Just ran out of ideas for stuff so I decided to start working on my Stealth Parody Massive Multiplayer Crossover Troll Fic called How I Saved The World While Taking Drugs. But I don't like that title, any ideas for a new title?
Hi, I'm a guy who loves a bunch of random stuff.![]()
Thanks. :) I picked that one because I thought of having her be from Transylvania.
Name ideas for this
◊ Transformers OC? Scorch-something?
He transforms into some sort of a small, fast fighter jet that i haven't decided yet. He's supposed to have more yellow, and propably less contrast, for a more flamelike appearance. The goggles are more part of his had, and those badges are cat magnets.
He was actually built by humans or some other alien species so regardless of continuity i'll use him in he wasn't "born" naturally for a transformer (whatever "natural" is in each continuity). It causes him to doubt if he's truly sapient or has free will, or if he's just imagining it, but he keeps his angst internal. He's one of the motorcycle OC's two comrades and The Heart of the trionote .

War-torn 20 Minutes into the Future Earth, as explained in the opening paragraph. The main action takes place in an unclearly identified desert (the state of the world is somewhat post-apocalyptic), but there's people of various nationalities/ethnicies involved on both sides. The head scientist is persian but i haven't decided on his boss, or what the villains' lingua franca would be.

~*bleh*~I got a...really weird question, at least to the standards of my usual questions.
As I was studying math - specifically, geometry - last night, I was stricken by the passage that "human minds are not inherently trained to provide proofs, be it in mathematics or everyday life in general, but if we use stories it could accustom our brains to the process of proof easier." (paraphrased)
That got me thinking...what if I actually make a story about rom-com story about a guy and four girls who are basically incarnation/personification/etc of scientific subjects, mainly math, physics, chemistry, and biology (so far)?
The question: What would be a clever name for each subject and the girls?
Here's what I got so far:
Math - Arith (Arithmatic)
Physics - Phyllis (I'll be honest, I'm still thinking through)
Chemistry - Chemilah (as in, Chemistry + Kamilah)
Biology - Biolet (self-explanatory)
The main character/narrator, is a former high school valedictorian-turned burnt out/depressed college dropout who was on the verge of suicide before meeting the girls.
And I'm trying to have him a subtle (or unsubtle) symbolization of philosophy, although by the end of the series he will become a doctor-turned astronaut.
Would the name "Phil Rosoff" be a bit too obvious?
Edited by dRoy on Apr 24th 2023 at 11:02:06 PM
Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.Phil O'Sabh feels better than Rosoff to me, but if you like Arith then either should be fine.
Some other random ideas:
- Mathematics - Matheline, Abacail, Gebrielle, Symmantha, Calcuray, Calcillian
- Physics - Physuki, Physelyn, Dyna, Dynamene, Quandace, Physka (mostly trying to avoid overlap with "Phil")
- Chemistry - (Chemilah is already the one that sounds most natural to me)
- Biology - Bionca?
Mathematics - Matheline, Abacail, Gebrielle, Symmantha, Calcuray, Calcillian
Physics - Physuki, Physelyn, Dyna, Dynamene, Quandace, Physka (mostly trying to avoid overlap with "Phil")
....
....Some of those are so perfect they are legit beautiful and get me teary eyed. (sniffs) Especially Dyna and Quandace! God, how did I not think of that! Oh man. Now my struggle is which ones I should pick! ![]()
Oh, and as for the guy, I decided to stick with Phil Rosoff anyway...because holy crap, there actually IS a doctor named Phil(ip) Rosoff.

A name totally unrelated to the concept of "super" or "soldier" would probably be most realistic, considering that it was very quickly figured out that naming your projects after what they do isn't a great naming practice actually, especially if you want any degree of secrecy.
I propose "Project Lighthouse" or "Project Baked Alaska" or "The Vicuna Project" or something like that.
Project Rand_adj Rand_noun (from lists of words that are three syllables at most), or Project ###ALLCAPS (where ### is zero to three random characters implying this is one of several related projects) until you find something that sounds awesome and mysterious.
I call this method Project Compound Lexeme.

