Prime 2 is a game I was kind of lukewarm about my first time through, but on repeat playthroughs, I've actually come to enjoy it a lot more. I'm not quite sure why that is. Maybe its the setting, Aether seems quite different to other places Samus has visited, and the conflict between the Luminoth and the Ing makes for a unique story for the series. I would love to see the Luminoth return in some way in Metroid Prime 4.
My one biggest gripe with Prime 2 thought is that I HATE the Emperor Ing fight. All the phases, but especially the first and last, are so damn finicky and its so easy to waste ammo.
I would say I like 1 and 2 equally, with 3 and little lower than both.
I really like Prime 2 and it competes with Prime 1 for the top spot in my mind.
My only real gripes are that Chykka takes too long (its first phase should have half the health it currently has) and that in some cases, standing around in a safe zone waiting for it to heal you gets tedious. Also I dislike the ammo system, but with how powerful the Light and Dark Beams were it makes sense.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I'm also fond of Echoes; I borrowed Prime 1 and played it once before buying Echoes new and playing it a whole ton before I ever got to play the first game again. I like the design refinements, especially all the suits, and the way the world is connected compared to the first game.
Even the base Varia Suit looks so much cooler in 2 (and 3) than in 1.

The story of Aether and everything that happened on it is really interesting. First the decades long Luminoth/Ing War, then pirates come, which brings Dark Samus and the Federation, then Samus, and there's a big fight between Samus and the Federation vs Ing vs pirates vs Dark Samus, and each faction either gets wiped out, or has a terrible day. Samus got mugged and had her powerups stolen and had to scour the planet for them, Dark Samus got blowed up three times, the Luminoth were five minutes from being wiped out, and everyone else did get wiped out. I'd like to see the Luminoth show up again in some capacity, though it would almost certainly have to be in a Prime game.
Man, the Prime series and the whole Phazon parts of the story is some real good horror.
I wonder what in that hypothetical universe, corrupted Phazon Samus is doing whenever she overloads on Hyper Mode.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"There was a time where my Gamestop had piles of Other M they couldn't sell with single-digit price tags. Fun times.
You are not alone.@powerpuffbats
I'm quite particular to MP 1 myself. A few of the designs like the War Wasps just looked better there. I did like the databooks from the later games much better since it showed the full character models.
That is nice, but the X-Ray look that the Creature entries in MP 1 also have a charm. It feels so analytical.
In all 3 games I like the Logbook a lot. Would a great way to expand on the story for the people who want it, or just let people focus on the gameplay if they just want that.
Chapter 9 of Gamerthumb TV's Metroid video series is finally up, chronicling the events of Super Metroid.
Next up....Other M.
Been looking forward to how he's gonna handle that one.
One Strip! One Strip! It really is odd how Mother Brain never took off as a villain the way Ridley did; You'd think, that the rebel creation of her bird dads, in a way both her sibling and her surrogate mother, would be something/someone Samus also had a deep-seated rivalry with.
But I guess 'Space Dragon she wants revenge on' is much easier to include. Don't need to specify why Ridley is somewhere. She hates him, he hates her, if they know the other is around they're gonna try and nuke the other to death.
I guess it's because Ridley has things like showing up more, a unique boss theme, and the memes of being too big to be in Smash.
Hell, the last time MB showed up, it was in Other M in anime girl form and with a really crappy boss fight.
But at least Super Metroid gave her a really cool boss fight.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"A character like MB def needs to have lines and a constant presence to leave more of an impact.
Like look at Glados. She's a similar character to MB in the sense they are stationary female machines that antagonize the female protagonist journeying towards an unknown area and are only really met at the end of the game.
But Glados has a personality and lines to make her stand out, Mother Brain doesn't.
Ridley as a character is far more expressive even without lines since he's a flesh and blood being who isn't limited to one area.
The most memorable MB got was when she turned into a monster at the end of Super.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Mother Brain was a memorable and iconic villain back in the 80s and 90s. But that all changed when Fusion and Prime came out. A new generation of Metroid fans didn’t get to meet the Space Pirate Leader because they were dealing with a new threat. The only consistent Pirate character was Ridley, which likely cemented Ridley as THE pirate leader.
The irony is that caused Mother Brain to fade into obscurity is due to the Metroid series wanting to move away from classic villains in favor of new threats. This is why Ridley missed out on Dread and Raven Beak was killed off for good at the end of his proper debut. Now, villains in Metroid are going to be judged by impact they have on the player rather than being recurring threats.
I mean, besides the games, all she had was...Captain N the Game Master.
Yeah not the best for her profile or anyone else's really.
I do think it was a good idea that the Manga added her to the Chozo lore though.
Come to think of it, Raven Beak did certainly take inspiration from Ridley and Mother Brain in the Manga.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Raven Beak was all about power for power's sake. We can't say for certain what Ridley's like, unless you want to refer to the manga of dubious canonicity, but I imagine it's some mixture of powerhungryness, and love of carnage. Which makes me wonder what a meeting between the two of them would be like. They'd probably be on opposing sides, but there may be some Not So Different/Worthy Opponent going on between them.

So, I’m gonna be that odd person that actually likes what I’ve played of Echoes more than what I’ve played of Prime 1.
Also getting Prime Trilogy digitally on Wii U was a great deal for me when I did it last year because I wasn’t able to make money at that time and getting three Metroid games for $20 is a steal of a price.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!
