Seems like one of those that comes up often that it would be better to just automatically make it so that it doesn't try to make it a Wiki Word instead of having to put bracket/equal sign around it.

I don't see why this adjustment should be made because people are too lazy to use the markup.

It's fairly easy to check the "Related to" pages for each of those and fix all the errors. I just did DV Ds and there was only one.

Sometimes people aren't lazy, but they may forget and may not always realized what happened, especially if they don't think to use preview. After all, Wiki Words is something that's exclusive to here. People don't type something like DVDs and expect that it's going to show up as a Wiki Word.

I do, but that's probably a sign that I spend too much time here.

I already suggested this once. Apparently there were technical problems in trying to implement it.

There was a brief attempt to implement a rule in the parser that would automatically \[\= \=\] bracket initialisms ending with a lowercase "s", but it blew up rather spectacularly and hasn't been revisited since.

Oh dear. I'm quite interested as to quite what happened, but I think it's probably better forgotten, hm?

It was tested in the fora first. I don't know what it broke exactly but Eddie wasn't satisfied with the results.

Depending on how careful you were with defining the regexp, it might have had obvious false positives like AsYou Know or more subtle problematic implications like We Will Not UseATMsIn The Future.

Though I see no immediate possible issue with

(whitespace)(Capital Letter)(Capital Letter)+s(whitespace,punctuation)

or something along these lines.

We could just make "DVDs" a redirect to our article on the technology.

I'd be in favor of any \\b[A-Z]+[s]\\b being not automatically rendered as a Wiki Word. Then we can type stuff like RPGs, NPCs, CDs, DVDs, etc. without having to surround it in [=nowiki tags=]. And for those that do deserve to be wikiworded, we already have curly braces for that: {{NPCs}} or {{NPC}}s.

That'd be nice. Save time on cleaning up the Frequent Redlinks, too.
