Hi. Just reposting this, because I really need help with this. [1]
Feel free to ignore no.3 though if it is too difficult and/or stupid.
For the 1st question. How about Shugo Tenshi, literally "guardian angel"? Or just Tenshi-san?
2nd. You need those nicknames in Polish, Japanese or Russian? For the sniper rifle I'd recommed Ryś, means "lynx" (same writing in Russian), or Oyamaneko (means the same). For revolver — maybe, Angel's Eyes, in the name of Lee van Clief character?

These are very good.
Shugo Tenshi might work and I could turn it into a Running Gag where Matthew laments about being called that, both because he thinks he does not deserve to be called an angel (actually does) and because he finds it annoying.
Naming the sniper rifle "Lynx" can work out quite well too. For starters, he's a cat person and his girlfriend has tiger-related powers. Cat theme!
As for the revolver, I was thinking of something ironic. The original owner was a Parahuman hating bastard in Powered Armor, that was willing to instigate a genocide on global scale to get rid of all people with powers. Now, the current owner is a Parahuman, who willingly uses this gun to protect others and stop evil men. At first, I was thinking of naming it "Irony" or "Poetic Justice", but that felt a bit corny.
I like "Purger!
- I need alien units of time named
- eagleoftheninth asks if the aliens interact with humans
- I answer yes they do, among other species
- eagleoftheninth asks if it would be practical to use some sort of standardised natural unit
- I answer of course it would be practical but it wouldn't be realistic
I was thinking the Viporis names for the shorter units of time could have some rough parallels to our own, e.g. "ticks" or "clicks" for their seconds. But I immediately blanked out on how to continue the naming convention pattern with minutes and hours.
"Day" and "night" might warrant prefixes based on how much the gas giant is or is not in between the moon and the sun, e.g. fullbright-day for an uneclipsed sun. What do you think, too clumsy?
Where the moon is in its orbit around the gas giant would be a more important concern to Viporis society than where the gas giant is in its orbit around the sun, but they'd still want to keep track of both.

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.- If the name of a Judeo-Christian angel/demon, then logic dictates I should just go with "Sam(m)ael
" due to this
.
- ... Why?
- Ditto.
- See #1.
- ... I'm sorry, what?
well, it's easier to brainstorm by throwing out suggestions and see which one still sticks. It helps narrowing down the preferences for the final selection quite a bit, doesn't it?
That said, if you like, you could go for something completely original and get creative for the tank's name as well, by warping and altering words into a new shape or meaning.
For example: "Gospel of Enoch" (Enoch being the name of one of few privileged human beings who never died and instead got the honor of "walking with God" forever, due to his complete belief and faith in God that moved the deity to such degree that it willingly spared him from the "experience of death".)
Which would give some fearsome creed for a tank that might get seen as impossible to put down in the eyes of the enemies. A "immortal" tank, made by man, and "blessed by God".
This is just one example.

Tempting. I'll have to ruminate on this.
In the meantime, I'm looking for alternate names to use for the concept embodied by WH40K's Rogue Traders
— commonly summed up a combination of "freelance explorer, conquistador and interstellar merchant". They're basically given full authority to command a small fleet of warships, merchant vessels, and what soldiers and civilians of various stripes those starships could carry to travel beyond the boundaries of the Imperium of Mankind's territory to explore uncharted space for worlds, exploit them for any natural resources or artifacts they may hold (and damn any natives that get in the way that the Rogue Traders don't see fit to care about), establish new colonies (though not necessarily sustainable ones; some Rogue Traders see that their responsibility ends right after off-loading the colonists and their gear), trade with isolated human-inhabited worlds, and even wage war upon the enemies of the Imperium (be they heretics, aliens or even the forces of Chaos). Sometimes they may even be employed by wealthy or powerful Imperial aristocrats or plutocrats as privateers to prey upon their rivals' merchant ships that are operating in non-Imperial space.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Rouge Trader, huh? I'm honestly not very knowledgeable about WH 40k. My only sources of knowledge are Dawn of War 1 and 2 (3 is nonexistent to me), Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2 and If the Emperor Had a Text-to-Speech Device (love the series).
