Bu...bu...bu...bu...but... it's soo cute!
...
Well, I've only seen... the first episode. I have Sora Wo Nota in my queue. I can watch that.
Lame.
Watch Higurashi.

Requiem ~ September 2010 - October 2011 [Banned 4 Life]Well, I don't really got much to say about Lucky Star, but, Shichi is probably right here.
Although I'm not sure about the "will totally warp your view" bit.

somethingI know, and it's probably the same with Higurashi. Difference is, Higurashi will warp your view in a good way.
Thing is, Hopey is still new to anime, and the sorts of anime you try could affect your preferences for some time after that. I think LuckyStar is too old for Hopey, too.

Requiem ~ September 2010 - October 2011 [Banned 4 Life]My view is harder to warp from simply watching something, probably due to how much time I've spent reading TV Tropes and stuff. Although I don't read the wiki as much as I used to.
I'm not really sure how things affect ones preferences really. I wanted to watch Madoka simply because I was hoping there would be something like it. I wanted to watch Garo because I wanted to try a non-kiddie toku. So yeah, I'm not completely sure how things affect preferences.

somethinglucky star mostly uses Haruhi references
which you havent watched yet
also if you dont have a distinct understanding on seiyuus
you wont get most of the jokes
its an underestimation how that parody series uses all jokes from the anime industry
and how it butchers them into an incoherent boring mess

This level of trolling is reasonable for Commander Obvious. What do you think of this, everyone?![]()

Yeah, it was all over the news late last night.
It's like if you develop Viewer Expectations of other anime based on Lucky Star, you will gravitate towards diabetes-inducing stuff, or possibly just think all anime has crappy humour. Also what Commander says. It's filled with obscure references you won't be able to appreciate.

Requiem ~ September 2010 - October 2011 [Banned 4 Life]@Shichi: The fact that sites like TV Tropes exists means that no-one should expect anime (or any other medium) in general to be a certain way. Seriously, that kind of ignorant expectation is kinda inexcusable for people who use this site a lot.
Also, I guess he won't appreciate the nerdy references, but much of the manga-based stuff doesn't rely on them.

somethingOkay.
So...
To recap:
Watching Lucky Star is futile for me because a) it'd make me want to watch more cutesy stuff. b) I'll have no clue about half the references. c) it'll make me think that all anime is cutesy stuff?
Did I get that right?
@Hope: I don't see why it would make you think that all anime is any kind of stuff, really. You have TV Tropes. You can avoid developing that kind of ignorance.
Again, thinking that all anime is cutesy stuff would be impossible, given the existence of TV Tropes.

somethingMaybe it's because you are wise, young Pho.
Come.
You must journey the path of wisdom and awesominity.
But c) is proven wrong! The fact that you guys keep linking me to the trope pages of every other anime in existence means I know that not all anime is cutesy stuff!
And also, what if I want to watch cutesy stuff? I'm that kinda dude.
