the 'jap' one. I'd have never known! surprised

[up][up] Mmm, too little too late. It should be an option from the start. The optional Final Death was a good step, IS. Keep improving.

Ah, I just remembered! Bravely Default had an option on the menu for Random Encounters rate: from 'every 2 friggin' steps' to 'none at all'. As well as one for adjusting Exp, gold and AP gain. More games should have that! Especially Tales Series! *waves fist at Namco*

So I saw this thing on twitter, some sort of art gallery thing called Tales Link 14.

With a title like that you'd think Sara'd make a cameo since, well, it shares a name with her home game.

But of bloody course not. Oh, but frigging KANA is super special enough to show up on the poster, just not the ACTUAL female fucking protagonist of the game.

So...do Tales fans just HATE Sara then? Do they just...not like her for any erason, stupid or otherwise? Why phase her out like this? For gods sake, I almost make her my absolute favourite Tales character out of pure spite for this.

Oh, bt they remember ARRIA FUCKING EKBERG, but fucking SARA's not good enough for them in something that shares her home game's name.

I'm not saying Arria's bad, yo, I'm saying Arria's pretty damn obscure to include front and center on the cover. The fact that Arria was remembered but Sara wasn't basically says even Tales fans seem to hate Sara now. I still don't get why.
