Samus is a “you take a swing at me, you better kill me” kind of threat
Given that the BSL conspiracy group was a discredited faction of the government they probably don’t have the resources to go to war with Samus “trips over resources on her morning walk” Aran
Plus, in a meta sense, there’d already been two games dealing with evil government conspiracy and one of those two is heavily reviled. Makes sense to try a different plot
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWhat's dumb is that in Other M's Japanese ending, it's made clear that most of the ringleaders of the corrupt Federation splinter were identified and arrested, while the English version doesn't address it at all.
So Fusion's plot is presumably conducted by what's left of them.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!See, the thing about that is, at least some of the group HAD to have survived the fallout of the Bottle Ship incident, simply because they were still active during Fusion.
Back to the insignias for a second. I already mentioned Dane's hat,
◊ General Miles' helmet,
◊ and Adam's four point star insignia on his hat,
◊ but I missed the emblem that shows up when scanning Trooper logs in Echoes.
◊ That makes three different insignias associated with the Federation, or the Federation military. But the space pirates don't get one. Closest thing I've got is the thing that appears on the doors ot the hangar bay when you escape the Mother Ship in Zero Mission and I can't even find an image of that.

I believe I've heard that mentioned as well.
In Japan, they cleaned up the rogue faction pretty quickly after the entire thing was done with.
I guess they figured they'd still be a thing going forward in the U.S. version.
One Strip! One Strip!I'm currently working my way through Dread. Great game, if pretty challenging.
Also, does anyone else find it ironic that the only Metroid Magnificent Bastard comes from possibly the least popular game? Like I don't hear MB mentioned as much as Mother Brain, Ridley, SA-X, Dark Samus or Raven Beak. Does it have more to do with the association of the game?
Or maybe it's because she lacks a badass design and intimidation factor that the others have. MB's just a human-looking woman who talks perfect english in a franchise where most of the BigBads are nigh-unstoppable alien abominations who speak in demonic shrieks and otherworldly tongues.

All witches, all skeletons, all jack O Lanterns, gather round your TV set, put on your masks, and watch...watch the magic pumpkin, Watch...The issue with Metroid villains is that they are either too vile or don't have enough characterization to fit the Magnificent Bastard criteria. MB is the only one who made it in because she has enough characterization that isn't too evil.
Raven Beak, Dark Samus, Ridley and Mother Brain are all Complete Monsters and are undone by their arrogance. And SA-X, we can only speculate on what its behavior or personality is given how much is left to the imagination. Though I wouldn't be surprised if SA-X gets an EP for Magnificent Bastard if they haven't already.
Oh, and as for the Galactic Federation rogue fraction, I wouldn't be surprised if it was left out to be saved for another game. The EMMI do showcase what the GF is really capable of and while Dread is the end of the Metroid Myth Arc, they made it clear that Samus will have more adventures in the future.

I think the plot is too scattered to do MB justice.
There are so many things competing for attention in that game and Samus' relations with the twin dragons on her life of Ridley and Adam just overshadow the biz going on with MB. Plus, her entire plot happens in like two conversations. Not to mention the anticlimactic way that her story ultimately ends.

The issue with MB is that she's killed in the very same game that introduces her and you don't actually get to fight her. Had she lived to be a villain in a future game, she might have a chance to be an intriguing villain against Samus.
At least Raven Beak was teased to us in Samus Returns and they made it clear he was heavily involved in Metroid's past, so it never felt like he was wasted in one game.

Really question is why Anthony Higgs is being ignored? The guy is perfect as Samus's ally in the Galactic Federation, especially if there are unsavory scientists who want to exploit the Metroid DNA inside of Samus. Someone needs to be the inside man in the government while Samus deals with more dangerous threats.
Probably because he debuted in Other M.
While Higgs seems to be the one thing about the game everyone seems to like, he still debuted in a very contentious game and that's gonna dampen any potential popularity.
One Strip! One Strip!I mean, the real answer is probably that the Other M design team didn't care to match up with the Metroid Prime designs, but I do like "the feds' army and marine branches have very different aesthetics" as an in-universe justification for an obvious out-of-universe discrepancy.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Say, does anyone else wonder if Space Kook from Scooby Doo(My avatar) was a design inspiration for Dark Samus? I mean they both have that "blue skeletal armored alien" thing going. Just look at Dark Samus unarmored:
Apparently, today is Metroid Dread's one year anniversary. Has it really only been a year? It's felt longer than that. In any case, cheers to the game that was Metroid's grand revival! Samus Returns donated some blood, but we all assumed Metroid Prime 4 was the hero we were waiting for. But Dread fought back from death to become the true hero!
Huh, come to think of it, the cutscene at the end of Raven Beak fight kind of works as a metaphor for the Metroid franchise, huh?
Thinking about Samus' time as a bounty hunter prior to Metroid 1/Zero Mission. She was given that assignment because she was the best, but you start those games without a charge beam, or missiles, or a morph ball, so Samus was pretty hampered during her early days as a bounty hunter. Either that or she did have some more stuff, but she lost access to it somehow, which wouldn't be the first time it happened. Or, actually it would be the first time, but- you know what I mean.
When she was with the Federation military under Adam, what rank did Samus hold? Do we know? Or, failing a specific rank, do we know if she was enlisted personnel, or an officer?

Sounds like a Japanese script Woolseyism, considering Metroid Fusion came out in English first.
It's still jarring that no one in the Federation was going after Samus in Dread considering she was concerned about reprisals, but hey, maybe that faction realized trying to get revenge on Samus was an awful idea.
