- I need alien units of time named
- eagleoftheninth asks if the aliens interact with humans
- I answer yes they do, among other species
- eagleoftheninth asks if it would be practical to use some sort of standardised natural unit
My answer: Of course it would be practical to have a galactic standard way of measuring time. But it wouldn't be realistic to use it everywhere. You know how people are about learning alternate ways of measuring anything after they've grown up with one way (e.g. the great meters versus feet debate or this webcomic robot finding out someone uses binary differently
). If the mixed-species quasi-superhero organization is using galactic standard time while trying to evacuate civilians out of the way of an enemy's Orbital Bombardment or invasion or something, only some (not all) of the civilians would recognize how much time the organization says they have left before doom.
Then there's the other thing to consider: The way Viporises measure time is tied to how they keep track of the heat and light and the patterns of where and when particular volcanoes get better or worse on their volcanic Death World. This in turn affects where and when they hunt, when they seek shelter or go nomadic, when their mating "season" is, etc. The quasi-superhero organization need to know enough about that to avoid blunders like suggesting the wrong continent to evacuate to.
If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.I have this group that is afraid of specific advancements in certain tech fields and believe that they will lead to disaster. They warn that nano-machines might develop into a plague, that artificial intelligence could lead to computers wiping out organic life, or that those who are given cybernetic enhancements may believe themselves to be superior to others and try to overthrow the government. This group feels so strongly that technology will lead to disaster that they are willing to commit acts of terrorism to keep people safe from these disasters. I just can't think of a good name for this group. I'd be willing to use a short acronym, like the IRA or FLQ, but I can't think of anything short and descriptive.
How about Neo-Luddites?
The "Defence Against Technology Organisation" (DATO), perhaps?
Or alternatively, the "Defence against Technological Catastrophe Organisation" (DTCO)?

My Games and Asset PacksHmm... Looking at a thesaurus, perhaps "Radical"? It suggest both something out there, an innovation—and also something that goes too far.
My Games and Asset PacksHmm. Radical Technology sounds like a phrase they would use. And there are a lot of words that end with RT. Actually, if I go with ___ Against Radical Technology I've got most of a word. Like, maybe Citizens Against Radical Technology. I think that might work. Thanks.

I've seeking an original term to name my Warhammer 40k Dreadnoughts Expy. In the beginning I choose name 'The Old Ones', but now realized that this name sounds generic and rings some unnecessary bells to Lovecraft Mythos

The Black Titans.
Fear Knights/ Warrior

Now...I want to name a ideology. I'm working with the beta name of "Humanism" but it's just a patch.
The ideology is used for the token Democratic Republic Of Tyranny. Which was legitimately started with good intentions...and a fair amount of Authoritarianism, which survived even when it really has no.justification.
The "Core tenents" of the ideology are:
1) Improving the quality of life of humanity
2) Ensuring the expansion of the ideology
3) Opossition to Violence except in Self defense (with very tenuous views of what's self defense)
4) Opossition to all types of Imperialism (again, with dubious definitions of Imperialism)
5) Valoration and pride of humanity itself. Human's creatity and intellect is seen as the most important thing in existence
Later in the In-Universe timeline, there more variants that all considerate themselves the Evolution of the ideology.
Watch me destroying my country
How about this one?
"Adamism"?
("Adam"(The first man in the bible)+"Ism")
Because, in accordance to religious texts, "Adam" was (supposedly) perfect...until "Eve" (supposedly) ruined him and had them both thrown out from "perfection" as a consequence.
The symbolism is there...does it sound right for what you're looking for?
EDIT: Sorry, scratch that, I just saw that it was already taken by another work...

How about "Promanism"?
(Pro+Man+Ism)

Dreadnaughts already sound edgy for me, so I tried to find something that sounded like it
Now...What about: High Walkers?
Now, for my fictional ideology
That sounds like a name for a group, not a ideology
![]()
That may work

They actually avoid anything close to Abrahamic theology. And I feel that Promanism sounds too much like Pro-Humanism or to some weird MRA group

Watch me destroying my countryI need a name for an secret, shady organization. Its main purpose is to protect the mundane universe and humanity from terrorist, alien, supernatural and interdimensional threats from alternate dimensions. It researches and reverse-engineers discarded exotic tech and materials scavenged from extradimensional visitations to produce weaponry and equipment designed to combat said threats.
This organization of yours reminds me of XCOM.
The simplest name that comes to my mind is "The Watch", "Watchers" or "Sentinels". If you want something more extravagant, how about "Xeno Hunters" or "Eternal Guardians"? Sorry if they might be a bit weak or corny, but I can't think of anything better. If you could tell us more about this organisation's past, maybe we could draw inspiration from it?
Btw, my post from the top of this page was ignored? Was it because I broke a rule on this thread, or was it simply too difficult/annoying/stupid to answer? I'm not asking because I'm salty, I really might not be aware of me breaking the rules here.
@ArcticDog18
The titular organization started out as a organization established by the US government to collect exotic tech and materials discarded by interdimensional invaders after being foiled by the Indigo Alliance, a team of superhumans gathered from various dimensions.
The organization researched the technology to develop weapons and equipment. After several extradimensional incursions, especially the horrific Immolation of New York, the organization was encouraged to research and develop more weaponry and equipment to combat terrorist, supernatural and extradimensional threats that occur in this world as well research on interdimensional travel.

As far as I know (caveat, I'm a newbie to this thread too) you're not breaking any rules. It's just that some queries leave us all scratching our heads. I'm guessing the inspiration is just not flowing for your query.
I need a Neon Genesis Evangelion-themed name for a Baneblade
. The name "format" that I've settled upon is either "Gospel of X" or "X's Gospel", but I'm stumped on what to put in place of the X.

Hi again. I need help with 3 things. 2 are related to my book and one for my Shin Megami Tensei / High School D×D crossover:
In a nutshell, he's a Martial Pacifist Good Is Not Soft kind of guy, who was a medic during the war and his powers allow him to open portals almost anywhere he wishes as long as certain requirements are met. After the war, he was invited to Japan by the Big Good Takeshi Kobayashi to work for him, in exchange for receiving special medication for his condition (mentioned in the bio). He particularly sought him out, because of how useful his powers are and because he's one of the very few people in the world who managed to kill Pure Humanity Army's Paladin. His war nicknames include: "Guardian Angel" (for saving many lives, including Russian soldiers, who repaid him by saving his life) and "Charon" (as he used his powers to help transport dead soldiers back to their respective countries for burial). He hates those nicknames.
Sorry for the (I hope) small wall of text. And, to be clear, I've been writing this for 3 hours. So, I apologize for accidentally interjecting.
I will become a great writer one day! Hopefully...
