Blargh. I had a late lesson, and then my sister was hogging the computer for her art project. Now it's half past midnight. -_-

Only one I've ever read is XKCD, and I'm not even sure if that qualifies as 'hard science'. I'll let you determine if it does or not.

Please forgive me, but I don't know much about popular culture. Sometimes I wonder if I really fit in here because of that. I do sometimes get upset and feel left out when Hopey calls people here 'pop-culture nerds', when I know I don't qualify by any stretch of the imagination.

(huggles) Collectivist societies aren't strictly sunshine and rainbows, I think... :/ I grew up in one for some time after the divorce, and it wasn't the prettiest of experiences.

[up][up][up][up] I'm not saying that it is. But I feel that perhaps western culture would be improved if we moved as a society slightly in that direction.

I also agree that divorces suck, not only for the people involved, but for their children, if they have any...

It's a question of scale, practicality, human nature and implementation, of which everyone has different ideas on. (Also, you're not the only one who isn't a pop-culture nerd. I consider myself a history geek, and where an otaku would break out an anime reference I'm likely to bring up some historical battle or personality.)

As for webcomics, look up Schlock Mercenary. It's hard sci-fi, set in the far future, and very well-written. The artwork improves significantly over the years, too—compare the current strip with the first one.

I'm showing my mom the Ghost in the Shell tv show. So far she likes it.

But everyone hates mathematics and nobody understands economics, so I feel like I don't really have a whole lot of factual knowledge to draw obscure knowledge from.

I feel like my knowledge is an inch deep and 10 miles wide, and a lot of people are quite the opposite.

Having deep knowledge of things isn't so great. Very easy to drown in it, I find.

I'd disagree with you there, Dark. See if Noaqiyeum is anywhere. He does math, too, and I think you'd enjoy talking to him.

[up][up] I don't know about that. Just more that I have a lot of random knowledge trapped in my brain and the ability to recall it rather quickly (or look it up).

[up] I'm pretty sure I've never interacted with whoever that is.

@Enku: Awesome! I tried to show it to my dad, but he got a bit iffy at the nudity in the first film.

I can't keep up with the current conversation. Could someone please sum up what you're talking about? =/