ERROR: The current state of the world is unacceptable. Save anyway? YES/NOHow vaguely similar are we talking about here? Single-syllable? Rhymes with the "-aɪ" ending? If you're looking for the latter, try looking up Pashto or Uzbek names. Otherwise, the only name I could think of that vaguely resembles the English word is "Shohreh" (as in Shohreh Aghdashloo).
Persian has a couple of common-ish words for "sky". Sepehr is a valid masculine given name and sounds kind of similar to a few other common names like "Shapur" (M, the name of a Sasanian king) and "Sepideh" (F, "dawn"). The other word, asman, sounds pretty similar to the Arabic/Muslim name "Uthman" (also "Osman", "Usman", "Usmon" and so forth) — though it's quite rare in the regions that mainly adhere to Shi'a Islam, as the faith doesn't look too kindly upon the historical figure.
Finally, there's behesht for "heaven", which to my knowledge isn't used in a given name but is a fairly common surname ("Beheshti").
One day, we will read his name in the news and cheer.I'm still thinking about that thing about Dutch street-level superheroes/supervillains i haven't mentioned for a long time.
One of the villains is a burglar and petty thief with some sort of a wing harness he can use to glide, mostly just down. I thought he'd wear black with some minor gold and purple elements, so he sort of resembles a crow. He's a gambling-addicted asshole with issues and manipulative tendencies. He's also one of the most important characters, having a complicated relationship with the hero protagonist, both knowing the other's real identity from pretty early on.
I could have the names in english with implicit Translation Convention because it isn't like other superhero writers haven't done it, but i also don't have much in the way of ideas.
I searched for every word containing "crow", and the only full words that might be good for something are crowstep (roof structure common in Netherlands), crowfoot (poisonous flowers), and crowbar. The other option is naming him "something crow" or "crow something", but i can't think of anything for the other word. There's also an alleged idiom
◊ i found on google, but i don't know if it's legit or what you could get from it in dutch (or even what it is in dutch). Some sort of an idiomic or folkloric reference could be passable.
Ideas?

~*bleh*~
There's already The Crow
.
EDIT: Apparently caltrops are called "crowfoot" in both dutch and english (also the eye wrinklenote , but eh).

~*bleh*~Iron Crow, after the Elizabethan-era term for a prybar?
Occasionally I actually know what I'm talking about. :P

ERROR: The current state of the world is unacceptable. Save anyway? YES/NONukeli, for your Persian name that sounds like "sky", I found "Saeed"
. It has that "ai" sound in there and if the speaker doesn't pronounce the "d" at the end very hard, I feel like you could almost think it sounds a bit like "sky" and you just didn't hear the "k" sound.
I need a name for my slice of life, romantic comedy webcomic/webnovel.
The story is about a guy and four girls living together in an apartment building, with the girls who are implied to be basically incarnation/personification/etc of scientific subjects, mainly math, physics, chemistry, and biology.
The story does have a big overarching arc of the characters overcoming their flaws and excelling in their respective fields and career. However, it's mostly about daily interactions and shenanigans, as well as discussions/exploration of science and philosophy. Think of xkcd, but with much more basic level of math and science, and romantic comedy cranked up higher.
The working title is [Philosophiæ Quotidie Principia Mundanica], or PQPM in short, roughly meaning "The Mundane Principles of Everyday Philosophy", inspired by Isaac Newton’s seminal publication “Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica/The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy.”
(Yes, it’s such a horrifically butchered Latin that it borders on linguistic war crime. I genuinely apologize to anyone here who actually knows Latin, I’m open to correction)
Now, what are some other names that might suit this kind of work? I'd particularly love cheeky references to science and philosophy, doubly so if it refers to educated women.

Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.

And the pronunciation that I have in mind isn't entirely unfitting for a vampire, perhaps: sibilant at the start, and with a more-forceful second-to-last syllable, one that might bring to mind an "uhn" sound of biting or pain.