Let's see. Considering that they're explorers, merchants and conquistadors, would "Galactic Privateers" work? I thought of that because these Rogue Traders you mentioned have history of being hired by aristocrats to prey upon their rivals' merchant ships. That technically makes them pirates for hire (basically mercenaries). I wish I could give you something better than this.
Anyway, I need help with naming drones for the book I'm planning. Remember Pavel? (a little reminder here: [1]
In his backstory, Pavel received 2 custom made drones from Takeshi Kobayashi, the Big Good for Japan storyline. It was, in a way, an invitation to work for him. Despite his disability [missing eye and right arm (his dominant arm)], his Technopath powers and talents were valuable. Since of his abilities allowed him to see what a machine sees, the drones helped him compensate for his lack of depth perception. Jokingly, he named these drones Huginn and Muninn, after Odin's ravens.
He would later receive 3 additional drones after Huginn and Muninn were damaged when attacked by Atsusechi (Holy Order of the Red Moon, a.k.a Nationalist and xenophobic terrorist group wanting to restore Imperial Japan) [thanks again Titan Jump]. I need name for those 3 drones and I want to know if Huginn and Muninn are good names.
P.S If you're wondering, Huginn and Muninn will be fixed and upgraded. One would have a speaker and the other a taser. Should the two have the same upgrades? I will become a great writer one day! Hopefully...
Sorry. I wish I could give you something better than this. The other names that came to me were "Surveyor Corps" or "Expeditionary Company", but it would exclude one of their roles (explorer, trader, conquistador) and would indicate that they're more or less a branch of a nation's navy.
I think I'm better with naming things related to ground combat.

How about "The Pickmen"?
It's a small shout-out to the ghoul species mentioned in "Pickman's Model" (The Lovecraft story in the Cthulu Mythos), which is basically just a different kind of people which feeds on the dead and can be reasoned with assuming one knows their language. (in the case of your story, that language being "money").
They tend to follow their leader of the pack, and do whatever the leader tells them to, when not out to secure food, have fun, or breed among themselves.
A pretty life-savoring bunch, hideous as they are.
The actual definition of the word "pickmen" are the one used for the ones using the picks in a mine, the hard workers...and the one in charge of the pickaxes.
It's a double-meaning in this context though, considering how they can take, in your story, jobs that works on the dark side on the moral code.
It's short and easy on the tongue when used in a conversation.
How does it sound?
—-
Your drones...
They have a distinctive function yet?
If not...
1) "SENE" ("See No Evil"): Combat drone with weaponry aimed to nullify and assault the sense of sight in targets (flash-bang, teargas and the like), also, used to shut down electronic surveillance systems hostile to its owner. Can render robots and androids blind as well. This including firewalls to avoid detection.
2) "HENE" ("Hear No Evil"): Combat Drone with weaponry designed to nullify the sense of hearing, (The loud part of flash-bangs, supersonic sounds, anything that render the target deaf for a short while.), also got a offensive and defensive cyber-arsenal aimed to shutdown electronics in terms of listening devices, allowing its user to use safe lines of communications that are incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to eavesdrop in on and hack in order to track down their location electronically. Also good when it comes to shutting down tracking devices.
3) "SANE" ("Say No Evil"): The one designed to shut down communications, of any kind, in its targets, may it be over electronic radio, phone-calls and communication in overall. This to disorganize hostiles working in squads, preventing them to call for reinforcement or update the situation on the field, and even keep them from communicating with each other over ear-pods. It also include alarms in buildings and cars alike, preventing them from "calling" for help.
How about these as suggestions for droid-names?
About those 3 drones (all three are flying drones btw):
- First one was a surveillance drone, equipped with better cameras and speakers than Huginn and Muninn. This drone is capable of emitting supersonic sounds. In addition, it also has a microphone and is armed with smoke grenades and flash-bangs. It is support-oriented drone, used to scout the area, eavesdrop on people and provide combat support. Why the speaker? Aside from supersonic sounds, Pavel uses music to convey messages. By playing certain song, he can alert them to a specific threat. For example, when he realized assassins from Atsusechi infiltrated Kobayashi's mansion late in the evening, he played "Fear of the Dark" by Iron Maiden (specifically, at the mark 1:43) behind one of them loud enough to warn everyone and mark their position.
