Actually, I read a bit about the games' story and the general lore, so I think I know the basics, like who the Chozo are, Ridley and Mother Brain's relationship with Samus, and the big twist from Fusion, among other things.
Something I'm kind of curious about is...what's up with Kraid? Like, he appears in three of the main games, he has a name and was one of the main villains from the original Metroid, yet he doesn't appear to have any backstory or personality, like Ridley or Mother Brain (granted, from what I've seen those personalities are better shown on the manga, but I'm not sure if it shows anything from Kraid).
Who is he? Some generic goon they found on Zebes? A Non-Malicious Monster they forced to work for them? A random dragon who got lost in the caves and is taking his anger out on Samus?
Just a simple man, making my way through the Tropes. We never find out what Kraid's deal is, no. Not even sure if he's a native of Zebes.
The only bit of lore that you should probably know going into Zero Mission that it doesn't outright tell you, is that Ridley killed Samus' parents. Everything else that's important is implied. The game does have those art galleries that show her backstory, but I forget what you have to do to unlock them.

Kraid has a baby or a brother or a fanboy or something
Anyway, you blow up his mini Kraid so maybe that’s why he’s mad

Forever liveblogging the AvengersTBH @Angry_Clown, like a lot of games from the NES and SNES era, you can make up whatever you want about any bosses who don't really have much lore to them. It's more fun that way sometimes.

Oh yeah, I knew the thing about Samus' parents; as I've said, I know the basics, which just makes it more cathartic when I kick Ridley's ass.

Yeah, I'm not bummed about it, I was just wondering, considering Kraid's kind of a recurring character, you'd think there'd be a little more to him than just being...Kraid.
Also also, I don't know how this lead to people shipping Ridley and Kraid, but I now consider it my crowning achievement on this site

Just a simple man, making my way through the Tropes.Poor, poor Kraid. Mother Brain and Ridley get all the attention, get retconned into these huge deals with personal connections to Samus, while Kraid is just... Kraid.
I swear, Ridley was just another boss in the first game, and in Super he's the one who grabs the Metriod simply because he was the only boss from the first game that could fly. But those appearances made him really popular, and how he's Samus' arch-nemesis.
Fun fact; Kraid was supposed to appear in the first Prime, but it didn't work out. You can still find concept art of him.
(x4) I have all the pages bookmarked, I just need to dump it all into a document that I can turn into a Just for Fun page at some point. We actually have two different pitches I think, since we did some retooling after Dread came out to account for her evil Uncle Raven Beak.
(x3) Without checking, I believe that MB was the evil Alpha Bitch rival, but neither she or Samus knew that they were also enemies outside of campus, since they both operated under secret identities. So the drama.
...You know, for Nintendo's "darkest" franchise, we sure do get into all sorts of silly shenanigans in this thread.

For the record, the 3DS remake of Metroid II does actually do some Canon Welding with the Prime trilogy that's much more appreciable if you played the Prime games first.