- Second one is a combat drone. This one is a result of reverse-engineering Pure Humanity Army's technology. The drone is equipped with a grenade launcher. With different types of munition at it's disposal, it can tackle different types of enemies. As you may guess, it's main purpose is fire support. Additionally, this drone is strong enough to lift Pavel. He can use it as a form of transportation to latching onto it. With it, he managed to save himself when he was thrown out of a tall building.
- Third drone was designed specifically for a Technopath like Pavel. This particular drone makes his work as a cyber-saboteur much easier. Aside from electric pulse that can short-circuit most mechanical threats and shock people like taser, it has all the functions meant for cyber combat you mentioned, Titan Jump. Additionally, this drone amplify in a way Pavel's powers, as it extends the range of his abilities. This one was based on GREMLIN drone from XCOM 2.
With these drones, Pavel becomes an invaluable asset, in and out of combat.
I will become a great writer one day! Hopefully...Does "RealityApp" sound like a good choice as a name for a mobile app that allows the user to freely alter everything in the universe around them, in the sense that it obfuscates in plain sight its true nature via implying a false connection to reality television
and the like? If not, what do you guys suggest?
EDIT: How about "MesmeReality" for a version of the above app where the reality-rewriting is done through "hypnosis" (which was originally called "mesmerism" in the early days of the practice), with the intended meaning of "use the power of super-hypnosis to make your desires into reality" being obfuscated behind the facade of "This app allows you to easily do real hypnosis like stage magicians do"?

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I'm making the names for a select few countries in my story. Its a fantasy setting with a tiny dash of sci-fi. The countries I'm having difficulty naming are called Oltega and Seaport as placeholders.
Oltega is a Wretched Hive city known for its mad science and highly illegal practices. Seaport is a harbor city that sees a lot of trade from neighboring countries.
What's their culture like? How do they revere their deity? What's the deity like? If you can help paint a picture, it'll be easier to give a name.
I'm writing a story about a girl who finds a magical gem that transports her to an enchanted house. The house grants the girl whatever she wants and changes into whatever she considers the ideal home. Also, time slows down while she's there; a minute inside the house is six hours in the real world. She could theoretically stay in the house an entire year and only a day would pass, and she would only age by a day as well.
The house itself legitimately has no flaws, as it only exists to make the occupant happy. But, as time goes on, the girl finds herself growing more and more dependent on the house, frequently using it to escape from the burdens of reality, and she also learns that there have many others before her who met the same fate, unwilling to face the real world and eventually exiling themselves to live in the house until their dying days.
What's a good title for this? I thought of "The Escape House", but that sounds like a horror story. I also considered "The Escapist's House", but that spoils the twist that the whole thing is about escapism.
RIP KissAnime.![]()
you could always use a name from existing mythology https://www.sharksider.com/shark-mythology/
Seeing that my question regarding the drones was ignored (aside from Titan Jump. Thanks you, but that's not what I had in mind), I had to find names myself.
The first idea is to name the drones after Moirai, or Fates from Greek mythology. Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos. I was only sure to name combat drone Atropos, as she cut the thread of life. Can't decide on which should be Clotho and Lachesis.
Second idea was to name them after Japanese gods (would make sense, as it was given to him by Japanese). Susanoo, Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi. But, I don't know which drone should be named after them to make sorta logical.
The last idea was to name them after Valkyries. Since the owner of these drones already named some things after Norse mythology (Ragnarok tank, Huginn and Muninn drones), it would make sense. Brynhildr for combat drone, Eir for surveillance drone and Sigrun for personalized drone.
I still can't decide which one would be best. Now, the rest of you guys:
- Marq FJA, the name of this Rewriting Reality app is very fitting (thanks for mentioning that little information about hypnosis original name), but I can't help you more with it. This whole concept is complicating to me. Sorry again for a weak reply.
- sifsand, Oltega reminds me of Zaun from League of Legends. Overall, the name is good, but how did you came up with it? As for Seaport, how about naming it after one of the historical merchants or explorers? Port Magellan for example?
- Adept Gaderius, I don't know how to name that deity. But, I think I might have an idea for the shark people. How about Aumakua? In Hawaiian mythology, Aumakua is a family god, often a deified ancestor. There are many Aumakua and it can take form of a shark.
I apologize if my reply is a bit lackluster or not very creative. I will become a great writer one day! Hopefully...
First off before my questions, replies:
- sifsand, Port Cabot can work.
- Delphine The Delphox, how about "Happy House" or "Providing House"? After all, the house gives anything the girl wants.
Anyway, I need help with names for the novel I wish to write.
The first thing is a name of currency. Basically, I wanted European Dominion to have one currency and I didn't want to use Euros. My dad recommended me to use of older European currencies.
The second thing is giving names to the characters. A father and his 4 children. They are Kobayashi family:
- The Father and the Big Good for the Japan storyline. I called him Takeshi Kobayashi, but I think "Takeshi" doesn't fit in. He's has a dream - to end worldwide the hatred between Parahumans and ordinary people, and turn Japan into a beacon of hope and prosperity, an example for other countries to follow. A master negotiator and Doting Parent, who will turn into a Papa Wolf if anyone dares to harm his children. His powers is Weather Manipulation and is one of the most powerful Parahumans in the world.
- The eldest child of the four. For the time being, let's call him A-kun. He's a "Well Done, Son" Guy, who wishes to follow in his father's footsteps. He loves his siblings and wants to give them a good example. With him, Big Brother Instinct is in full effect. His powers are of Light 'em Up nature. He's so proficient with them, that Pavel (mentioned here [1]
) during the mock battle where he wiped the floor with his entire class, he deemed A-kun the only legitimate threat. He's 18 during the events of Japan storyline.
- The second eldest child. Let's call her B-chan. She's the reason why her father started hiring veterans of Eurasian War to protect his family. She got kidnapped and almost sold to Pure Humanity Army by a Yakuza gang and her former/wiped-from-the-face-of-the-Earth-by-her-father caretaker. Throughout this whole ordeal, she went through Traumatic Superpower Awakening, unlocking her psychic abilities. She is very smart, yet shy and distrustful. She has a habit of reading other people's minds. She ends up bonding with the foreigners her father recruited and they helped her overcome her trauma. She will become a main character in Arcadia Island storyline, where she would attend the prestigious Olympus Academy for the talented Parahumans. She's 15 during Japan storyline and 18-19 during Arcadia Island story.
- The third child. Let's call her C-chan. Chuunibyou and a big fan of European culture, but not reaching Foreign Culture Fetish (or westaboo) levels. She is surprisingly good at English, to the point of being the unofficial translator for her classmates and even her siblings when interacting with the European veterans. Also, she is a talented artist. She can draw manga. Out of all foreigners recruited to protect her family, she pesters Pavel the most, as he is the most knowledgeable about Europe (he traveled a lot with his family every summer and knows a lot about Europe's history). Her Chuuni mannerisms are possibly a coping mechanism after her mother's death. C-chan has power over water and ice. She is 15 during the story.
- The fourth and youngest child. Let's call him D-kun. A Badass Bookworm, as he inherited his father's Weather Manipulation powers. Very clever and crafty. He gave C-chan an idea to draw a manga, using new caretakers (including the veterans) as an inspiration.
Okay, this is it. Sorry for so much text. I hope I didn't went overboard again.
I will become a great writer one day! Hopefully...
About first question. How old currency you want, from European countries before euro adoption, or older, from 19th, 18th or even Middle Ages? For the pre-Euro currencies, I would recommend you Franc
. For the older one — maybe, Thaler
?
For the second question — can you made some clarifications? At first — you want for your characters Meaningful Name or just suitable?
Meaningful Name for family members, if you will.
And, Franc might be good. I was thinking of currencies before the countries adopted Euro.

Options for "X"
1. "Lucifer"
2. "Dragon"
3. "Heretic"
4. "Camael"
5. "Wormwood"
